Mendocino Tranquility Meadows is a historic birder's dream. Originally owned by legendary conservationist Jacques Helfer a renowned author of "99 Birds of the Mendocino Coast" and "The Natural History of Mendocino." And yet less than 2 miles north of the famous town of Mendocino. Numerous beaches, Surfing, kayaking, bird watching, hiking, mountain biking, shopping, wine tasting….. and world class restaurants all minutes away!

Popular attractions Point Cabrillo Lighthouse & Museum, Caspar State Beach, and Russian Gulch State Park with ocean bluff trails & beach, all only a 3 minute drive away.

Azul cottage features 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, full custom kitchen including granite countertops, and handsome gas fireplace stove for a romantic evening. Beautiful wood furniture throughout. Full bathroom with shower/tub. All windows look onto trees and nature. 1 queen bed in each bedroom for a total of 2 queen beds in Azul suitable for 4 total guests. Dwellings are farm chic, quaint and light filled with county rustic feel. Please note, we do not offer a TV. Get ready to relax and unplug!

Set off of Highway one, you can hear some highway noise outside the cottages but you cannot see the road or other houses. We have one security camera on the garage facing the driveway (facing away from the house) for everyone's safety. This place is close to amenities including grocery stores, pharmacies, shops, and medical clinics in both Mendocino (2 miles away) and Fort Bragg (7 miles away) yet it is like staying in a private park.

***Working with the guidelines from the CDC, our cleaning and sanitizing procedures include wiping down all hard surfaces with quality disinfectants. We launder all sheets, linens, and towels in water above 140 degrees. For your arrival, you can be assured these linens in your vacation home have been professionally cleaned and sanitized. In addition, we have a minimum vacancy of 48 hours between guests and provide contact-less check-in for guests and everyone's safety.***

Rustic Serenity

Wondrrful setting w birdsong seranades until dark. Great selection of books, games & helpful notebook w hikes & menus for excellent local restaurants. Don't forget the Coast can be chilly even in summer. Cottage heating had to be handled w the delivery of space heaters.

Great location

Staying on this property for 3 nights gave three 80 year olds great access to 6 State parks. Great cool weather for excellent hiking. The property was exactly as advertised and was equipt with all we needed.

Awesome rental!

My husband and I stayed here with our 7 and 5 year old daughters. The property is amazing - there are tons of trails and ponds that we all loved exploring. It was so fun for our kids to be surrounded by nature and they were in heaven running around on the trails. The cabin itself was comfortable and cozy, and had everything we needed. The location was great - the property is only a couple of miles from downtown Mendocino, and about 15 minutes from Fort Bragg. We only stayed for a weekend, but we would all love to come back for longer next time!

My husband and I came out to meet our new grandson and visit our adult daughter and son in law.

We had a wonderful stay. Being so close to coast, mountains, forests and all things nature made coming home to our rental a breeze. The cabin had everything we needed. Comfortable beds, sofas and beautiful windows allowing natural light. We walked the property and enjoyed the beauty of it as well.

The property itself is nice. The isssue were the beds, uncomfortable and lumpy. Would not stay here agan because of this. We were even thinking of getting a hotel to have a goid nights sleep. Also no TV available.

Azur is a small comfortable cottage in the woods. Nice hiking/walking trails on the property. It is close to state parks and the Point Cabrillo lighthouse. Nicely situated between Mendocino and Fort Bragg.

Paradise in Mendocino

We left 3 weeks ago and we miss it so much.1 week wasn’t enough to explore the property and surrounding area. The home is so cozy and welcoming, while the property is vast and exciting. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay and extend our stay. We hope we treated the home with respect. The home was very clean, which is important for me to be comfortable. One of the beds was a bit loud with each move we made and a pinch too stiff for my liking, but the other perfect. The couches were so comfortable and perfect to snuggle up and read one of the many books that are on the bookshelf, or rest from your hike. We did have Wi-fi, while resting we took our small laptop and were able to stream from Hulu and we took our sound bar to listen to music from Spotify. We didn’t cook too much, since we fell in love with the GoodLife Cafe and delicious food options around. Though, we did bring our own spices and oils to have options. It was so much fun getting to know the different paths. Especially seeing the wildlife, many banana slugs, deer, birds- like hawks, stellar’s blue jays, bats, and chipmunks. I wish I saw owls, but they probably saw me. I’m just learning how to be a birder. You can always go down to Fort Bragg and visit the botanical garden on Wednesdays at 8am to join them on a bird walk. The stars out there are one of the reasons we love Mendocino. The clear view of the Milky Way is mystical and in this location with the bats flying overhead was special.

Woodland Get-Away

Cozy, quiet, comfortable, well-appointed, and spacious accommodation on the edge of woodlands. The house was built by a bird watcher who chronicled all the birds in the area. Staying there made our time in Mendocino seem more anchored in nature and more authentic. The rooms are larger than they appear in the photos. Exceeded expectations.

Rest and tranquility

We had a very pleasant stay at Tranquility Meadows in Azul Cottage. Comfortable furnishings, very clean and well maintained, conveniently located, close to town yet hidden away. We enjoyed exploring the trails on the property and others nearby. Communication with the host was excellent and he made it clear that if we needed anything we should let him know, but we didn't need a thing -- the cottage is well equipped. Would definitely stay here again if we are fortunate enough to return to the area someday!

Wonderful cabin close to Mendocino and Fort Bragg

The Azul cabin is a lovely retreat that still gives you close access to the state parks and local towns with plenty of beaches and trails nearby. Our two complaints about the space are the cleanliness of the cabin and the upkeep of the trails on the property. When we checked in, the cabin looked to be swept clean, but there were some food residue on the kitchen floor that needed a mop and the sofas had obviously not been moved to clean under and behind in some time. I know its a cabin, and expect the spiders or bugs, but there was food debris, dust, and hair. We used the vacuum and cleaning products in the pantry and tidied up when we arrived, and the house felt better afterwards. The on property trails were very overgrown and not easy to follow. The meadow area at the start had waist-high grasses to wade through, not easy with kids. We would have liked to explore more, but didn't feel the tick risk was worth it. We did have plenty of other places to hike in the area, but we did look forward to having them right there which was disappointing. That said, we really did enjoy the cabin, and would absolutely stay here again hoping the trails and cabin are better prepared next time.

Cozy cabin

This was our 2nd year staying at Azul cabin. It's a very comfortable, quiet, convenient place to call home during our time in Mendocino. I hope we'll be able to visit again next year!

Beautiful forest getaway!

A wonderful get away spot

I rented this property for 3 nights and had an amazing experience. The cottage is secluded and very cozy. Moreover, the cottage is centrally located and close to various attractions and amenities including Fort Bragg, downtown Mendocino, and Big River Beach to name a few. The host was attentive and responsible giving detailed instructions for check-in and directions to the residence. I would recommend that any interested renters GPS the site location beforehand as the driveway is off Hwy 1 and can be easy to miss the first time around. Otherwise this is a solid 5 star establishment.

overall good place to stay

Great location! A little difficult to find first time around, but once you knew where it was, you could easily find it. Very close to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Furniture and fixtures were well worn, but definitely usable. Only real issues we had were that there is no range hood for stove, cabinets are very high, so us shorties had to stand on chairs to get to cups and mugs, and not all windows had screens so we couldn't open the windows. Overall, we would most likely stay there again.

Unique Stay for Family

We had a great stay at Azul. Our children had a wonderful time roaming the property and finding creatures. If you want a true getaway in nature, but with the comfort this is the place. They have internet service and so we were still able to connect to the outside world when we wanted to. The property is beautiful and very serene. We made it a point to wander in the morning and found many types of birds, deer, and banana slugs. It is a great location to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. The trails on the property are a bit overgrown, but we didn’t mind. Description of amenities and pictures true to the location. The family loved it!

Peaceful in nature's heaven

We enjoyed our stay at Azul cottage, took advantage of the trails, and visited the ponds. A very peaceful place, check-in and out are easy. Peter's directions to the site are outstanding. It is located centrically as we visited various locations nearby. The only unmet need was there were no filters for our coffee, and the cabinets in the kitchen are very high, so if your height is less than average, it may be a challenge to navigate the cabinets without pulling over a helping chair. Overall a very nice place to rejuvenate. Thank you Peter.

With two young kids, my wife and I found an amazing property that was a private nature sanctuary that had lost it's owner. It had been a bird watching spot named "Tranquility". The property has it all. We fell in love with the ponds, open meadow land, beautiful trees, trails and not to mention wild huckleberries. Each time a friend visits they are blown away by the treasures this property has to offer.

After giving up the office life, and much hard work rebuilding the dwellings we started our family run business to open up the natural beauty to families like you. We hope you will create memories you will never forget, like watching ducks on the pond, playing Frisbee on the grass, and sipping a cup coffee with birds signing in the background.
