SEA & RIVER HOUSE is an attractive welcoming home sitting 150 feet above the ocean and one mile from the Navarro River inlet. We are located 130 miles north of San Francisco and 10 miles south of Mendocino and close to Anderson Valley's many wineries. We have wonderfully useable space in a smaller footprint. Come see us!
To the south of the house is a view of magical Brokeback Cove and beyond to the Point Arena lighthouse which flashes at night. North a mile, where the Navarro River (known for steelhead fishing) meets the ocean, is an extensive sand beach to explore and throw a frisbee or build a driftwood fort. Swimming "holes" ( a favorite of our kids) can be found at several points along the Navarro River in the redwood forest.
The house offers four bedrooms (2 queen beds, one full, 3 twins ), a game room with futon, fireplace and outside chiminea, hot tub, two bathrooms,, and expansive decks on two levels. Up to ten people can be accommodated. It affords wonderful space for people to gather or to separate and find a quiet spot to read. Kids of all ages can congregate in the lower level game room to play foosball, throw darts or watch a movie on the wall mounted large screen TV. Moving outside to the lower level deck, they can soak in the large hot tub, roast marshmallows in the chiminea or sit watching the hypnotic spinning of the copper windmill set in the ocean side yard. Three bedrooms and the game room have cable TV plus a stock of movie dvds At night the star display is amazing for those from light polluted cities.
Living Areas: The interior of the upper level of the house is old growth redwood.. The upper level includes the dining room. living room, kitchen, three bedrooms (one a "bunk room") and full bath. The lower level, reached by a stunning spiral staircase, contains the game room and 4th bedroom and 2nd bathroom. Wifi is available at an extra charge. Most people receive cell phone service.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a new gas stove, new set of pots and pans, a good stock of cooks utensils, and melamine dishes from Crate and Barrel. On the upper deck is a large Weber for outside grilling. The kitchen sink back splash is glass tiled and the view out the kitchen door is of the ocean. Even dish washing gets better.
The living room has two comfortable couches with reading lamps and centers around the wood burning fireplace. A small bench doubles as a coffee table or added seating, There is a small but mighty sound system. A ceiling fan cools the room at the end of warm days
The dining area over looks the cove and seats eight at an oval table. It is also a great spot to play board games. There is additional outdoor dining (except in winter months) for 4 at a wicker resin table set on the upper deck. The lower deck has a 2 person bistro table where you can sip coffee ( that can be brewed in large bathroom next to the bedroom) or wine or have a private dinner for two. Table is stored in winter.
Bedrooms: Every queen or double bed is covered with a featherbed or foam topper and then a beautiful quilt. The upper level master bedroom has a ceiling fan. The lower bedroom boasts a canopy bed and vintage oil seascape paintings. Sliding doors open to the lower deck with large flower planters, hot tub etc. Bookcases in each room offer good reads for all tastes. Games are stocked in the "bunk room."
Grounds: In the back (Hwy. 1 side) of the house is a rough picnic table and view of the mountains. In the front (ocean side) is an expanse of ice plant which blooms in bright colors which is edged by an herb garden for cooks. There is a lot of rosemary but also thyme, sage, and other favorite culinary herbs. Beyond the herb plantings is a gate to the cliff promontory with what Pete calls "lover's bench." Great place for photos. A small shore pine hangs off the cliff. The beach at Navarro River can be reached by walking or driving.

About Peter Anderson
Peter has always loved the ocean since he biked around Jones Beach in New York as a child. We are landlocked Wisconsinites who bought the house in 2007 for our retirement. The purchase confused my Minnesota mother, who said: "What's the matter with a nice lake?" It's not the same. We have never seen a more spectacular place and that includes Norwegian fjords. It is one of the world's truly special places.
Peter Anderson purchased this House in 2007
Why Peter Anderson chose Albion
We have long been in love with the indescribable Mendocino coast, and bought the house for our retirement. But, that's 10 years off, and we're renting it out for vacations until then. The property has privacy but is not remote or hard to reach.
What makes this House unique
Our location, with ocean views to the south, west and north, is truly rare. Guests find the house is attractively decorated and comfortable. It's proximity to Mendocino, which is a timeless community within a historic district, affords boutique shopping and fine dining. Many outdoor activities are available: kayaking, canoeing, horseback riding, biking. and hiking in the redwood forest. And we are an easy drive to Anderson Valley where 30 wineries are located.

Sports & Adventure Activities
One of the most magestic views on the coast. Celebrated Easter and had quality family time playing games, flying kites, exploring coastal towns and breathing in the beauty.
Thank you for opening your cozy home!

View and grounds spectacular
The most beautiful setting with accommodations for our extended family getaway. Stunning and peaceful yet convenient location. We were fortunate to view whales off the deck!
Beautiful and Peaceful
This place was the perfect getaway from the city. The pictures are exactly the view you will see. You can sit on the bench and a few feet over are the cliffs! Literally a few minutes drive away, is a beach we could take our dog to (leash only) and walk on the water where we saw seals drifting in the waves. Everything worked perfectly and the owners were very easy to work with. We read that some people didn't like the drinking water so we brought up our own, no problem for us! We didn't see access to a laundry room if that's a concern for you, we didn't need it for a long weekend. Amazing stay, I can't say enough good things. Thanks again!
Nice Oceanside Retreat
What makes this place special is its location atop the bluffs with the ocean sitting before you as you relax on the deck. Quiet except for the (soothing) crashing waves. All the necessaries are provided. Recommend.
Beautiful location, great stay!
My family had a wonderful 4 night get away at the sea and river house. Great place for the entire family to spread out, even the dog. We watched the whales from the family room while drinking our coffee in the morning and watched the baby birds fly from their nest while relaxing in the Jacuzzi in the evening. The view was spectacular and we loved the lookout point with the bench to sit and enjoy the ocean. The local state parks were wonderful, especially Van Damme State park and the Point Arena lighthouse was an exciting day trip. Overall, a beautiful stay and a truly relaxing vacation.
Amazing Ocean View, Adorable Home
We loved our stay at this adorable home. The view cannot be beat. It was even more spectacular in person than the pictures show. There were 4 adults and 4 children and we had plenty of room. The children loved the game room, the large grass area in the front part of the home, and watching the waves hit the large rocks. The adults loved the amazing view from the balcony and the well stocked kitchen. We had a wonderful time in both the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area and in Point Arena visiting the lighthouse and B Bryan Preserve. The home was right in between both, so it was a perfect location. We enjoyed just being at the home too in the hot tub and running with the children on the grass. The only down side was the water taste as mentioned in another review. No big deal, but make sure you bring lots of water for drinking and making ice and coffee or buy it on your way in at the Albion Market.
Perfect for couples looking for that romantic getaway, families for that unforgettable fun place to visit each year or anglers, Sea & River House is an experience you will not want to miss.
