About the property

Lupin Cabin - Beautiful one-bedroom cabin just minutes from Yosemite Valley

Yosemite Hilltop Cabins are located within the gates of Yosemite National Park in the tiny community of Foresta. It is hard to believe that such a quiet and peaceful place like this exists just fifteen minutes from the sometimes bustling Yosemite Valley.

NOTE – This listing is for the Lupin Cabin. The listing and availability calendar for the Sage Cabin is also on VRBO/HomeAway under property number 815550. Both cabins are on the same property, have the same floor plan, and are furnished almost identically. We created a separate listing for the Sage Cabin in early February 2016 so reviews for both cabins are on this listing prior to that date.

The cabins are very private. Even though the Sage and Lupin Cabins are located next to each other they are oriented to maintain maximum privacy. Each cabin has 17-foot-tall wood beam ceilings with ceiling fans and lots of windows to take advantage of the beautiful views of the surrounding mountains. When you are at the cabins you can see the top of El Capitan, Yosemite's world famous 3000 ft tall granite cliff.

Each cabin has a master bedroom with a comfy king-size bed and down comforter. They also have a full bath, full kitchen, and reading loft. Each cabin also has its own patio with a high quality Weber gas barbecue

When you arrive at your cabin there will be fresh linens on the bed and clean towels in the bathroom. There will be brand-name shampoo, conditioner, and body wash in the bathroom. You will only need to bring food, clothes, and personal toiletry items.

Fantastic hiking and running trails with wildflowers, waterfalls, and wildlife can be accessed right from the cabins.

Each cabin has a TV/DVD player. The TV has no programming, DVD only. There is a small DVD library to pick from or you can bring your own movies.

The kitchen has all the cookware and dinnerware that you will need to prepare and serve meals. The kitchen also has a microwave oven, toaster, blender, coffee grinder, and coffee maker.

The cabins are heated in the winter by propane heaters that look like wood-burning stoves. Both cabins have air conditioning for your summer comfort.

Some cell phones work at the cabins. Verizon is the best. Each cabin has a land-line telephone for use during your stay.

There is satellite internet provided by HughesNet. There is a cap on the amount of bandwidth that is available. PLEASE DO NOT STREAM MOVIES OR WATCH VIDEOS AS IT WILL IMPACT GUESTS THAT ARRIVE AFTER YOU.

As of November 2014 there is no longer a hot tub at the cabins. It was a tough decision but keeping the hot tub clean and in working order finally became too much.

Current Yosemite road and weather conditions can be found by calling Yosemite National Park at 209-372-0200. Current road conditions in the State of California can be found by calling Caltrans at 800-427-7623.

Grocery Stores/Markets near cabins – Crane Flat Gas Station/Market (8 miles), Yosemite Village Market (13 miles), El Portal Market on Hwy 140 (14 miles).

Awesome little cabin in a great location

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here last year and had such a great time we came back. Still a very comfy cabin in a perfect central Yosemite location. Everything inside is clean and well maintained. Hope to stay again soon!

Home base for Yosemite

  • 5 of 5

Lupin Cabin is cozy and very clean. Ceiling fans help regulate cabin temperature. If you move the coffee table, there is room to lay out a yoga mat; an area rug provides cushioning or can be rolled back. There is a nice little collection of DVDs, and some kids' books, coloring book, & colored pencils (bring your own sharpener!). There are sleeping spaces in the bedroom, the sofa, and the loft. We don't have kids, but the loft, w/ nightlight, tiny tv, & two flip-out futon mattresses, makes a perfect fort for two children (ladders rungs are adult-sized & steep, so maybe 8+-yr-olds?). Sheets are in good shape and pillows are pretty decent. The fluffy towels did *not* smell mildewy, like thick towels often do when hung in small spaces. Soap, shampoo, conditioner, & hairdryer are provided.

Kitchen is functional, w/ a spacious fridge & useful gadgets like tongs, peelers, colander, etc. Nonstick pans are getting scratched up, so if you're driving consider bringing your own. We brought groceries up with us--super-convenient as markets and restaurants are a drive (though who were we kidding? we ate all the pop tarts and packed the broccoli crowns back out with us).

It's easy to drive into the Yosemite Valley as well as the nearby giant sequoia groves, and we also enjoyed a hike to a lovely waterfall starting right from the front door. That said, know that a past fire has destroyed much of the forest in the area surrounding the cabins, so driving in the vibe is less "big trees," more "desolation of Smaug." An interesting landscape, and beautiful, I imagine, in snowfall.

Finally, I'll add that we had a small problem w/ the master bedroom on our first night (we slept in the loft--toasty in Feb!). I wished we'd called Steve right away because we called the next day and he quickly set it right. Very friendly and helpful.

Owner's Response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review! I am glad that you enjoyed your trip to Yosemite. We replaced the Teflon fry pans in both cabins. There have bee several large fires that have burned near where our cabins are. When you are driving the last few miles to the cabin you will see remnants from the Big Meadow Fire that happened in 2009 . It started out as a controlled burn by the Park Service but it got away from them. Fortunately the fire did not burn towards the populated areas of Foresta. When you are at our cabins and look to the east you will see a very large dead tree a few hundred feet away from the cabin. That tree was killed by the A-rock Fire in 1990. That fire burned about 15 cabins in Foresta including one where our cabins are now.

Ok, so part of me wants to say this wasn't amazing, because I want to rent it again if I come back up. But, I have to say, it was probably one of my favorite places I have ever stayed at through this site. We were the perfect distance to have a short drive anywhere in Yosemite to go hiking, the kitchen was the best stocked with cookware I have ever seen, it was very tastefully decorated and just a beautiful setting. Any question was answered immediately and they really did think of any convenience you might need. My boyfriend and I travel quite a bit and were both very impressed by this place. We will be back. Thank you!

Terrific location and cozy!

  • 5 of 5

This place was perfect for our family trip to Yosemite. It is cozy, clean, well appointed and in a great location for visiting Yosemite valley. We were hiking about 20 minutes after leaving the cabin. We cooked almost all our meals there and there was plenty of kitchen amenities for hot nutritious meals. We will definitely rent this cabin again next time!
