About Beth Kirwan

Beth and Dennis Kirwan, owners. Dennis and I grew up on the Mendocino Coast. I lived in Hawaii in the third grade. We currently live in Mendocino, CA. My father lives in Hawaii and is a coffee and mango farmer on the Big Island.

We have two boys, Casey (21) who is a professional bull rider and lives in Texas and Blake (18), is a senior at Fort Bragg High School living with us.

We also have two dogs, Daisy and Colton and a horse named Rooster!

Beth Kirwan purchased this house in 2002

Why Beth Kirwan chose Honaunau-Napoopoo

When we bought the property, it was all over grown with a rusty old car in the middle of the lot. We designed and built the Aloha House specifically as a vacation rental. We wanted to create a home to share that is comfortable for families to use as if it was their own.

What makes this house unique

The house is situated in a great little neighborhood. It is about a two minute walk to the Pacific Ocean (west of the house) and to Kealakekua Bay (North of the house). The location is a perfect home-base for exploring around the island.

The house is beautiful, with its huge mahogany and glass doors that open up to the large lanai. Yet it is very comfortable. We built and furnished it for durability, so no one has to worry about anything.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are still talking about the great time we had.

The house worked well for our group of 7 adults, 2 kids and a baby. 3 master suites and walking distance to the beach were the selling points. The big table on the lanai was perfect for family meals, as we only ate out once. The kitchen had everything we needed too.

With kids, it was great to have the beach just a couple blocks down. We could go swim & play & get back for lunch without loading up the car. We enjoyed the quiet residential setting as well, and all the little extras the house had topped it all off for a great stay.

Lovely house close to excellent snorkelling

  • 5 of 5

This is very well supplied house in a lovely location, 30 minutes from Kona. During our 10 day stay, the lanai was comfortable, cool place to hang out, eat, play games, and enjoy the shade. The outdoor shower was wonderful for rinsing off people and gear. The downstairs suite would make an excellent separate space if someone in your party wanted extra privacy. While there is no AC, there are ceiling fans and box fans for every room to help when the trades don't blow. Laundry facilities were practical with extensive clotheslines for gear. Lots of welcome geckos, and tropical foliage all around.

The location was great for us because we snorkeled at either Manini Beach or Two Step/Honaunau every morning. The kayak trip across the bay to Captain Cook Monument is great, but be aware that the only reasonable way to go is with a tour company, and there is increased awareness of protecting the local marine mammals.

There really is no view of the water (except from a bathroom window), but viewing the amazing Hawaii sunsets on Manini point is a short walk away. (We preferred to go through the park, it's an easier walk)

While a lot of thought has gone into supplying the house to make it a comfortable for your stay, the house is starting to show a little wear and tear and has no dishwasher.

Wonderful, excellent layout.

  • 5 of 5

This is the most wonderful house, such a good layout. The lanai/balcony area is so good with sofas and dinning area to sit and enjoy in the evenings, or daytime overlooking the tropical garden with birds and butterflies. A very good location for two step beach for snorkelling thoroughly recommended wonderful marine fish. My son was so pleased that he was able to snorkel with dolphins at two step, and turtles. We did go down from 8am till 10am. We walked to the beach round the corner and saw turtles and snorkelled with them amazing. The house is very well equipped with snorkels, flippers, beach towels, and the kitchen is very well provided with dishes and utensils. We would thoroughly recommend this property.

Tropical Garden

  • 4 of 5

What a wonderful place. The variety of foliage around the house is like a tropical garden. So many flowers! The area is charming; macadamia nut farms and enjoyed the coffee farm near by. The park like beach area very near the house was interesting. We looked for a Monk Seal- but they were too shy. The family truly enjoyed the Big Island! Mahalo for a lovely home.

Very spacious.

The close proximity to the monument and Two Step made this perfect for my snorkeling-centric vacation. The rental was very spacious and clean.

Highly recommended.

Aloha House is perfect

  • 5 of 5

Mahalo to you guys for the perfect home for our family! We slept 9 very comfortably and everything we needed was right there. Wonderful quiet neighborhood steps away from the Keaulakoua Bay. Working with the owners we were able to secure the home next door as well so the rest of our group was right next door. The home doesn't have a/c but there are fans in each room and also box fans are also available and we did just fine but for some it might be an issue. Honestly I could go on and on about all the great things offered here. We will be back !
