Overview

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 12)

Our remodeled South Lake Tahoe Chalet is a wonderful retreat for friends and family year around. We are ideally located for all that South Lake Tahoe has to offer. We are just 4.5 miles from the casinos and 3 miles from Heavenly Ski resort.

Views of Tahoe peaks, The Heavenly Ski Resort, and spectacular wildlife can be seen from the open kitchen, living room and the spacious loft. Our large fenced in backyard opens to a 27 hole Frisbee/Disc Golf Course. Adjacent to the Disc Course and a 2 minute walk from our rear gate, is the Bijou Community Park that includes a children's playground, skate park, basketball and volleyball courts. As of 2016 Bijou Community Park is the new home to Bijou Bike Park. This bike park is a City run facility with two pump tracks, a loop trail, a BMX track, and 3 Slopestyle Lines (small, medium and large). Come and enjoy! VHR#002920

Great Place

We enjoyed the stay. Hot tub was a great perk. House was clean and Stuart & Nicole were very friendly.

Great

  • 5 of 5

Cabin was great for the bachelorette weekend! Plenty of room for the 11 ladies we had but only had 2 bathrooms so that was a bit tough. Appreciated the labeled light switches!

Good location, but major issues with cleanliness and convenience

  • 2 of 5

2/5 stars

Over that past several years, we have used VRBO multiple times, and have been generally satisfied customers. Our experience this time was the opposite, summarized below as cleanliness and convenience.

Cleanliness: The house was not clean upon our arrival. I had explained in my email to the owner that both of my grandchildren are allergic. Yet there were cobwebs in several places, and a significant amount of dust and crumbs under the living room carpet. Even though this was a no-shoes home, we did not feel comfortable sitting on the floor. The kitchen cooking pans were worn out and dirty, as were most plates and cutlery. We informed the owner of all of this, she was already aware of the cobwebs. Her husband was pleasant and assured us that a cleaner would be sent, but no remedies were apparent.

Convenience: After we had paid the full amount, the owner informed us and that there was no cable-TV and the only dining table was a folding one that could be temporarily hauled in from the garage, and we then noticed this in fine print on the listing. Given the small living room, we passed on the table and ate dinners around the coffee table. We found that the upper toilet was placed in a small hallway between the two bedrooms, with no privacy, unless both bedroom doors were locked, thus locking people inside. Once “done”, the “aroma” kept the bedrooms closed even longer, to give the fan a chance! The lower bathroom door would not lock from inside, unless the door handle was held in a slant position. The fan was extremely loud, making it unusable when the baby was asleep in the adjacent bedroom. The lower shower leaked a lot, the sliding door was hard to close, and you could feel the individual squeaky springs in the bedroom mattresses. Our party of eight was uncomfortable in the home, though the house was advertised to accommodate twelve adults.

The house was otherwise OK but all of these unexpected issues put a damper on our vacation time together. The house location was pretty good, near a natural area with trails, as well as the community park described in the listing. This home would be better suited for folks who would spend the large majority of their time outside.

Great cabin for families and grandchildren. Neat, clean, and updated. Close to beaches and stores.

  • 3 of 5

This is our second visit with our children and grandchildren. Nicole is very responsive to our needs.

We will probably go again next year ... maybe when it is a little cooler at South Lake Tahoe. We would recommend it to our friends. It looks just like the online photos.

Very nice inside. "Natural" landscaping. Decks are in need of repair.

  • 4 of 5

The house was nice inside. There were a few minor maintenance issues, but sometimes you get that in a rental. The deck needs some repairs. There were a few nails sticking up that we fixed so nobody would hurt themselves. The owners did seem eager to take care of minor problems. Overall, everyone in our family had a great time. It was nice having a house to come back to after activities. Much better than a hotel room. We liked the location too. On the outskirts of town, but close enough to everything.

Great space and access to the Heavenly, but the property is a little neglected

  • 3 of 5

It was easy enough to get to late on a Friday night and the hot tub was already hot! Lot's of great bedrooms, though some rooms were missing a few pieces of their blinds. The backyard wasn't well kept or lit because the outside lights didn't work for us, but we managed to get to the hot tub just fine. A number of lightbulbs were out or missing completely, so lack of lighting was a common theme of our stay. We were confused when the hot tub shut off unexpectedly, but then found the circuit breaker only to later to see the temp slowly drop into the mid 90s by the time we left.

Also, one of the upstairs rooms must be entered through the bathroom, or the backyard deck, which was awkward but manageable and probably mentioned in the house description. All in all, a comfortable place that can hold a 10 people comfortably and made for a great place to crash before an after skiing. I would consider other places with similar capacity if you're going to enjoy summer activities.
