About LeAnn and Doug Bair
We completed the casita construction June 2017. It was a husband and wife effort and a lot of work, but there was never a day we didn't say "we built here because we found a spot on this earth we want to be at all the time!" Mountain living is the place to be for us who originally came from North Dakota and Ohio/Michigan/New Mexico. We generally will be at our cabin across the road at 1790 Durfee Circle.
Why LeAnn and Doug Bair chose Westcliffe
We used to love camping in the area, but campsites were consolidated and hard to find, so we bought a piece of land to camp on. One thing led to another, thus the casita VRBO building project!
What makes this Cabin unique
Peaceful outdoor mountain living is rejuvenating and healing. It is great to be off the utility grid solar energy. Always amazes us! Night skies are unbelievably peppered with stars and constellations. A star gazers must! “All men have stars, but they are not the same things for different people. For some, who are travelers, the stars are guides. For others they are no more than little lights in the sky. For others, who are scholars, they are problems... But all these stars are silent. You-You alone will have stars as no one else has them... In one of the stars I shall be living. In one of them I shall be laughing. And so it will be as if all the stars will be laughing when you look at the sky at night. You, only you, will have stars that can laugh! And when your sorrow is comforted (time soothes all sorrows) you will be content that you have known me... You will always be my friend. You will want to laugh with me. And you will sometimes open your window, so, for that pleasure... It will be as if, in place of the stars, I had given you a great number of little bells that knew how to laugh.” Antoine de Saint-Exupéry

Such a magical spot, could not have been more pleased
We could not have been more pleased with our stay. From the beautiful home, to the gorgeous parts of Earth it exposed to us. I’ll never forget how the stars looked from this spot, simply magical. The home was cool, comfortable, and intentional. There are many well thought out outdoor spaces to spend time with family. A real artwork inspiration spot. We encountered many deer in the space right behind the house, and got a visit from a very friendly dog. So thankful for the space to create such wonderful memories. 10/10 would recommend.
Thank you Payton, we are glad you enjoyed your stay at Rancho Arturo.
Refreshing pause from the fast pace of everyday life in the wet mountains
This cabin is in the beautiful surroundings of the wet mountains. This is a dark sky community and the number of stars seen at night is amazing! We saw many shooting stars, the Milky Way, and various constellations. We rented ATVs in Westcliffe, visited the nearby attractions of Angel of Shavanno, Hermit Pass, and Music Pass. There is horseback riding available in the area as well. The cabin was well furnished and was clean, comfortable, and brand new. We loved the dining room table along with the other furnishings and had no access to internet, cable, or cell phone service. This cabin is about enjoying nature, the outdoors and family. I loved the glow in the dark stones LeAnn and Doug have in the rock bed near the stairs and at no time did we feel afraid of animals such as bears or mountain lions. The only animals we encountered were mule dear and one friendly yellow lab. We enjoyed sitting on the rocks on LeAnn and Doug's property at sunset and the sunrise on McKinley mountain was beautiful. We enjoyed making our own meals and barbequing on the porch. We hope to return for a peaceful visit in the near future. Our only regret is we did not spend even more time relaxing on the deck, hiking on the property, and just enjoying the serenity of the cabin.
Thank you, Jimmy and Dawn, for your great review! We are so happy you got out and experienced Southern Colorado! We look forward to seeing you again!
LeAnn and Doug
Doug and LeAnn have a new and delightful casita in a quiet, wild-life filled valley. The layout and arrangements of the home are superb; everything was exactly as described. The kitchen is adequately equipped for meal preparation and with the new propane grill on the porch we ate well!
Westcliffe is about 30 minutes away and provides a good grocery, a couple of good restaurants, and usually some good activities. We were able to make day trips for white-water rafting, horse-back riding, hiking in the Sangre de Christo mountains, and day trips to the Sand Dunes and to Gunnison.
The casita provided us with a quiet and comfortable place to come home to. On clear nights we were treated with unbelievable star-gazing, not to mention the wonder of cool air moving through the pines! We commend Doug and LeAnn on their fine cabin and their personal attention to their guests. Well done--and we will be back!
Thank you for your wonderful review! We are so happy you enjoyed many outdoor activities and the casita fit your needs! Keep us in mind for another trip! LeAnn and Doug
Perfect family get-a-way retreat!
This was a great place for us as a family. Getting "off the grid" was wonderful. Our family planned events during the day and enjoyed coming back to relax in peace. There is horseback riding at Bear Basin Ranch which is located on the way to this property. Westcliffe/Silver Cliff has everything you need, when you come off the mountain. We got our groceries, beverages, gas, cool t-shirts, ice cream and even found great pizza at Tony's Mountain Pizza. A tour of Bishop's Castle was quite eventful and the info from the locals only added to the mystique; not to mention Mr. Bishop himself. We ventured North along CO 69, to US 50 to CO 9 to Guffey Gorge to swim. Quite the adrenaline rush! On our way back, we stopped at The Bull Moose restaurant in Guffey and enjoyed the food and the karaoke entertainment. A trip into Pueblo was rewarded with some graffiti around the city and delicious food at the Shamrock Brewing Co. Once back from the day's adventure, sitting outside talking, relaxing and barbequing was great. Some competitive games of horse shoes was a welcome event compared to using a cell phone or computer. Playing some games at the kitchen table, after all sunlight was gone outside, added another layer of family fun. The trip in to the airport allowed us the opportunity to go to the Denver Botanic Gardens. Beautiful during the day and even better in the evening with all the lights. Topping things off, the owners were so nice and accommodating. I highly recommend a stay here and plan on returning some time in the future.
Thank you, Rhonda! We are so happy you enjoyed Southern Colorado and the casita!
Please do keep us in mind for a return visit!
