About Sally Ooms
I have a career as a print journalist, and wrote a non-fiction book at a casita on the property. The book is called Finding Home: How Americans Prevail. A native of Kansas City, I lived in New Mexico for more than 20 years. I moved to San Francisco, then the California Delta in 2013 after an extensive book tour. I owned and ran an art gallery and store in Isleton, CA, for four years. Now my one and only and I, and dog Jack, are traveling the U.S. in our Winnebago Retro named Smily. More books on the way, I hope, and I have been painting en plain air at some amazing spots on the West Coast. Always miss Taos, of course. But we return fairly often. Manager Madrona is on site to help with any visitor needs.
Sally Ooms purchased this House in 2003
Why Sally Ooms chose El Prado
The mountains and quality of light found in and around Taos have become part of my soul. I love the organic feel of an adobe house. Plus I am a sucker for a view. That's why I chose my particular viewing spot. The sunrises and sunsets always delight. Watching the moon rise from the portal is magic.

Mountains truly are in your face
This is a beautiful home with a lot of space to enjoy the views and watch the sky change colors. The sweet details are true to NM, and make you feel warm and welcome. We visited with our two small children, and there was plenty of space for them to play while we cooked or watched the sunset/rise. We are regular visitors of Taos and will look to stay here again.
Thanks so much for your comments. I'm so glad you had what sounds like a good, relaxing time. Glad the children enjoyed it too. Come back soon.
Very pleased, quiet and peaceful. Accommodations were very nice.
Wonderful and relaxing stay!
We had a great time at this property. After a very long day of travel from Chicago-to-Denver-Philmont Scout Ranch to pick up our son and then finally to Taos, it was a nice surprise to walk into such a great house. There was plenty of room for all 5 of us. It was great to have a kitchen to cook and plenty of room to relax. We enjoyed the hot tub every evening. New Mexico weather was beautiful even though it was the end of July. The cool evenings were just perfect. We would definitely return to this property. Thank you for sharing your home with us.
Luna Vista is a dream of a southwestern-style home. Beautifully decorated with attention to detail. Very comfortable beds, abundantly suppled linens. Great mountain views. An ideal location for exploring northern New Mexico. We did it all!! rafting on the Rio Grande, enchanted circle drive, chair lift ride in Red River, the steam train ride out of Chama, pueblos, D. H. Lawrence ranch, Georgia O'Keefe's Ghost Ranch, etc, etc. Wonderful restaurants and shops in Taos. This was a perfect vacation. Thank you, Sally!!!
Lovely Home close to everything.
We attended a music festival in El Prado and were pleased to find a nice place to stay at after the music ended. Close to Taos and the mountains. Home had everything we need and more. Nice decor and comfortable furnishings. We would stay here again!
The Best of Taos
My friend and I rented "Mountains in Your Face" for a long girls' weekend. I had stayed there a number of years ago with my husband and a friend, and had always wanted to return. I was not disappointed. It was just as wonderful as I had remembered it to be! The views were stunning and the house was oriented in a way that you could enjoy the scenery from inside and out. The kitchen was so well-appointed that making a meal at home was almost more pleasurable than going out. Sitting by the fire in the evening was so relaxing. There was an abundant supply of firewood as well as fire starter sticks and paper so making the fire was a cinch. The house was tastefully decorated in southwestern style. There were many delightful books to choose from as well as dvds and cds. The beds were comfortable and thick towels were provided for the bath and hot tub. It is close enough to Taos to enjoy all of its delights yet far enough out, to appreciate the splendor of the countryside. I hope to return again in the near future.
Thank you so much for your review. I'm glad you found the house to be as you remembered it and that it was an enjoyable time. Hope to see you again soon.
Two Hour Drive from Albuquerque Airport, 15 Min. from Taos) The ski valley for winter fun is 25 minutes away (Taos Ski Valley) and there are others in the area. The house is a nice base in the summer for people who want to hike, raft, walk, enjoy Taos Pueblo or excellent small museums and great restaurants.
Additional information about rental rates
Pets are welcome. When you arrive, you will be asked to give my managers a check for $50 per pet as a refundable deposit. The check is then torn up after the maid checks the home. Usually no problem. There is no fenced yard. Pets must be walked and taken with you when you go out or kenneled. I have a kennel if you don't want to travel with one.
