Beautiful Home Facing Bolinas Lagoon on 14 Acres

Sleeps7

Space 1,650 sq. ft.
Property type farmhouse
Minimum Stay 2 - 7 nights

Overview

About the property

Chateau / Country House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 7)

The property is relatively private (owner lives in separate, near by unit to care for animals) The 14 acres include woods, pastures with horses. There is ample room to explore right on the grounds. The home is well used, comfortable and ideal for families with children. There are two bedrooms with Queen beds and a back bedroom with bunk beds, a single twin bed and a crib. Every room connects to the outside.

We have decided to rent the guest house on the hill for special occasions. We live there part time and it can house two to four more people for special occasions. This could mean that the place could host up to 11 people at a time---to inquire please deal directly with owner Linda. 415-269-6655.

Due to the special nature and privacy of the property and surrounding hills the place has also been used for retreats, and other special occasions.

We have built a cottage in the woods where children can play creatively and independently---inspired by the book The Last Child in the Woods. This book documents the need for intimate connection to nature and to independent fantasy play for children. The cottage is surrounded by trails leading to an open meadow of five acres. There is also a suspension bridge!

There is a coop with chickens, ducks and rabbits. Young kids can access the coop to collect eggs with parental supervision. Many children spend hours in the chicken coop. There are views of surrounding hills and the Bolinas Lagoon and access to nearby trails in open space and parkland. One mile from the town of Bolinas which has two miles of beachfront and locally caught fish in season, abundant organic produce and Niman meats. The property is also just three miles from the Audubon Canyon Ranch where one can watch seals and all kinds of bird life on Bolinas Lagoon; and 10 miles from Point Reyes Park HQ with its extensive trails, beaches and wildlife.

About linda@summersearch.org

I have lived on this property for over 40 years and it is a nurturing and spiritual place for me--completely private and still. For people who value those two things it is ideal. We also have built a playhouse/cottage in the woods where children can play independently and creatively and there are all kinds of animals on the place. I do not keep up with the calendar--house full time--sorry. House is rented about half the time, used for family part time and also donated for auctions to raise money for non-profits. The best way to inquire about availability is to email me--I am very prompt.

Also for special holidays and for most summer months we hope to rent the house for the week. There might be some flexibility but keep that in mind in your inquiries.

linda@summersearch.org purchased this farmhouse in 1970

Why linda@summersearch.org chose San Francisco Bay Area

When we saw the property we did not hesitate--it was the ideal place to raise a family....as well as have tranquility as an important aspect of our daily lives.

when my grand-kids come their first response is often, "there is nothing to do here." I agree with them and then, within an hour or two they are gone--into the woods enjoying the magical opportunities for creative and independent play that this property offers.

What makes this farmhouse unique

Watching the lagoon for its varied wildlife, gardening, horseback riding, animal care, and sitting in the meadow enjoying a drink at the end of the day while watching the kids roam over the meadow. Often, roasting marshmellows around a fire-pit at night.

Amazing Home

  • 5 of 5

This property is incredible. The views, the animals, the secret playgrounds, plum trees, fire pit, and the fresh air were invigorating. The owners are lovely. We stayed for two weeks and got to immerse ourselves in nature and unplug from work. We've rented dozens of vacation homes and this is by far the best experience. It's not a place to go if you want to stay inside. It's an outdoor playground for kids and adults. We are going back again this summer!

Owner's Response: We are so happy to read this review as Stockton and I have worked hard to provide a multi-dimensional experience for our guests that includes a safe, positive, and in some cases with young children, even life-changing as they learn become comfortable with animals and in tune with nature. A playground it is! And yes we love returning guests! Linda

Stunning Views! Gorgeous House! Majestic Property!

  • 5 of 5

My husband & I rented this Beautiful Bolinas House for my 40th Birthday with our kids and family friends. Once we arrived the property was breathtaking, even better than the pictures. The home owners were so welcoming and friendly. The kids fed the chickens, ducks, rabbits, & horses. They got to explore the children's house that was magical for them in so many ways. Even though it was raining it didn't put a damper on our family fun time! We loved it so much we can't wait to visit the Bolinas House again! Very clean and rooms were a great size! Cool collections of art and decor! The fireplace was perfect to snuggle up to and look at the amazing oak trees thru the floor to ceiling windows! We recommend staying here anytime of year! Thank You Linda & Stockton

Paradise for children AND adults!

  • 5 of 5

We (2 parents, 2 boys ages 7 and 4.5) just spent an incredible long weekend at Linda and Stockton's home. Although it's only about an hour from San Francisco, it felt like we were worlds apart from the city.

First off, Linda and Stockton are the ideal type of hosts. They made us feel entirely welcome but also gave us privacy to spend family time together. They're so warm and down to earth that it would be impossible not to feel comfortable and welcome.

The outdoor space is simply incredible. Direct view of Bolinas lagoon perfect for morning coffee, rolling hills with horses grazing, hammock, tree swings, adirondack chairs overlooking it all for cocktail hour. A patio with a gorgeous garden surrounding it for outdoor dining, firepit for evenings (s'mores!), chicken coop with rabbits as well. The sweetest golden retrievers of all time. And the Sweet Pea Cottage accessible from multiple trails AND a suspension bridge?! The kids were in heaven! And we were in heaven as they entertained themselves and explored outside in a safe, gorgeous, exciting environment. The pictures do NOT do justice to the beauty of the setting--it is truly magical.

The house is also the ideal type of get away house--it's well equipped with every detail you could need in the kitchen, baths, etc., but it feels comfortable and lived in, so it's easy to relax and feel like you're staying in the home of friends or family. The house is much larger than it appears in the pictures, so it would be easy for two families to stay. Three bedrooms total and the "kids'" room has a crib, separate bed, AND a bunk bed with a double bed for the bottom bunk.

Downtown Bolinas is just a few minutes drive, and we only went there on our way home. The beach is also right there, but we never made it because we never wanted to leave! Really...the second night we had planned to go out to dinner but chose to stay and snack because we did not want to leave.

We have traveled a fair amount, and this was, without exaggeration, our favorite family vacation.

Lovely & Magical

  • 5 of 5

Linda and Stockton have created a magical haven for families looking for a fun, relaxing coastal getaway. The home is very comfortable, the property is breathtaking and the experience is unforgettable.

We are a family of four with two children ages 6 and 9. My daughter loves animals and was in heaven with the chickens, rabbits, horses and dogs. My son has sensory processing disorder and has been fearful of dogs and large animals since he was little. He's been working to overcome this fear and I corresponded with Linda prior to booking the home to make sure it would be a good fit. Linda was incredibly sensitive to my son's anxiety with dogs and had great suggestions. She waited for us to get settled before introducing the dogs and they were the sweetest, most gentle dogs. It was very therapeutic and provided an opportunity for my son to feel comfortable and build up confidence around dogs. I found him playing with them by himself and I wouldn't have thought that possible before our trip.

The cottage in the woods, suspension bridge and walking trails around the property were even more charming than you can imagine.

The location of the home is amazing. We love hiking and it's literally minutes away from hiking trails that access Pt. Reyes. We spent most of our time hiking and playing at the beach during the day, or playing with the animals on the property. We will definitely be coming back. The home is much larger than we realized so next time we'll bring another family with kids because it's the perfect place for kids to play (and for grown ups it brings out the kid in you). We'd also like to spend more time in Bolinas which is just down the road from the home.

Linda and Stockton are truly lovely and charming like their home and property. They were welcoming, attentive to our needs, and very kind and considerate hosts. Thank you for a wonderful time! We look forward to our next visit!

Beautiful get away for the whole family

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved this place! We were there on a rainy weekend and still got to enjoy all it had to offer.

First location was great, close to the town of Bolinas. The property is sprawling with beautiful fields, views of the lagoon and lots of trees and fun paths to explore. There are horses and chickens and bunnies and beautiful plants and landscape. A big hit was the cottage which is a child's dream! Fully stocked with toys and mini furniture and just adorable furnishings all around! Our kids just loved running around and playing in the cottage and visiting the animals.

The house was very comfortable and cozy and fully equipped. The fireplace was wonderful and kept us warm and comfortable. The owners were very kind and accommodating. We will definitely look forward to going back to stay there!

Our amazing home away from home

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been staying here for the past three years. Each year we stay longer and longer, and each stay is better and better. The property is absolutely gorgeous. Our boys enjoy the freedom of the space, the animals (bunnies, dogs, horses, chickens, ducks!) and the secret spots in the woods. The wonderful golden retrievers greet us upon arrival and keep the boys company on their explorations. We enjoy the views, the weather and our evening fires. Over the years, we have brought both sets of grandparents with us, as well as many friends. Everyone that has joined us has loved the property as much as we do. We all feel reconnected after our time there. Besides the specialness of the place, the location is great to explore from -- surfing in Bolinas, hiking in Pt Reyes, and many, many local beaches to chose from. We'll be back soon. Our 8-yr-old declared after our last visit that he never wants to go 3 months again without visiting.
