Gowlland Point Place is an expansive, private setting that provides incomparable views and access to a spectacular marine environment. The main house sits on over 300 feet of low-bank shoreline, with a panoramic view of the San Juan Islands, Mt. Baker and ships en route between the Pacific Ocean and nearby ports. Enjoy the seaside environment and abundant wildlife from a large wrap-around deck, or directly on one of the area’s most desirable beaches. Orca, porpoise, otter, bald eagles and deer are common sights. The view is equally enjoyable during inclement weather from fireside in the sea-view living room. An available guest cottage allows up to eight people to enjoy the property. The three-plus acre property includes a historic orchard and a forested perimeter that provides a reclusive ambiance. Neighboring Brooks Point and Gowlland Point Conservancy Areas add to the property’s natural tranquility.

Lovely place to get away from it all
We were two families of four, with young children. This house and it’s lovely setting were perfect for us. The house feels very homely, full of books and well stocked with linens and everything you could need in the kitchen. The setting is just lovely and we plan to return when possible.
Lovely location. Great beach trails at your front door. Master bedroom very spacious and comfortable , the other bed rooms were small and the double bed not very comfortable.
Cottage was very neat and clean and had everything we needed for our family weekend retreat.
We hope that the preponderance of five star reviews received by our property reflects our responsiveness to guest input and commitment to providing all the comforts guests might desire. The natural wonders of this location and inherent charms of the home do most of the "work," but we take pride in ownership and are dedicated to the best guest experience possible.
We absorb guest feedback to assure that we have the necessary amenities in place and to address any shortcomings. The comment about a "double bed" is difficult to understand, since the home does not contain a double bed. Just queen and twin beds. We renew mattress sets well before industry guidelines suggest in order to assure guest comfort. We assume that terminology was possibly confused, and that the comfort of one of the queen beds is called into question. Since mattress selection is such a personal choice (most of us are really lucky if we make the proper selection in the store and end up with the best match in our homes) and there are so many confusing options, we simply purchase high quality, brand name mattress sets and select a medium firmness level. We hope that approach will provide a sufficient level of comfort for most people. The two queen sets in our house are brand new (delivered summer of 2017) and have memory foam toppers. The toppers are "squishy" at first and conform to your body shape. It could be an undesired feature for some people.
The twin mattresses are rather new as well, and a quality brand. As they are in stacked bunk bed configuration, it's possible some adults might find discomfort in navigating a ladder or with headroom limitations. We hear nothing but positive input from kids using the bunks, and adults in our family have enjoyed restful nights there as well.
Although we've received plenty of favorable input about our bed sets, this guest's comment will cause us to evaluate options, including removal of the memory foam toppers if necessary.
The secondary bedrooms are indeed small, one more so than the other. Perhaps they should be characterized as such in our listing. But throughout more than a dozen years of vacation rentals, this review is the first to suggest bedroom size is any sort of issue. There's room to sleep, walk around, change clothes and store personal affects. We will consider adding a more specific description of bedroom size to our property description.
Thanks for the comments Krista.

Wonderfully private place with open space to relax. We all loved it!
We spent three nights on Pender Island and were surprised about this estates size. It is much bigger than can be seen on the photos. The garden is perfect for kids to play and the beach access is just perfect. Nearby are trails that lead to other beaches and were fun to explore with kids. The house is relatively old but well maintained and offered everything we needed. Also, the owner Richard was very helpful with every questions we had and was quick to answer them. All of us (7) really enjoyed our time there and would definitely come again!
A nice comfortable house with a fabulous view
I don't tend to write a lot of reviews, but our visit was outstanding. The house itself is was very comfortable and clean. The main room had bookshelves with lots of books. We prepared all our meals in the kitchen, which had a very adequate supply of pans and dishes. What was most outstanding was the view from the back porch, which looks out toward the San Juan islands. It was gorgeous. We saw harbor seal, otters, and all kinds of birds, including a bald eagle. It was a fabulous weekend, especially for my 82 year old mother who had flown from Oklahoma to make the trip with us. A great trip!
magical experience at South Pender
Our family spent the Thanksgiving weekend at this wonderful home. We brought three of our grandchildren and they loved the tree house and swing as well as beach walks and apple picking. The house was clean and well stocked with linens, towels and kitchen necessities. The location is amazing and we enjoyed the natural setting, seeing lots of wildlife and open ocean vistas. Our host was very responsive and helpful and we felt very much 'at home' during our stay. Thank you so much for opening your home, we appreciate being able to enjoy this magical place.
Beautiful & private location.
This property is located in a beautiful ocean front location with great views of Mt.Baker, passing ships and marine life. Our family was lucky enough to see a family of deer in the yard, an otter playing in the bay, sea lions, many birds and a pod of Orcas passing by!
The house was clean, cozy and inviting. The front deck is a lovely spot to sip on a drink, smell fresh ocean air and take in the views as you relax.
Communication with Richard was pleasant and easy.
I would definitely recommend this property to anyone looking for natural beauty, privacy and a peaceful retreat on south Pender island.
The property is located at the southernmost point in the Gulf Islands, near the U.S. border. The San Juan Islands and Mt. Baker dominate the panoramic view, which spans from the northeast to the south. Marine, terrestrial and flying wildlife add to the geographic beauty of the islands. Eagles, otter, deer and porpoise are common sights. Orca (Killer Whales) routinely pass near the property. The area is well suited for kayaking, fishing, scuba diving, sailing and sightseeing by boat. Land based activities include biking, golf, tennis and hiking. Numerous parks are located on the Penders, two of which are adjacent to the property. Many interesting and unique shops exist on the islands, as well as numerous art studios and a vineyard. Musical events and performing arts are common in the community. The Pender Islands Community Hall hosts a seasonal Saturday farmers' market and annual Fall Fair, along with wedding parties and other special events.
