1 mile long Makaha Beach is a U-shaped bay with shallow coral reefs on two sides
Scenic and perfect for 2, 3 or 4 guests. Walk out the gate directly onto famous Makaha Surfing Beach. That's right.... this is a beachfront property. Great for honeymoons and family vacations. Our Historic Bungalow is 700 square feet with 2 air-conditioned bedrooms, 1 bathroom, living room and a fully equipped kitchen. Boogie boards, snorkel gear, beach chairs, umbrellas, are all available in the cabana next to the bungalow. Go snorkeling with the sea turtles right off the beach. Do a little Whale Watching from the front yard….migrating season is late December thru March, or just enjoy a good book while swinging in the hammock. Sunsets you ask.....absolutely!
Makaha Beach is truly the hidden jewel of Oahu. You are only 35 miles north-west of Honolulu airport away from all of the crowds. Makaha Beach is famous for surfing dating back to the 50's but there is also great snorkeling and just plain lying on the beach in the sun.
If you are looking for a great location with a beautiful scenic secluded beach, adventure and basic accommodations, this place is for you. Our Mountainside Bungalow has a partial ocean view and shares the front yard, (which overlooks the ocean) along with the beach equipment found in the cabana with our Oceanside Bungalow.
Barbecue on the front lawn and eat under the 100+ year old Hau tree, the perfect place to enjoy those beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. There is a grill outside your bungalow and you will find charcoal and lighter fluid in the cabana.
This is really "local" Hawaii. The Makaha Country Club is 1.5 miles away for golf and there is great deep sea fishing out of the Waianae Harbor 2.5 miles away. There are no bars or restaurants in our neighborhood. The closest 4 star restaurants (rated by google, facebook and trip advisor) are 3 miles down the road. Coquitos Latin Cuisine and Kahumana Organic Farm and Cafe. 30 minutes down the road you will find many more great restaurants.
You will have a relaxing and thoroughly enjoyable time here at The Bungalows. We have two bungalows on our property, we trust that you will respect your fellow guest. The entire property is for everyone to enjoy.

About Lisa and Ken
Makaha is our favorite place in the whole world and we have traveled to many, many places. Until we are able to retire to our lovely beach, we hope that others can enjoy our wonderful community and lifestyle here on Westside Oahu
Lisa and Ken purchased this House in 2003
Why Lisa and Ken chose Mākaha
Beautiful trade wind breezes throughout the day. Mostly dry with occasional rain showers. The best sunsets! A quiet relaxing large beach where you will see some of the locals teaching their kids how to swim and surf.
What makes this House unique
One of the most quiet, relaxing, clean beaches in all of Oahu. Lots of ocean life to enjoy; you can swim with sea turtles and tropical fish, watch the whales as they breach the water during migrating season, and snorkel the coral reef.

Efficient bungalows on a quiet, mostly locals, western O’ahu beach.
When you first arrive you are sorely disappointed at the sight of abandoned cars, buildings and unkempt properties that dot the road. Another review had warned me but I had not warned my traveling partner. If you can get past this, the friendly locals and absence of tourists make this pristine beach and beautiful mountain surroundings worth traveling to! I even had to remind myself why I chose this property. It is a good location for exploring the north (a beautiful drive without traffic), but not convenient for traveling anywhere else. Limited road choices and traffic make choosing an east island side more desirable for touristing. We both agreed we would stay here again and ignore the environs that aren't pleasing because otherwise it probably would change all that we love about it!!! Mahalo, Makaha!!!
Home Away From Home
This was a very lazy holiday for me. The Bungalows were a perfect place to just rest and leave my worries behind. A very short walk to the beach, once there, jump in the ocean, lay in the sun, just chill. Between these two places, I was in heaven.
Watched the sunset and remained till the first stars appeared.
Lisa and Ken are great hosts. Mahalo for the limes and avocados that grow outside your door, the best fruits I have ever had!
I did take one drive; to the North Shore, it was a breathtaking scenic drive with many stops along the way if you choose.
I slept in the king bed, and it was comfy and slept like a baby. My friend slept in the other bed and said it was comfortable as well.
The amenities are all here, the perfect getaway. Just grab your supplies and plan on doing absolutely nothing for your stay. Let the local's beach and scene take you a place that you will not forget. When it came time; I did not want to leave. The stress that was with me when I arrived, soon dissipated in this magical wonderland. I can not wait for my next visit.
Very Nice Property
The property was clean and nice. The view were beautiful. The owners communicated well and were eager to help in anyway
A beautiful beachside retreat.
We were very surprised on arrival, the property is beautiful. It was like a diamond in the rough. Based on the area, we were a bit skeptical about staying there, but once we arrived, we very pleased. The bungalow had lots of room for the four of us (adults) and the beachside location was perfect. The ocean was quite rough when we were there, so we weren't really able to swim, but it was still a nice retreat. Peaceful. Very few other people on the beach near us. We had a rental car, which was necessary since there isnt much to do around Makaha. We were a little disappointed with the extra $50/day charge for having 2 extra adults. We were not expecting this and it was quite a bit more than we wanted to pay.
Yes, this time of year the north swells produce great surfing. The north swells are the highlight of the Hawaii Big Wave Surfing Contests.
Yes, our Bungalows sleep a total of 4. Our rate per night is based on 2 people. We charge $50 per person, per night for the additional 2 guests. By pricing it this way it remains a fair deal to all. Our guests with only 2 in their party certainly do not want to pay for 4.
We also keep our rates the same year round, while other properties charge for high season and holidays.
