Comfortable, we'll equipped, lots of amenities.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I, along with our three adult children stayed at the Aloha House for six nights. It was clean and we'll equipped. At the end of a long adventurous day, it was so nice to enjoy the lanai, cook meals and relax together in a very beautiful setting. The access to Manini Beach was so nice. Overall, a wonderful experience. Thanks for offering your home to us. This was a dream visit for our whole family. 💖?

Aloha House perfect for big family

  • 5 of 5

Our visit was the second time our family of 9 have enjoyed the beautiful Aloha House. From my spot in the loft I could see the Pacific out opposite windows. My grandchildren, as well as the rest of us, just loved the quietness and the little Manini Beach setting. We very much appreciated how attentive the Kirwan family was to make everything just right!

Great location and perfect setup for our family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

This place has a great, shady lanai with good views of the hills and a private garden area. You can see a bit of the ocean from the corner of one side of the porch, but you can hear it all day and night, which is great. We walked around the corner to kayak in the bay for some great snorkeling around Captain Cook's monument. Fairly quick access to south Kona and other beach and snorkeling areas. The 4th bedroom/bathroom is separate from the main house, so it is great for a large family or just some separation. We would definitely recommend this home!

Beautiful beach house with excellent location for water sports.

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 9 stayed at this beautiful beach house from Dec 26 - 28th, 2017. We woke up to birds and waves every morning and enjoyed our meals out on the spacious, wrap around lanai. We also enjoyed the lovely fruits from the beautiful garden. Everything tasted so fresh. And the laundry and beach equipment came in very handy for our walk down to the beach. Also conveniently located behind the house was other water sports like kayaking and stand up paddle that the family enjoyed. Of course, with being by the beach, it comes with some insects here and there, but nothing to deter us from enjoying this wonderful property!

Relaxing in paradise

  • 5 of 5

The sound of the nearby surf accompanies relaxing activities on the large deck overlooking a lovely garden. Our party of 5 adults and 2 children had plenty of space for private and group activities. It was a short walk to the beautiful rocky beach where the kids could climb on lava rocks or search in tide pools and adults can watch a great sunset. We appreciated the snorkel equipment and sand toys for the sand beaches we visited, and the outdoor shower and laundry room. There is a well equipped kitchen except for no corkscrew - which we bought and left there. (You’re welcome.) It’s a quiet residential setting, not the bustling condo scene of resorts. Great meals using the grill!

About Beth Kirwan

Beth and Dennis Kirwan, owners. Dennis and I grew up on the Mendocino Coast. I lived in Hawaii in the third grade. We currently live in Mendocino, CA. My father lives in Hawaii and is a coffee and mango farmer on the Big Island.

We also have two dogs, Daisy and Colton and a horse named Rooster!

Beth Kirwan purchased this house in 2002

Why Beth Kirwan chose Captain Cook

When we bought the property, it was all over grown with a rusty old car in the middle of the lot. We designed and built the Aloha House specifically as a vacation rental. We wanted to create a home to share that is comfortable for families to use as if it was their own.

What makes this house unique

The house is situated in a great little neighborhood. It is about a two minute walk to the Pacific Ocean (west of the house) and to Kealakekua Bay (North of the house). The location is a perfect home-base for exploring around the island.

The house is beautiful, with its huge mahogany and glass doors that open up to the large lanai. Yet it is very comfortable. We built and furnished it for durability, so no one has to worry about anything.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are still talking about the great time we had.

The house worked well for our group of 7 adults, 2 kids and a baby. 3 master suites and walking distance to the beach were the selling points. The big table on the lanai was perfect for family meals, as we only ate out once. The kitchen had everything we needed too.

With kids, it was great to have the beach just a couple blocks down. We could go swim & play & get back for lunch without loading up the car. We enjoyed the quiet residential setting as well, and all the little extras the house had topped it all off for a great stay.
