About the host
Hosted by John Skibbee
This property was built in 1966 and has been in our family for the last 30 years. It has seen the generations of our family brought together time and again for laughs, boating, eating (too much), and a ton of swimming over the years. Treasure Island is, and has been, a place of tranquility, peace, fun, and family memories for us. With our children mostly grown we've decided to offer this refuge to others on a very limited basis (Just two weeks a year total).
Being a short hour and twenty minute drive for us from our home in northeastern MA The Lakehouse is so easily accessible that whether it's a quick overnight or being there for weeks at a time we feel recharged as we head back to work as well as reconnected as a family. We trust, and know, that you'll feel the same having spent time here.

Why they chose this property
The Lakehouse sits in a very unique place on Treasure Island. Treasure island is an association of houses built in the mid-1960's that ring the island. Being on the island provides for even more feeling of being far away from anything....even though you are never that. (20 minutes drive to Sanford...a small city where you can buy anything you wish, an hour of back road driving to North Conway, NH and its scenic beauty, a 45 minute back road drive to the beautiful seaside city of Portland, Maine, and a 35 minute drive to the large Atlantic Ocean beaches of Maine). It's a quiet place yet you're not isolated or alone if you choose to walk or run the island path around the perimeter along the water. You may wish to talk to others or not. It's a friendly place yet very much respects everyone's privacy. Our particular house is well buffered from others with substantial privacy provided by the woods. With a nice open area at the water for a front yard there is ample area for evening fires, games to be played, or to just lay in the hammock for an afternoon nap. The Adirondack chairs at the end of the dock are heavily used as it feels as if you're sitting on the water watching the ripples, boaters, and wildlife. The perfect spot for a morning coffee. The island provides for nice kayaking or canoeing close to shore while experiencing the abundant wildlife. There is a perennial pair of nesting eagles on our side of the island that will often fly over or catch fish or train their offspring to fly and fish as you watch. The loon on the lake are abundant and ever-present. Watching them raise their young each year and listening to their cry is a perennial rite.
What makes this property unique
Island living, but very close to the mainland for easy access to whatever you may need. The house is nicely elevated above the water for long views. The updates recently done to the house provide for the best in modern living, comfort, and charm in a rural setting.
