Why Joyce Roquemore Hanly chose Manhattan

We love Harlem and it is so convenient to all the sites in New York. We are only two blocks to the express train to Times Square. It takes less than twenty minutes to get to Times Square. All tourist attractions are convenient and there is lots to do right here in the neighborhood. It is safe, historic and family oriented. The neighbors are wonderful. It is located in the heart of the Mount Morris Park historic district, very quiet and neighborly. People say hello to each other on the street, a unique feature for New York.

What makes this house unique

The bedrooms are very private, quiet and large. Church bells ring on the weekends, birds sing in the garden. The kitchen is state of the art. There is a piano. I offer complimentary coffee, artisanal teas and biscotti.I currently offer a walking tour of Harlem to help you orient to the neighborhood and become familiar with the landmarks and local need to know locations. We also have a private driver with high quality pick ups from airports or driving tours of New York. Price upon request.

Great Place; Great City!

  • 5 of 5

11 church friends from Magnolia Texas came to New York for several days of fun, entertainment and just "getting away" from decision making. We all had an awesome time! The house fit all of our needs. We ate breakfast there; some dinners, but mostly we talked about our day over a glass of wine every night. We would recommend Sylvia's Soul Food that is right around the corner from the flat. It was just yummy beyond words!! One day it rained and we ordered pizza from one of the flyers that was in the house. Bottom line you can get just about anything you want to eat delivered.

All but one person saw the musical Beautiful - the Carol King story and I would recommend this musical. 1 friend was lucky to get to see Hamilton which she said was the best ever. :) Several of us did the 9/11 tour; Grand Central Station tour; and we all did a Speakeasy tour - which was very interesting. Tip: Groupon New York

Getting on the subway was pretty easy and when we did get lost people were so friendly & they helped us get to where we wanted to go. We bought the 7 day pass for the subway because it was still cheaper than buying a 1 day pass; then after our last ride we all gave our subway passes to people before leaving the subway area.

There was enough hot water to go around; enough coffee pots and the beds were very very comfortable. Each person/couple had its own bathroom. The elevator came in handy for several couples getting to their bedrooms. All in all we said we would do it again. Great place! Great City!

Magnificent New York memory!

  • 5 of 5

What a fabulous experience to stay in the restored Harlem Mansion! The house is extraordinary, filled with great art and mementos of an earlier, elegant age. We all felt privileged to stay in Harlem . . . Friendly people, great restaurants, easy transportation and blocks from historical sites like the Apollo Theater. The dining room is the perfect gathering spot for celebrations and lingering conversations.

Great place for a large group to call home and socialize at while visiting the city.

  • 5 of 5

My family of 10 stayed at the Harlem House while we visited NYC for a family members college graduation in May. House was very comfortable and suited us well as it provided plenty of space for all (and had space to spare). Joyce and Stephanie, the owner and assistant were both very accommodating and the house was very much to our liking. It was much more enjoyable for us to stay together as a group than if we had been in hotels. Also the elevator proved to be a huge asset, helping my 86 year old grandmother get easily between floors (although not wheelchair friendly).

The house is very close to the subway, which we took for most of our trips. We also took cabs/Uber/Lyft and were able to get downtown within 30-40 minutes no matter our mode of transport. Soon there will be a Whole Foods opening up 2 blocks away, but there are several markets within a short walk already. And of course lots of restaurants too.

We had several NYC guests visit us at the house throughout the week-long stay, and they all were impressed with the house, how big it was, and how nice it was, often unaware that houses like this existed in NYC/Harlem. So it is a great place to entertain at and impress a group. The pictures don't fully do it justice, so if you are on the fence and reading this review, please take my recommendation that the house is worth it and you will be more than satisfied with your decision to stay there.

Wonderful stay!

  • 5 of 5

This wonderful Harlem home did indeed feel like a mansion and easily housed our family in town for a wedding. Joyce was there to meet us upon our arrival and gave us a thorough tour of the house. The house was nicely furnished and well equipped with everything needed to prepare meals. Towels were plentiful, and the bathroom for each bedroom was much appreciated! Excellent location and close walking distance to shops, stores, and restaurants. Would stay here again in a heartbeat if I were ever in NYC with a family group...wish our stay could have been longer!
