About The Owner

I first came to the San Juan Mountains 13 years ago, lured by the promise of legendary powder skiing, endless miles of sweet singletrack, and a college education. I settled in Durango and was not disappointed. I still live in Durango with my wolf-shepherd mix Skyler and kayak, bike, ski, and hike in the mountains all the time. I spent the last two and a half years personally renovating this historic Victorian house into the perfect pad for adventures in the mountains or just hanging out with a bunch of friends. Many good times have been had there already and many more to come!

The Owner purchased this house in 2006

Why The Owner chose Southwest

After skiing, biking, and hiking in the mountains around Silverton for years, I decided I needed my own base camp in Silverton even though I only live an hour away in Durango. Silverton is a peaceful mountain burg and the ultimate adventure playground, with soaring peaks, raging rivers, and unbelievable vistas from almost anywhere in town. Little has changed since Silverton was a mining boom town 100 years ago—most of the quaint Victorian houses and shops still line the wide unpaved streets. Silverton still has the feel of the Wild West of yesteryear but with a modern-day adventurous social atmosphere.

What makes this house unique

Backcountry and Nordic skiing right out the front door, while a mere block's walk to restaurants, bars, and shops!

Great Place to Wind Down After Submitting Your Body to Silverton Skiing

  • 5 of 5

Booking and check-in were easy. The beds were comfy, but the sheets and bedding could have been nicer. Kitchen was well appointed with the necessary hardware and appliances. Lots of room in this place, but only one bathroom. It's a big bathroom though. There were only two of us so it was not an issue. The grill was tricky. It may have just been real dirty, but the heat was not uniform. I host a five-star Airbnb so I'm a bit picky. Overall this is a great place and I hope to stay there again. There are lots of hooks to hang up your ski clothes. The tuning bench is a plus (there was even an iron!). We had to shovel the end of the walkway when we got there because the plow did it's thing, but the shovels are hung up on the front porch. Walking distance to everything in town. Incredible views wherever you look.

Excellent house in the perfect location

  • 5 of 5

After a challenging trip getting to Silverton, we were all ready to sit down and drink a beer and this house couldn't have been more inviting! We walked in to a warm wood stove and a freshly shoveled walk. The property was perfect for 4 guys doing a Snowmobile specific avalanche training class as we all had our own rooms and were able to dry our equipment by the fire each night. Easy access to Kendall Mountain for the class and then access to ride in the forest service area up from the base of Kendall where we did training. Each day we had time for dinner and lunch and due to the location we could get a quick bite to eat and then right back to class. I would recommend this house for anyone in the winter who skis Silverton or does classes at the Silverton Avalanche school. Well stocked with every item we needed, very comfortable, and very clean. The owner, Andrew, was great to communicate with for any questions. I'll definitely stay here again.

Awesome Place with even better Service!

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for a nice retreat from your everyday system, this is an excellent choice!

Other than the towns folk being a little unfriendly, this place is awesome.

If you're a Jeeper with Dogs it's a no brainer considering all the trails that are within 20 min of this house.

Andrew provides excellent service by answering calls or returning them within 30 min. Even letting us know where the best trails are and things to be careful of.

Owner's Response: Thank you for the great review. I'm a little surprised to hear about the unfriendly locals as folks are typically very nice. Maybe you just ran into a few who were grumpy and burnt out at the need of the season, oh well.

Great time. Great location.

We come to Colorado every year to ride atv's in the mountains. This house is in a perfect location, you can ride your atv from the house on the street too the Alpine loop, legally. The house appears small from the outside but when you get inside it seems much larger. The owner has updated the house nicely, everything inside is modern and clean. There is only one bathroom but we had no problems sharing and we had plenty of hot water. There is a wood burning stove with plenty of fire wood that is easy to use and puts out a lot of heat, and it also has other heaters but we never used them because the wood stove worked so well. We had a great time here and I have already recommended it to several other friends.
