Gary’s Place is not a hotel and not on the beach, no surprises here. High 30th floor with FREE wifi, local calls, and FREE parking!
LOCATION: Located at the intersection of Kuhio and Royal Hawaiian Avenues. This places you at the hub of Waikiki. The beach is a short walk, bus service in front of the building, several convenience stores within ½ block, tourist shopping within 1 block, super market short blocks, International Market Place is 3 short blocks. Walk, ride, or drive you are in the right place.
THE BUILDING: The Royal Kuhio is 38 stories tall and has a number of preferred amenities. Entering the beautiful lobby you will notice the security station and 'keyed' access doors to the elevator lobbies. The 7th floor boasts a number of options. You can simply sun bathe, or avail yourself of the pool, exercise room, saunas, or putting green.
To keep the kids occupied the 7th floor also offers ping pong, billards, paddle tennis, and ½ court basketball. Both charcoal and gas BBQ’s are available. A large covered carpeted open air lanai is available for your enjoyment. Just in case you need to wash a few clothes the 7th floor coin operated laundry has more than 20 washing and drying machines. In building parking is available for a daily fee with unlimited 'in/out'.
THE CONDO: Gary’s place is privately owned and non smoking. It is located on the 30th floor of the building facing the quiet and serene Ala Wai, golf course, and the mountains. The condo is designed to offer the client a wide range of choices. For example, the full kitchen permits you the choice of full meal preparation, light meals, snacks, or just cold drinks.
Temperature comfort: open the lanai door and feel the breeze, or turn on the ceiling fan, or for those that like it simply cold close the door and “crank up” the A/C.
BATHING OPTIONS: The combination tub shower allows you to choose either a soothing “soak” in the tub or a refreshing shower ranging from very cool to steaming hot.
ENTERTAINMENT: A 32" flat screen remote control cable T.V A combination radio/CD player, A combination VHS/DVD player. Or perhaps just the quiet and a good book. Also, for the home video folks the T.V. is capable of viewing your camcorder via cables or “S” plug-in.
SLEEPING OPTIONS: The condo is equipped with a king size bed and a queen sleeper couch.
COMMUNICATIONS EQUIPMENT : FREE high speed internet. WIFI. or ethernet. FREE unlimited local calls. The phone is direct dial long distance and international call capable with credit or phone cards.
THE KITCHEN: Just in case 'eating-in' is your preferred option the kitchen is well stocked with dishes, pots and pans, casserole baking dishes, blender, waffle maker, rice cooker, crock pot, toaster and coffee maker. The fridge is a full sized 18 cubic feet, 4 burner stove with oven and broiler, microwave, and of course a dishwasher.

ANALYSIS: Gary’s place is centrally located; offers many choices, provides vacation value; the building has excellent facilities, is well maintained, and offers 24/7 security.
I hope to hear from you soon concerning a reservation, but if you find another better suited value for your vacation I wish you a wonderful time in Hawaii, a place that I fell in love with many years ago.

I have been coming to Hawaii for a lot of years and seen a lot of changes. Experiencing Hawaii is what it is all about! For example, take the "Owner photo". I was hanging around Sandy Beach enjoying the day and the van in the background pulls up and out pops a gentlemen with his preteen age son. Slider opens and they haul out this leather couch, the one in the photo, and put it on the sand under the palm tree. I asked "whats-up", and the kid says my dad and I found this couch along the road so we thought it would be nice here under the tree. I thought so too! I very much enjoyed sitting on that couch watching "Hawaii happen" all the while enjoying my daily newspaper. This is "experiencing" Hawaii. Whenever I get the urge for grilled garlic shrimp, I mean the big ones, I head up to Titas Grill. Small little take-out cafe with tables across the street from Kahuku High school - up by Polynesian Cultural Center. Really "Ono"! Or, other days, I head up to Dillingham Field to watch the "kite-surfers". I mean they launch right next to you on this little beach. If I'm lucky I can pick up road side Rotisserie Chicken for dinner. Here is the best! I arrive at HNL around 3:00 PM, pick up rental car, drive to condo, change clothes, hop back in car drive to Rainbow Drive-in, pick-up pork cutlet plate (2 scoops rice, 1 scope rice, a lot of sliced pork and brown gravy, biggest diet coke, drive to Kings Beach, sit at picinic bench 50 feet from the beach, all the while watching the people and the sun dip into the Pacific. Yes, my friend Hawaii is all about the experience! Come join me! Gary

Perfect Location - Close walk to EVERYTHING in Waikiki
This is an unbeatable location as a vacation rental in Waikiki. All the tourist spots, shops, beaches, restaurants, everything is within walking distance. The highway is very easy to catch if you have a rental car and the buses (public transportation) stop in front of the building. There is a 24/7 security guard and it is in a great neighborhood. The kitchen is fully equipped. The condo has a good fan and A/C. The views from the Lanai are amazing and we enjoyed our afternoon and morning tea/coffee outside as it was nicely shaded.
Gary was fantastic! He took his time to provide guidance on the must-sees in Oahu and a lot of great tips, especially as first time visitors. We were very highly satisfied. We wish we could have gotten this place on the our last leg of our journey but it was taken – it is clear to see why!

Garys place is excellent has everything you need for your stay the kitchen is very well stocked the bed is very comfortable as is the couch did not need the air conditioner as the condo was always cool with the two fans view from the 30th floor is great if you rent a car their is a parking spot provided...The location is perfect for the beach, restaurants and shops also the bus stop is right in front of the building...I am booking again for next year at is perfect.

Great Location with free parking.
Exactly what we needed. A convenient short walk to just about anywhere in Waikiki and the free parking was great when we rented a car to explore the rest of the island. The building seemed very safe and always has a security guard in the lobby.
Great travelers! What a wonderful experience you must have had! All of Waikiki, shopping, restaurants, AND the ocean all within walking distance. I am gratified the condo, free parking, and safety met or exceeded your expectations. Hope to see you again soon, and again thank you for your business!
Gary's condo had everything we needed including a great parking spot included in the price! That is hard to come by in Hawaii. Boogie boards and cooler were such a nice bonus. Will be back!

Gary's Place Becomes YOUR Place
My wife and I have stayed at Gary's Place twice. This last time we were pleasantly surprised to see the updating and modernizing that Gary had done. It was clean and well stocked, and it truly has all the comforts of home. Plus the lanai on the 30th floor offers a gorgeous view of the Ala Wai canal and golf course and the cascading rows of houses that crawl up the mountainside.
We enjoyed the full kitchen. It's great for reheating the contents of our doggie bags from the previous night's restaurant and for making coffee and our own breakfast that we eat on the lanai while reading the delivered newspaper and enjoying the view below. We appreciated the new bath and beach towels. Gary also provides all sorts of beach gear.
We enjoyed being a few blocks back from the beach and away from the noise and hustle and bustle of the crowds and sidewalk vendors. Just a short walk on Kuhio Ave is Talia's, our favorite place for breakfast, where the waffles are covered with fresh fruit and a drizzle of chocolate and pineapple sauce. We used the bus stop directly in front of the Royal Kuhio to go to the Ala Moana shopping center, but you can also get a bus to the airport from there. On the other side of the street and one block down, we would catch a bus to the famous Leonard's Bakery to get some hot and delicious malasadas.
We found Gary to be readily available and responsive when we had a problem with the TV. I called Gary and he sent a maintenance man up to replace a cord and the problem was solved.
We highly recommend letting Gary's Place becoming Your Place. We will definitely be back.

The airconditioning unit
The air conditioner did not work to cool properly. It was very humid so it made the sleeping very uncomfortable. The unit also was very loud. We contacted the property owner but the issue was not resolved.
Mrs. S. contacted me via e-mail on August 26th, 4 days after arrival, to advise the A/C unit
was not cooling properly. I called her at the condo and suggested a few things to try for the
evening. If these suggestions did not work to contact the on call maintenance folks at the number on her provided contact list. I heard nothing from Mrs. S over the next 4 days, therefore
assuming the problem had been resolved. The day before departure again Mrs. S. complains about the A/C. The on call maintenance folks advised they never received a request from Mrs. S!
Nine days after departure I received the following message from Mrs. S. “Hello Gary
I am due a refund for the security deposit on the condo. I WAS wondering when it will be posted?”
She was NOT REQUIRED to post a security deposit! 1st report 4 days after arrival, then 4 days later another report, never advised maintenance, then a demand for a refund of a non existent security deposit, and finally a revenge rating of 1 star. Was there ever really a problem?
The air conditioning tech found the unit to be operating perfectly.
NOTE: In May of 2017 I had an over sized Friedrich air conditioner installed. It is rated as the most quiet for its size.
I have received 4 and 5 stars for 20 years. This is nothing but
a REVENGE rating.
