The water can be heard from all rooms.
Some of St. John's best snorkeling in the bay below(3 min walk)
A great place to relax, be inspired, and recharge.
The Perch is the upper unit of the Kiddel Bay Beach House.
Our family was drawn to St. John and Kiddel Bay because of our strong interest in special and spectacular natural areas. The island's laid back character, unique National Park and commitment to preserving its natural resources make St. John a rare jewel in the Caribbean.
James M Miller purchased this house in 2005
We looked throughout the Caribbean and bought this house right above Kiddel Bay because of its location, surrounded by National Park, and because of the fabulous view!
The Perch is located on south shore of St. John, known for its quiet ambience and unique natural and cultural experiences.
The house is a short walk to Kiddel Bay where you will find a secluded beach and some of the best snorkeling on the island. Salt Pond Bay and Lameshur Bay are each within a 10 minute drive as is VIERS, an environmental education and research facility with a fascinating history documented in its small museum.
Great restaurants and a variety of live entertainment await you in the Coral Bay area.
You can snorkel and swim in your back yard during the day, enjoy a fabulous meal and live music at any of the iconic Coral Bay bistros in the evening and truly relax as you watch the shooting stars from the quiet privacy of your deck above Kiddel Bay.
My husband and I have previously stayed on St John, but this was our first stay on Kiddel Bay.
The view from the home is stunning and it is just a minute walk down the path to great snorkeling on Kiddel Bay.
The home had everything we needed. I love to cook all meals and the kitchen made it a breeze.
Evening time was spent outside enjoying the sound of the ocean and the stars above. There was plenty of furniture to take advantage of the expansive deck.
Some people might find the drive to the home trying, however, we always rent a Jeep and don't mind it at all.
You will not be disappointed staying in this beautiful home.
Located near Salt Pond, Kiddle Perch is isolated from the tourist bustle in Cruz Bay and close to some lovely beaches, great restaurants and interesting hikes. I have previously stayed closer to Cruz Bay and was initially dubious about being on this side of the island, but really enjoyed it. Great snorkeling at Kiddle, Europa and Great Lamishur Bay. Salt Pond Bay and Little Lameshur are nice, sandy beaches, great for families with small children. There are some excellent restaurants in the area and live music to enjoy as well. Check out open mic at Concordia and Jazz Brunch on the beach at Miss Lucy's. Nearby hikes include Ram Head and out to the Petroglyphs and sugar ruins. Keep an ear and eye out for the Black Parrots who live in the area, and a watchful eye for land tortoise and many, many hermit crabs! The property caretaker lives downstairs and is very helpful and quiet-we hardly knew he was there. The house is comfortable, private and well-equipped-plenty of towels and comfortable linens, pots/pans/dishes, etc. The fantastic views from the deck make this a magical place to stay-but are best enjoyed early sunrise and sunset, as it gets very hot out there during the day. Plenty of sliding screen doors and ceiling fans kept us cool inside the house night and day. We hope to return some day!
We spent 9 relaxing days at Kiddel perch. The house was clean and we enjoyed a nice breeze all vacation long. Definitely rent a jeep to get out here but then again you would be best with a jeep for exploring the whole island anyways. It is a 10 or so minute drive to Kalabash market and Coral Bay. There is a nice spot for lunch and delicious drinks 5 minutes away. As for the snorkeling, we found Kiddel Bay to be one of the best spots on the island. We saw sea turtles, squid, colorful fish and coral. Another 5 - 10 minutes down the road is beautiful Lameshur Bay and great hiking trails. I would definitely recommend anyone to stay here. The deck is perfect for evening relaxing (there is a grill) and morning coffee. Wifi worked well, there was a large clean shower, and a comfortable bed to look out at the Caribbean Sea. The skyscape at night is unbelievable. Do not hesitate to stay here!! We will be back. Definitely a gem!!!!
We enjoyed a wonderful week at the Perch. The accommodations were casual and very comfortable--just what we were looking for. The cottage is very private, with direct access to the stone beach at Kiddel Bay, which has great snorkeling. It is a few minutes' drive to sandy beaches, hiking trails and wonderful restaurants. There is a beautiful view of Kiddel Bay and the Caribbean Sea from every room, a continuous gentle breeze, and brilliant stars at night. We loved the deck from breakfast in the early morning light to stargazing late at night. It exceeded our expectations and we can't wait to return.
Yes, it is off the beaten path and it is on the Southeast side of the island which is about a 40 minute drive from the Cruz Bay ferry port. The immediate road leading to Kiddel Perch is rocky, so make sure you rent a jeep, but it is absolutely beautiful and worth the drive.
The unit was clean, extremely spacious, the wrap around deck had amazing views, we saw shooting stars at night and clear waters in the day, and it is close to the best eats on the island (miss lucy's for breakfast and johnny cakes, tourist trap for lobster roll, skinny legs for burgers), about 10 minute drive to Calabash Market for groceries, and about a 2 minute drive to the Saltpond Beach. If you are looking for hotel amenities, this is not the place. There is no A/C but we went in the dead of summer and there was always a nice breeze that kept the place cool along with the ceiling fans in every room. Heat was really not an issue.
Communicating with the property manager was extremely easy and hassle-free. They provided all the necessary contact information (which we never had to use during our stay as we had no issues) as well as clear driving directions to Kiddel Perch.
The drive into Cruz Bay and beaches along the north shore were an easy drive, but we always looked forward to coming back to Kiddel Perch for true island rest and relaxation. We would definitely stay at Kiddel Perch again.
We were happily surprised by this house. It was a lot bigger than we thought. Fantastic balcony overlooking kiddel bay, nice furniture, nice decorationvery clean, a huge american kitchen and hot shower. It had everything for a great stay.
Would we book the house again? No. Unfortunately. It was to remote for us. At night there is nobody in the surroundings and we found that a bit scary. Because of that we couldnt open the windows at night and there is no airco.
Internet wasnt working. The manager didnt do anything to help. Just emailed that it should work (we used internet at Concordia). He promised to come around during out stay, but we never saw him.
Tips for the owner: a better lock on the front door, a lock that works on the master bedroom, umbrellas at the terrace and advice people to use the other road to the house (not the one in your description).
Very private and surrounded by National Park. Great snorkeling in the bay below the house.
