Overview

About the property

Estate, 5 Bedrooms, 6 Baths, (Sleeps 14-18)

Located beachfront on Mexico's tranquil Sea of Cortez, Casa Cardonal is an exquisite private estate with a pristine sandy beach, swimmable water, infinity pool, Jacuzzi and extensive outdoor seating and dining areas. Our guests enjoy world-class fishing, kayaking and ATV exploration in and around the casual fishing village of El Cardonal.

This private one acre compound, built in 2005, and is available for rental by the day (4 night minimum), week, or month.

The Casa its 4,000 square feet of dramatically open space provides spectacular views of the water and room for entertaining a crowd. The Casa includes all the modern amenities including satellite TV, a built-in stereo system, wireless internet, and a “state of the art” kitchen with wine coolers, warming drawers, 6-burner gas range, and microwave.

The 2,000 sq. ft. Casita (guest house) offers a full kitchen, living area with fireplace, and two bedrooms with en suite baths, sleeping up to 6 additional guests.

In addition to the estate itself, what sets Casa Cardonal apart is the staff that we have to serve you. Octavio will provide your transportation to and from the airport and offers numerous excursions to anywhere you might want to go in the Baja area. He also offers guided ATV tours that allow you to go much farther than you might on your own, including a trip up the arroyo to see the ancient petroglyphs.

Francesca provides catering services and makes amazing meals including all of the bounty of the sea, delicious steak dinners and, of course, traditional Mexican fare.

Mino is your onsite caretaker and the boat captain for the Casa's 25ft fishing panga. He is at your service to take you fishing, golfing (25 minute boat ride), on an ecotour to the area's best snorkeling or to Isla Cerralvo (a pristine uninhabited island with amazing shells, turtle nests and sandy beaches). Mino is an excellent fisherman. He won the Los Barriles Dorado Fishing Derby in 2005 and helped one of our guests land a 550 pound black marlin in September of 2010. It is one thing to hook a fish like this; it is another to get it into a 25ft panga!

We provide a concierge (Hector and Kathinka) to show you around the place and explain the features of the Casa and the area. Their job is to help you plan your vacation and arrange anything you need. Maria Luisa is your housekeeper and will arrive each day to make the beds, wash the dishes, and do whatever laundry you want done. You will want to stay forever!

Explore the East Cape of Baja and complete your escape to Old Mexico in the casual luxury and idyllic setting of Casa Cardonal where 'Mi casa es su casa!'

Guestbook comments from the manager

A group of friends from high school decided to rent Casa Cardonal for our 10 year reunion. The house was gorgeous as usual and the staff was attentive, friendly, and kept the house clean and dishes washed. We went fishing one day and saw whales, porpoises and rays. Fun was had by all. We enjoyed listening to music on the patio and sipping margaritas and swimming in the pool every afternoon. I would recommend this spot to anyone. I can't wait to go back!

Can't wait to go back!! The property is amazing!

  • 5 of 5

Casa Cardonal is spacious and beautiful. The design of the casa is perfect for a large group with plenty of cozy spaces for playing board games or reading. The casa was bright and very inviting with a large covered patio that looks out onto the pool and Sea of Cortez. The stone and tile work inside and out is incredible. It is a very beautiful setting and made for a relaxing and perfect vacation.

We enjoyed playing shuffleboard, fishing, kayaking, paddle boarding, swimming, and relaxing in the hot tub. They are plenty of activities for all ages and is also a great place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenery. We were very fortunate to be able to watch whales breaching, flying rays as we kayaked, and to have dolphins swim along the side of our fishing boat. This vacation was truly a wonderful experience for our family.

The management company and the support staff were friendly and responsive to our questions and went out of their way to welcome us and to ensure we had everything we needed. Maria and Francesca made excellent meals upon request and taught us how to make homemade tortillas. The food they prepared was delicious!

We enjoyed our stay and can’t wait to go back. We highly recommend Casa Cardonal and plan on returning in the future.

Perfect Escape

  • 5 of 5

Shuttle to and from the Casa went like clockwork, pleasant drive. Weather mostly ideal, one breezy day, but out kayaking alone on glassy calm Sea of Cortez, water a little chilly at first but lovely swimming, clear, and wonderful warm sun after getting out to dry. Pool and jacuzzi particularly wonderful at night, looking at the stars and watching the moon rise out of ocean several evenings while sipping margaritas. Also sunrises with coffee. The senoras brought delicious Mexican breakfasts and dinners most days, and drove the Yukon to Punta Pescadero for burgers one day, with its panoramic views of the sea and coastline. Played ping pong, shuffleboard and games with our kids, saw one or two people on our sandy beach a day. Good shelling too. All in all very relaxing, peaceful trip in a beautiful house and surroundings, a perfect escape from the chaos back home. If you want luxury and privacy, this is the place.

Casa Cardonal: the complete vacation package

  • 5 of 5

Our group ( 4 adult couples) spent 4 glorious, sun-drenched days at Casa Cardonal. For the early risers, the days began with coffee and spectacular sunrises over the warm and calm Sea of Cortez, viewed from the oceanfront outside decks. Walks along miles of coral sand beaches that we had almost completely to ourselves, snorkeling at the nearby reef, swimming in the clear waters in front of the house, watching schools of manta rays and dolphins jumping and cavorting offshore, kayaking, and SUPing whenever the urge struck, lounging by and in the beautiful infinity pool , reading or napping on the spacious covered patio provided each of us with exactly what we wanted during our stay. The main house ( with its 3 bedrooms, 3 1/2 baths) and the separate casita with 2 more bedrooms and 1 bath gave all of us ample space and privacy when desired. A great bonus was that safe and reliable transportation to and from the Los Cabos or La Paz airports was easily arranged by Wolf Management Co for our entire group. Add to that the option of having delicious home cooked meals prepared and delivered to the house for a very reasonable price. All in all, Casa Cardonal is the perfect combination of solitude, relaxation, activities, and creature comforts..... making it a truly complete vacation package.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to post this review. One of my favorite activities is kayaking out into the jumping rays and watching them cavort all around me. March is best month for rays and February is whale month.

Fabulous house, amazing pool

  • 5 of 5

We had the most incredible week at Casa Cardonal. We were 11 people, including a 5 month old baby, two 3 year olds, two other kids under 10 years, and 6 adults. The kids spent the entire week in the pool which is very warm, has a shallow bit at the front and a useful step around the edge - perfect for kids (and adults, we also spent a lot of time in there). We loved the food cooked by Francesca. We ate out a couple of times in the local restaurants, and while it was fun to go out and nice to get a sense of our surroundings, we concluded that the meals by Francesca were the best value, consistently delicious and much less hassle for us than going out with so many kids. She just cooked for the adults - we catered for the children ourselves, which worked well. Despite what it says in one review, we never had much left over for lunch the next day, but perhaps we are just very greedy! The beach is great, we used the paddle boards and Mino took us out for a day on the boat. We went up the beach to a good snorkelling spot and had lunch at the hotel there. Apart from that, we did very little. We were surprised at how little there is going on outside of the compound. The local shops are really very basic and there is nothing touristy to buy unless you go to Los Barilles (which was the last thing we felt like doing). I guess that's the only downside of the property - it is quite isolated. But then this can also be considered an upside too! I hear that other parts of Baja are pretty overrun so if you're looking to be cut off from it all then this is your place. The house was in a good condition. It's not massively modern - things like the music system are a bit aged. But it was very clean, very comfortable, we loved sitting in the sunken eating area having our lunch, or outside in the other eating areas under the stars. The hot tub was great, the table tennis was fun, there are loads of other games including shuffle board which we enjoyed! All in all it was absolutely perfect for our family and we had an unforgettable week. It was great communicating with Mike and the agent that runs the property and deals with the lettings. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review. The shops of Los Barriles are 30 minutes from the Casa and we often visit the lovely town when we resupply groceries mid-week. However, the Casa is so beautiful and comfortable that it is hard to leave to go anywhere. The stereo system is old and new. It has a functioning but older CD player and many CDs at the Casa but most people play their own music on the MP3 jack or Bluetooth connection using their smart phones.

Best vacation I have ever had!

  • 5 of 5

As part of a large family gathering we went to Casa Cardonal. From the first moment when we were picked up at the airport everything was high quality and professional.

The house was incredible, great layout allowing everyone their own space with a bathroom for each of the rooms, in the main house and the Casita. The rooms were all unique and well outfitted, the beds comfortable. But the weather was so great the young men of the family ignored the beds and took blow up mattresses on to the deck under the Palapa and spent the week listening to the waves as they slept.

The view over the infinity pool to the Sea of Cortez was magnificent. From the deck we watched whales, flying rays, fish, dolphins and lots of birds. Weather was great most of the week, with two windy days. For the adventurous among us there were paddle boards, kayaks (imagine my husband and son's thrill to be out and floating among the humpback whales), ATVs, and long sandy beaches to walk. Star gazing from the hot tub at night was marvelous.

The staff at Casa Cardonal were exceptional. Mino the caretaker and boat captain, took excellent care of us and the facilities. Trips out fishing and a ride to a lovely luncheon by boat were so fun. While we didn't catch any fish that day, it wasn't due to any failure on Mino's part. He was great and tried so hard.

We hadn't really decided what we were doing for dinner after the first night, but for convenience we asked Francesca to make dinner the first night and the first morning. One perfect meal, delivered so that all 10 of us we could eat at the large family table on the patio under the Palapa, convinced us that no restaurant would be as good or as relaxing. We did cook ourselves one night in the large and well supplied kitchen, and went to a local restaurant one night, but the rest we left up to Francesca and Maria-Luisa. We had lots of Mexican specials, seafood, chicken, pork, even banana pancakes one morning. We were so well looked after, it was hard to leave.

Hope that we will have the occasion to visit again it was a very special location especially to sit back and enjoy one's family. I would definitely recommend Casa Cardonal to anyone.

Property exceeded our expectations! I would highly recommend staying at the Casa El Cardonal

  • 5 of 5

From the moment we arrived to the day we left, we were very happy with our stay. We had wolf management have a Mexican dinner waiting for our group of 12 upon arrival. The food was amazing and ended up having a few more meals catered after that. Mino the onsite caretaker took great care of us. Attention to detail, but without being overbearing. The property was very clean and well laid out. Kitchen was well stocked with everything you need. Ocean was great for swimming. Chartered a boat one day for fishing. Explored the near by area. Definitely out in the middle of nowhere, but the little town of El Cardonal has all the amenities you need. Small market to grab a few things and a few local restaurants. All very casual and outdoor seating, but wonderful local Mexican cuisine. At one point during our stay we had 16 people staying at the house and didn't feel crowded at all. In summary, if you want a grand estate on the water, relax and enjoy your company. This is a great find!
