October is still a fine time to visit Taos. Warm days, cool nights. Come visit Luna Vista where everything is private yet convenient. Take a hike or walk. Visit the Taos Pueblo, eat at any of the fine restaurants or just relax at Luna Vista, your spacious adobe home. Enjoy the glorious views of Taos Mountain and the Sangre de Cristo Range from the front porch or the hot tub. Or, take in the views from Luna Vista's roomy interior. Sleeping features are a bedroom with a massive king sleigh bed and another with two queens. The sofa pulls out to a queen in the living room as well. The house is built with traditional viga ceilings and tile floors and sports furniture built for comfort, a complete kitchen with enough room for two cooks, original Southwestern art work and a cozy TV nook with recliners off the living room. The banquet-type dining table and openness make for great for entertaining yet the home encourages intimate getaways as well. While in Taos, visit the Taos Pueblo, or any number of shops, restaurants, music venues, museums and art galleries. Enjoy Taos Ski Valley or one of the many colorful towns nearby, then return to the serenity of your accommodations.

About Sally Ooms
I have a career as a print journalist, and wrote a non-fiction book at a casita on the property. The book is called Finding Home: How Americans Prevail. A native of Kansas City, I lived in New Mexico for more than 20 years. I moved to San Francisco, then the California Delta in 2013 after an extensive book tour. I owned and ran an art gallery and store in Isleton, CA, for four years. Now my one and only and I, and dog Jack, are traveling the U.S. in our Winnebago Retro named Smily. More books on the way, I hope, and I have been painting en plain air at some amazing spots on the West Coast. Always miss Taos, of course. But we return fairly often. Manager Madrona is on site to help with any visitor needs.
Sally Ooms purchased this House in 2003
Why Sally Ooms chose El Prado
The mountains and quality of light found in and around Taos have become part of my soul. I love the organic feel of an adobe house. Plus I am a sucker for a view. That's why I chose my particular viewing spot. The sunrises and sunsets always delight. Watching the moon rise from the portal is magic.

Great place to stay!
The house was beautiful with great views over the valley up to the mountains. The king bed was so comfortable that it was hard to get up and moving. The house is very well equipped with anything you might need. Check in was a breeze and we would 100% stay here again!!
Great Quiet Place
Really nice, spacious home - the kitchen was nicely stocked, even found coffee and tea. Nice quiet place out in the country, but still close to Taos. As was someone else mentioned the bathrooms could have brighter lights and better mirrors. Thank you for your kind welcome when we arrived. We really enjoyed our stay and the surrounding area.
Felt like home
This beautiful home is well represented in the photos except that it was more roomy than I visualized. The personal effects made one feel at home. There were visiting dogs from the neighborhood that kindly asked for treats and we loved their welcome. The caretaker made sure we were up to speed and then left us to enjoy our stay. We would love to stay at this location again, it's an amazing Taos style home which has easy access to the area. It's not a new home but it's character is lovely and inviting and comfortable. Extremely comfortable. Love having the hot tub to end the eve and start the day.
Thank you for your kind review and for sharing your feelings about the place we find special as well.
Come back soon.
We absolutely loved our stay in El Prado. Clean, beautiful, responsive owner/caretaker. More awesome than even the pictures described.
Only improvement we would suggest; better lighting and a full-length mirror. We were there for my son’s wedding and couldn’t find proper lighting for doing make-up, testing, etc. Nor a full-length mirror to check our camera-ready looks! But these were very specific needs and we worked around it. Check out was a little early after a late wedding night. Would have loved an extra hour. Otherwise, it was fabulous! Thank you for everything!
So happy that you spent a good time at Luna Vista during your special wedding time. I'm so sorry that you didn't find the full-length mirror in the cedar closet in the master bedroom. I'm quite sure it is still there. Unless I am dreaming. But the other bedroom definitely needs one. I have a good friend who came to visit who complained about that years ago! It shall be remedied. Thanks for the tip-off.
As far as the issue of check-out, that is at the request of the cleaning people. But, we can review the time with them. And, I hope people will always ask for more time if they need it. Thanks for being flexible. Come back soon.
Beautiful view and comfortable home
This was our second stay at Luna Vista over the past 2 years. The view is spectacular and this home has everything we need. We love the traditional New Mexico design and decor. It is located a short drive out of town in a very quiet neighborhood, but still convenient to Taos. Some places we recommend for dining are: Orlando's, El Taoseno, Farmhouse Cafe, and Michael's. We keep coming back for the friendly locals, New Mexican cuisine, and the breathtaking landscapes. Luna Vista is definitely on our list of favorite VRBOs.
Beautiful and spacious but needs updating
My friends and I loved the spacious house, but the bathrooms need some updating. You can't flush the toilet if someone is in the shower or you'll get scalding water. The toilet in the two bed bedroom leaked as did the hot tub. The housecleaner could do a better job. Cobwebs in the corners of the house and windows need to be cleaned to maximize the view. Also, an exterminator is needed for the ants around the patio. Having said that, we all said we would probably stay there again as having two bedrooms with three beds and the views are what drew us in the first place.
Two Hour Drive from Albuquerque Airport, 15 Min. from Taos) The ski valley for winter fun is 25 minutes away (Taos Ski Valley) and there are others in the area. The house is a nice base in the summer for people who want to hike, raft, walk, enjoy Taos Pueblo or excellent small museums and great restaurants.
Pets are welcome. When you arrive, you will be asked to give my managers a check for $50 per pet as a refundable deposit. The check is then torn up after the maid checks the home. Usually no problem. There is no fenced yard. Pets must be walked and taken with you when you go out or kenneled. I have a kennel if you don't want to travel with one.
