Searching for somewhere extra-special for your Durango stay? Want to add some romance to your trip? With our spectacular Needles mountain views and beautifully renovated interior, you'll want to stay in the San Juan mountains forever. In winter and summer walk just 3 minutes to the Purgatory lifts and Purgatory Village. In Spring, summer, and fall open the windows to hear the refreshing murmur of the 30'+ waterfall just 2-3 meters away. We are located directly across from Purgatory Lodge, with unobtructed Needles Mountain views. Stay at the heart of the ski resort, yet feel like you are in your own mountain cabin.

Each item in our homes is hand selected to create a warm and romantic mountain ambiance. Texture, and vibrant earthy colors abound in lovingly chosen wool rugs, amber wood floors, travertine bathrooms, leather sofas, luxurious bedding, canvas art, oversize woven throw pillows, hand forged flatware and more. Recent improvements include all new interior knotty pine doors, and a PB Crystal Dining Chandelier. We also added a romantic wood frame electric fireplace mounted at the foot of the master bed...where you can snuggle right next to huge view windows by the pines.

Our 1275 SF corner East Rim condo also features an upstairs balcony, a downstairs patio, and a Weber stainless gas BBQ for spring, summer and fall. Both the patio and balcony have outdoor wicker seating (our balcony is fully covered, yet winter will be impacted by snow). The patio has a loveseat swing and stackable chairs, and the balcony has Pier 1 counter height dining for 4. There is parking right in fornt of the building for one vehicle, others can go in opne ski parking. For true mountain ambiance, our building is recessed in the cliff, about 16 steps down from the street level. There are no buildings in front of our spectacular views. The entry door is on the ground floor in a covered courtyard of an intimate 8 unit building, along with a ski locker that can hold about 6pr. Our East Rim buildings facades recently recieved a warm exterior make-over, with stack stone corner columns and distressed metal surround. We also make annual home improvements; you can expect our home to look as lovely, or nicer, than our photos. The Needles mountain views from both levels are more beautiful in person than we've been able to capture in pics.

Upstairs Features:

The upstairs is the main living level with the living room, a wood burning fireplace, a full kitchen with granite counter and stainless appliances including a bottom freezer fridge, the dining for 8, and a full bathroom off the entry area. The entry area is tiled for removing boots and shoes, and it's easy to access the beautiful gold travetine bathroom from the entry. Our living area features a full and loveseat leather sofa, and a queen sleeper sofa in front of the magnificent mountain views. A smart TV is above the mantle on the stone fireplace. The dining tabale for 8 is counter height, with new pecan leather dining chairs and the beautiful drum chandelier. The kitchen features a bottom freezer fridge made in the USA by maytag, and cabinets that have all the pots, pans, and accessories you'll need for cooking. There is a standard Keurig available, as well as a Cuisinart drip machine, and a stainless crock pot.

Downstairs Features:

(stairs are standard width with carpet and hand rail) are the bedrooms: 2 private and 1 semi-private bunk area, a patio, and 1 full bathroom. All downstairs floors except the travertine bathroom are beautiful distressed hickory. The small bunk area is at the foot of the stairs, separated by a velvet curtain, and is well appointed for children with a window and a dresser. The bottom bunk is sturdy enough for an adult if needed. A hallway leads to the downstairs full bathroom with travertine walls, wood ceiling and a 2 person Jacuzzi tub, and the 2 private bedrooms at the opposite end of the hallway. The main views bedroom features a full wall of windows leading to the patio, it's just amazing to snuggle to the views. We love to turn the lights off, and enjoy the new electric fireplace at the foot of the tempur-pedic bed. The 2nd queen bedroom has a 2X3' window of views, a Stearns and Foster Luxury mattress, a small walk in closet with cherry organizer, a romantic linen and wood bed, beautiful canvas art, and a small flatscreen TV with Dish Network. Both bedrooms have comfy mattresses, Pottery barn or RL bedding, down pillows and Kirkland Sateen or Fieldcrest Luxury sheets (may have flannel in winter), and ceiling fans. There is a portable wood fireplace style electric heater to supplement the bedroom baseboard heat in case someone tends to be cold, but with our layers of cozy bedding, it's usually not needed.

Children are always welcome! To help out Mom's and Dad's we offer 2 Graco Pack n Plays (Bring your own pack n play sheets), a Cosco folding highchair, a stair gate and Little people toys (great for ages 1-7). Pets are welcome with approval & small nightly fee. For the sake our home space and care, all bodies (adults, children, infants, pets) count towards our maximum occupancy. Our home is most comfy for 4 adults and 4 smaller children, or a goup of 6. In order to offer seasonal savings for smaller families, lowest rates shown are for lower occupancy, progressing to our standard rate as guests are added. The 7th night is Free in the weekly rate during summer and winter seasons.

About Sunshine & Cody Qualls

If you've yet to be completely enamored with Durango; it only takes once! We fell in love with Durango mountain our first visit; and purchased 'Dream Views by the Waterfall' a few months later. The refreshing mountain climate and charming down-town genuinely offer year-round fun for everyone.

Over a decade ago, we left satisfying careers in the US as a high school teacher and commercial builder; to start a custom building business in Costa Rica. We love USA! dearly, even more so after living abroad; yet were drawn by the sense of adventure and lack of traffic jams. We miss the US greatly, and have come to cherish Durango mountain as a gathering place for family, and an escape from Costa Rica's heat. CR's beaches are stunning for vacations, ha ha; yet quite sweltering while out working. The intensity of the tropical heat makes one want to stay immobile on a beach blanket or wet in the ocean; whereas the refreshing mountain climate inspires family activity! Our young daughter reminds us weekly that she wants to go to Durango for horseback riding, hiking, skiing or dance class at Bella's.

Due to living in a rural coastal area with limited amenities; we truly appreciate Durango's down-town area: the arts, great eats, festivals, churches, parks, charming shops, the 'choo choo'! On the mountain we love: horses, rock hopping streams, Stunning hiking vistas, breathtaking lakes, fishing, the scent of the trees, the surprise snow in early May, looking out at the mountains and feeling like time has stopped.

Our hearts are torn between the tropical beauty and responsibility of loyal building employees in Costa Rica; and the many opportunities that Durango offers for raising children. While we dream about moving to Durango in the coming years; we want guests to thoroughly enjoy our home. We have worked to create an ambiance that we hope our guests will also create memories in, and want to call their Durango 'home away from home' each year.

For us, Durango is all about the Mountain Views. The Waterfall next to us took our breath away too. A patio AND a balcony. Almost Ski In Ski Out (and we'd rather be "almost" than to give up mountain views! ). Easy Walk to Main Lifts and Bunny Slope Tunnel. Stroll to morning breakfast in the Plaza, rejuvenate in refreshing mountain temperatures in Summer, feast on views of the Aspen Trees turning Color in Fall! So close to sooooo many lakes and Streams for hiking, drawing and pick-nicks. Perfectly easy to drive down-town as often as we like to enjoy the Historic district and arts. Just as easy to take a family scenic adventure day to Silverton, Ouray and Telluride.

What makes this condo unique

Unobstructed Needles Mountain views, by the Waterfall and Lovingly Upgraded. Built in the early 70's, East Rim condos have an exceptional slope side location on that can not be built in front of, and are one of few resort buildings that feel homey (only 8 units) and have exterior entrances (Hubby takes issue with condo hallways, ha ha). Our building is extra special as it is set into the cliff-side beside the waterfall, and down below the street level. Inside we opted for a mix of amber Bruce distressed hardwood flooring, slate and travertine. In addition to flooring and the kitchen, all lighting, fixtures and design elements were hand picked. We strive to care for our vacation rentals as if they were our full-time home. We hope when guests head home; you'll remember your inside ambiance as much as the fun on the mountain and spectacular views.

The rooms were very accommodating and the condo was better than advertised. We had a beautiful view of the mountains from our balcony. DMR was less than 50 yards from our front door. We could not of asked for better ski conditions, 45 inches of snow fall in 3 days makes for great skiing/boarding. I enjoyed working with the owners. They were honest, we had no problems with the deposit refund, everything was as promised and Sunshine is a very sweet , personable, and caring person. I will definitely be lodging with Sunshine again. I can't wait to visit with my family. Of all the places I have been skiing DMR has the best variety of slopes and is very family friendly. Thanks for the beautiful condo.

So Much to do in beautiful Durango! Outdoor activities abound in every season and our location at Durango Mountain Resort is a perfect base. Winter snow brings skiing, sledding, mogul, cross country and snowboarding opportunities. Spring thaw is great for hiking, picknics, fishing,mountain biking and photography. In summer add white water rafting, Pool time, tennis, horseback riding, rock wall climbing and golf. As the Fall colors burst on the scene enjoy 'Music in the Mountains', cruise the downtown art galleries, explore the old mining towns of Silverton and Ouray, hike the waterfall on the drive up. Year-round ride the Durango-Silverton Railroad, enjoy the heated pool, dine in the vast array of great restaurants in Durango, work out in the fitness center or relax in our 2 person jacuzzi bath with travertine walls. Don't forget about enjoying a steaming cup of coffee on our balcony or patio, watching the sunrise over the mountains from our Master bed, or snuggling by the fireplace

Golf: Just a 15 minute drive south to Golf Course at Tamarron/ Glacier Club

Ski: We are just a 3-5 Minute walk to the main 3 ski lifts. Our Condo is a 1 minute walk to the New purgatory Lodge and the lifts are just behind the lodge. Our Condo's View Side has unobstructed views of the Needles Mountains (pine trees, but no buildings in front of us!) from 2 levels and our entry side has designated parking on Sheol street. We have a ski locker outside in a large covered entry area. Each condo in our building has a separate outdoor entrance, with no hallways to tromp through.

Perfect place to stay during your Durango Vacation

Perfect! Everything was just as presented in photos and in discussions via email with Sunny! The information she provided in her PDF's were very useful while in their home and the Durango area! The condo looks like it right out of a magazine, but yet is comfy for those visiting! I would highly recommend this condo for your trip to Durango. We were here in the summer, but it would love to come back and see this place hopping in the winter! The condo is just steps to the mountain! The actual location is perfect, between Durango and Silverton. We had a fantastic time and if we visit again, we would stay here in a heartbeat!

We loved our stay here! The condo is beautiful, very clean, and Sunshine was so great to work with! She responded quickly to all questions and made sure our stay was the best experience possible! I’d highly recommend this home and would love to come back!

Beautiful and comfortable condo

We greatly enjoyed our stay. The condo is decorated beautifully and had everything we could possibly need. The bed we slept in was extremely comfortable. The linens were comparable to the finest hotel. There was even a thick foam bed for the dog. There were plenty of towels and hot water. The kitchen had every imaginable utensil. The resort itself is lovely and we enjoyed hiking all over the ski resort. We even got to watch the cowboys bring the cattle down from the high country. We couldn't have asked for anything more.

This condo has a wonderful location and is decorated great. So many things to do and the weather was perfect. Owners are so accessible and will get any needs you might have taken care of. Would stay again in a second!!!!

Maximum Occupancy with all guests paid is 7 adults OR 8 guests if 2 are children under age 14. Pet Fee (Dogs Only, Max 2 $15pp/pn) is separate, however pets do count towards occupancy for sake of space.
