About Diane Martin

I have been coming to Yosemite since childhood and dreamed of someday owning a cabin in Wawona. As a native Californian, we visited Yosemite often as a family. My family hiked, rafted, and spent time together in this magnificent wonderland.

Diane Martin purchased this cabin in 2000

Why Diane Martin chose Yosemite Area

We chose this location due to the close proximity to the South Fork of the Merced River. In the Spring, you can hear the river and enjoy the seasonal stream. There are oaks and pines on the property and the location is perfect for relaxing on the deck.

What makes this cabin unique

The peacefulness of this location and the charm of the cabin makes one feel right at home.

Guestbook comments from the manager

Great trip - 6th visit so I guess we are hooked. Went horseback riding, reading, hanging out by the river. Crows, Jays, and Deer.

Thanks.

Little Quaint Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Very Quaint and comfortable. Spent most of our time on the deck. Love the little market. Very convenient. Close to Glacier Point.

Unfortunately there was a lot of smoke from the wild fire. Mostly in the morning. Beyond anyone's control.

Wonderful Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful Place! I have been to so many vacation rentals and this by far has had the most charm. All the different chachkies inside and out side the cabin brought lots of cute charm into this place. The beds were very comfortable. The place was not very giant in space but just enough for us 2 couples and each of us had our own bathrooms. The kitchen was so well stocked and nothing seemed missing. Most of the time in vacation rentals something is always off maybe it's the mixed match number of glasses or table ware but this place had lots of settings all matching and nothing broken. In fact everything in the place was in good condition. The outside grill was immaculately clean so much that we were almost afraid to use it and get it dirty. The back yard had a hammock and a lots of great entertainment space if you wanted to bring the fun outdoors. The parking pad had enough space for at least 3 normal sized cars. We walked around the neighborhood and found a little river a short distance from the cabin, it was a nice little river people were fishing from. Another big plus is that it's not too long and difficult of a drive from the cabin to Yosemite Valley. This place is definitely a great find.

The place was so nice, we had to do it twice. Like most sequels though it didn't go well.

This was our second stay at this Wawona cabin. We had such a great time when we stayed here two years ago that we just had to come again. Unfortunately, the stay was disappointing.

We arrived about an hour and a half after check-in very tired from the travel to find a very warm and completely dirty cabin. The room had not been cleaned after the previous occupants and despite fans being on the cabin temp was about 84 degrees. We contacted Diane who promptly got someone over to clean the room and invited us to have dinner at the Wawona Hotel while the room was being cleaned, on her. When we came back from dinner the room looked clean but when my wife went to take a shower she found an enormous amount of hair from the previous occupant all over the tub. Upon seeing that she went about cleaning everything in the cabin, I am talking about washing sheets and pillowcases, scrubbing the bathrooms and kitchen, and vacuuming floors. The problem when something like that happens is that you then begin to notice everything, like missing or taped up tile in the kitchen and bathroom and the old molded and dirty caulking around the tub. The truth is it was very difficult to get comfortable after that.

We also found the cabin stayed very warm (between 82 and 84 degrees) despite having windows opened, fans going and outside evening temps around 70. The cabin would not cool until the very late/early morning hours. Maybe a window fan in the living room will help mitigate the warm room temps.

Finally, and this issue is out of the control of this cabin's property manager, but the area looked pretty rough. There is a completely burned out cabin two doors from Clouds Rest and downed trees in various stages of being cut up all over the place. I can certainly understand the necessary tree work but with downed trees literally all over the place it looks a bit bad.

On a positive note, staying in the park is always a blast, and we had a wonderful time hiking the many trails in Yosemite. A bit more detail to cleaning and maintenance will make this cabin awesome.

Owner's Response: Darryl, I am so sorry about the negative experience that you had at my cabin. As the property owner, this is very disturbing and the property manager, Diane, will address the housekeeping issue with you directly. Your concens with the trees being down is the result of the impact the Bark Beetle has had on Wawona and the Southern Sierra. PG & E has cut the impacted trees and has contracted to have the trees removed. The homeowners are actively working with PG & E to expedite the removal. There was a house fire a few doors down from us approximately two months ago and that may take time to get resolved with their insurance company. I sincerely hope that we can gain your trust and have you visit us here in Wawona again in the future. Sincerely, Mary May

Splendid location and wonderful hospitality.

  • 5 of 5

We spent four blissful nights in this wonderful cabin. There were six of us, and all of us were comfortable and relaxed throughout our stay.

Getting to the Yosemite Valley was easy each day, and it was wonderful as we left to be able to peel off from the traffic as they continued out of the park.

Inside, the cabin was clean and cozy, and comfortably equipped, and owner Diane made sure we had all we needed.

There's no better recommendation than this: We would definitely book here again.

One tip: When you visit, make sure to visit the river just a short walk away.

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

My wife, daughter and I only stayed for 2 nights in the early part of our fly-drive holiday, but we loved the cabin. It had everything that you could wish for, apart from air-con - but that wasn't really a problem with the ceiling fans providing enough cooling. It was so quiet, and in a convenient place to get into Yosemite Valley, and had we not been moving on, we would have been happy to stay longer. The only negative, was the spider in our bed when we pulled back the covers to get in!! It wasn't too big, and after searching for more wildlife (none found - in-doors anyway), we were able to rest easy. We can thoroughly recommend Clouds Rest. I would just warn anyone thinking of renting here to buy your petrol (gas) outside the Valley as the cost locally was nearly double what we had paid previously. This is obviously nothing to do with Diane of course!!! We loved this place!!
