Kealakekua Bay (which means Pathway to the Gods) has one of the Big Island's most spectacular coral reefs. Because it is a Marine Life Sanctuary, the fish are plentiful and swarm over the well developed reef that slopes from the shores into the ocean. Spinner dolphins, Manta Rays, and Green Sea turtles are commonly seen resting in the Bay. Humpback Whales visit in the winter season from January to March. The reefs make this area an underwater showcase, so come enjoy a swim or snorkel, and dive into some of the worlds most pristine waters, all well within walking distance from the house. Often there is an opportunity to swim with the plentiful spinner dolphins, right in the bay.
Enjoy the peacefulness, beauty, and spirit of old Hawaii when you visit this vacation rental home at Kealakekua Bay. Get away from the crowds and traffic in Kailua-Kona town.

Home away from home
Kay was so sweet! She knew we had our 17 month old daughter and had to get a rental car so that by the time we arrived it would be pretty late so she got a bunch of groceries for us as a surprise so we'd be able to have breakfast. She was also there to let us in and make sure we had what we needed - really above and beyond on the customer service. Her home was exactly what we needed too. (Multiple) fans in every room, ac unit in the larger bedroom and the whole house was very clean - though not baby proof, is family friendly. We had a great time and will be back again! :)
A suitable spot to stay off the beaten track
This was a good location to see and do other things in the surrounding area. It's a bit of drive to get anywhere and a really narrow winding road. We enjoyed the nearby beaches and the bay is full of marine life.
Pros: Price, location, friendly owner and downstairs tenants
Cons: Greeted by the smell of cat feces in the yard upon arrival, dishes were not clean and had to be re-washed
Sweet house in paradise
Nothing fancy but Kona Kay is so accommodating and the location was ideal !!!
I am so glad to meet Stephanie Crowell and her three great friends. Hope they did have a great time in Kona, Hawaii.
I appreciated their bookings.
Spacious, quiet, walking distance close to captain cook bay
Kay’s apartment is spacious, clean and quiet. It’s proximity to the bay is super! Kay was easy to contact with any questions we had.
perfect place to stay at Manini
We spent two weeks here and were very pleased with the proximity to Manini beach, and also how comfortable and well equipped the place was. Kay was particularly attentive to our needs and we thoroughly enjoyed the homemade cakes she gave us! Would definitely stay again.
Perfect location! Perfect vacation!
One block away from the best snorkeling on the Big Island! We stayed at Kay's rental apartment for 4 nights, every morning we could pick the delicious star fruits and tangerines from the garden for breakfast, and then walk tot he Kayak rental place down the street and paddle to Captain Cook's monument for some quiet snorkeling before the big tour groups arrive. Being able to beat the crowd in the morning and enjoy captain cook bay snorkeling was priceless. It gets really crowded there after 10am. Another great snorkeling spot, 2 steps, is only 4 miles away. Kay's rental apartment has everything you need for a comfy vacation stay. Chain grocery stores and Walmart are 25 mins away. Far enough to avoid the traffic (yes, there were congested traffic close to Kona) but very convenient. You will not find a better rental at this price range.
Thank you VRBO that you are able to provide wonderful people to enjoy Hawaiian vacation at a reasonable accomodation. There are no Hotels in this ancient Hawaiian Village , filled with History and the first white man contacts with the Hawaiians.
The ocean is nice for adults and children and this place is zoned conservation so there won't be any development for many years to come. It is as original as one sees as what Hawaii used to be like.
Hope many more will come to truly experience the Aloha found in Hawaii.
4 miles to the Scenic and Popular Place of Refuge (Ancient Hawaiian Historical Sites)
