Our visit was perfect for our family gathering! The greatest asset was the nice beach with a gradual walk into the water. It was nice for small children (wearing the life vests WE brought with us) to play beach side. There were plenty of kayaks and floats for all of us to utilize.
Great location on Cayuga lake - quiet and peaceful but also very convenient to Ithaca and local wineries. The lake house complex held 11 of us comfortably and is a great set up for families/groups
My three adult kids, 4 grandkids and friends and myself spent 10 nights and 9 days at this lakefront property. Fishing, jet skiing, splashing in the water, swimming in the lake, inside and outside games, reading on the dock or porch and campfires kept us entertained and thoroughly enjoying a very meaningful vacation!
The property hosted 19 of us very comfortably. It had all the accommodations you could ask for. Host Jordan and his father, Michael, are the nicest people to work with.
Unique property - highly recommend.
The property was well appointed for our group of 19 adults, with an infant (there was a high chair!) There were enough kayaks and paddleboards with life jackets too, for our whole group to boat at once if they wanted! There was AC in all units - it was a very hot week, but we were comfortable. Kitchen was equipped for us to cook for 19 every night. Lots of hiking and waterfalls and other activities near by - grocery store just 10 minutes away. The owners were extremely responsive to our texts about what we needed and help came immediately (a wonderful guy! Sam is a gem.) Everyone was sad to go.
My family (16 adults and teens) stayed for 3 nights at Sandpiper lakehouse. We rented the house, cottage nextdoor and bunk house. There were so many various sleeping spaces that everyone had their own. We really loved the private beach/dock area with kayaks and paddle boards. They just added a water mat to the dock when we arrived which made the kids even happier. The main draw for this rental was the lake access and space for 5 families.
We had a great time on Cayuga Lake. The house was just the right size, and had everything we needed. Kate and Jordan were available and addressed anything we needed during our stay. Be aware there are a lot of stairs to get down to the house, but also a steep driveway that can be used to transport items up an down the hill, having 4-wheel drive was certainly a huge benefit to renting this house, because carrying everything up and down the stairs would have been difficult.

We are so happy you enjoyed your visit to The Spotted Sandpiper! While the stairs do prove an excellent leg workout, we encourage guests to use 4-wheel and all-wheel drive vehicles to drop off their gear and any guests with mobility issues down our boat ramp. We hope you can join us again!
Kate and Jordan were very helpful during our stay. Great place next to the water.
Jordan and Kate offer a friendly and inviting atmosphere. Everything we needed was included in the Lakehouse. The boat lift was a plus. They offered kayaks, firewood and a gazebo centrally located with paper towels, toilet tissue, trash bags drinks, that you could yet as needed. The welcome basket was a wonderful added touch. They gave their immediate attention to any problems we had and answered all of our questions. We had a wonderful time.

Thank you so much for joining us! It was a pleasure to host your family!
Two bedrooms out of five are not livable: no windows, no air at all, very small space. Other three bedrooms are okay. Great deck overlooking the lake. Pier is nice but doesn’t have ladder to get into the water which could be the nice feature to have.

Thank you for taking the time to review the property. The photos in our listings accurately reflect the bedrooms, and we have multiple air conditioners, as well as fans that guests can move around as they prefer. The house is built against a hillside and sits directly on the beach, so installing additional windows in the 2 interior bedrooms would be lovely idea, but regretfully but not suitable in bedrock.
We encourage all of our guests to reach out to us during their stay if they need anything, and are disappointed you did not opt to do this. Additionally, nothing was mentioned when we spoke to you during your stay, or when we saw you upon check out (an hour late). As I mentioned when you arrived (early, which we accommodated), we were always a phone call or text message away. Homeowners on VRBO want their guests to be satisfied, and I would encourage you to be upfront with your host during your next VRBO stay. Whether it's a fillet knife to debone a fish or additional fans, our family does our very best to provide guest satisfaction. Best wishes for a lovely, healthy summer.
We were 13 Cornell alumnae visiting for our 40th reunion. The house is rustic but clean, lots of indoor and outdoor living spaces, comfortable beds, and a well-appointed kitchen. The owners were very responsive to a couple of issues we had. Being right on the lake was fantastic. Too cold for swimming, but kayaking was great. There are lots of stairs leading down to the lake house, but there is a boat ramp for an all-wheel drive car that is helpful for unpacking and packing your belongings. 25 minute drive to Cornell. Overall, a great place to spend a long weekend with friends!
For context, we had a group of 12 stay in the area for a 40th birthday with a trip to Watkins Glen for the NASCAR race.
The property is exactly as described. The house was well situated on the lake with two floors and three bedrooms on each floor. The living area was big on both floors and included all the amenities one needed in the kitchen.
The cabin was great for one family to have to themselves as it had its own bathroom and kitchen and living room.
The grills worked great and allowed us to cook some meals lakeside. The fire pit and chairs were nice to use each night after the sun went down. I didn’t realize they had folding tables and cornhole or I would have saved room in the truck and not brought mine!
Check in was easy, with the owners communicating what to do ahead of time as well as leaving clear instructions for what to do if there was an issue and for checking out. I’d absolute recommend staying here for a big group. There was plenty of room for more than the 12 of us (we only used one bed in the four bed bunkhouse and I assigned queen and full beds to some of the single females).
Importantly…the stairs leading down to the property are extremely sturdy. You may look at them at first and be worried but they were very well constructed. The walkway as a whole was well lit and made going back and forth between the parking spot and the house while unloading upon arrival very easy.
Plenty to do within 30-35 minutes!!!
They were easy to communicate with and check in was a breeze!!Great spot for family reunion and lovely right at the lake!! We enjoyed using the kayaks and canoe on the lake. This place is set up for a group of 18 people nicely. Cleaning is not a virtue at this place. That was our main downfall.
Maybe what to expect with a lake house, but we felt there were some really easy opportunities to freshen things up and make the place seem cleaner, brighter, airier. But, at the same time it fit our needs and the properties were enjoyable for our family.
the host went above and beyond. They were quick to respond to any questions and were even thoughtful enough to bring my family a truck of wood for fires. Yes a truck of wood. Not a bundle. Entire family had a amazing time. Not only do they have kayaks at the house but a short trip down the beech there was plenty of other equipment to borrow as well. Cant say enough nice things about the host and the house. The cleaning staff was amazing as well!! We will be returning next summer. Kudos to host and staff...
This property is a paradise retreat. The owners were extremely attentive to our needs and supplied wood and water endlessly to keep us happy. Highly recommended fir a family gathering!
Really enjoyed the rental could use some minor upgrades , but overall enjoyed our experience. The rooms look smaller in person than online but the hosts were every attentive and quick to respond .Would recommend this to families gathering for the holidays or any festivities!

Not Exactly What We Expected
Great location with nice views of lake.
Concerns: could use some updating and deep cleaning. Multiple concerns were addressed promptly by owner.
Good house for very casual group.
The house is okay-not fancy and could be updated a bit. We had all ages and a big extended family gather here and we had a great time. We rented a pontoon and a speed boat and spent lots of time on the lake. Kate was easy to communicate with and answered all our questions. Lake Cayuga is a great spot!
Overall we really enjoyed our stay. The house is a little older and could use some updating but it is very private and in a great location right on the water. The hosts were very accommodating and the house is well stocked with supplies, yard games, boats, firewood, etc.
Trying to get away from NYC and find lakefront property in august planning a month out was quite challenging... this was a very lucky find for our group.
There is a very nice view and setup around the lake, the house has all of the basic essentials (grills, kayaks, etc...) to have a great weekend. A couple notes for guests though that weren't 100% clear from the description:
-There are three units as part of the property. The main house (5 bedrooms, of which 3 standalone have a king or queen), a bunk house (4 beds), and the honeymoon suite (1 king bed with kitchen). The the house and suite were of pretty good quality, would reserve the bunkhouse for kids or just come with the warning that those sleeping in the bunk house are getting pretty barebones accommodations.
-The AC units throughout the units could have been stronger/newer
-Having the beach is great, but I would bring watershoes. Many of us ended up with small scratches on our feet due to the stones.
-Having a boat come along with the place would have been stellar, all of the rentals in Ithaca were sold out so we had to get our boat from Frontenac harbor (2 hour boat ride there and back to pick up, 50 min drive from house).
Past that, great weekend for large parties trying to have a good time. Would go back again with a large group. Ours was a for a guys weekend worked out great. Communication with hosts very straight forward and willing to answer questions and work with us.
