The Evon family lives in a the Denver suburb of Lakewood. We love the outdoors and are busy with the typical family stuff: sports, school, work, friends and church. We love to spend time at our condo in Grand Lake when it's not being enjoyed by our guests.
Tom Evon purchased this condo in 2001
Years ago, my wife and I lived in Summit County Colorado near Keystone and Breckenridge. Our friends told us they were going to a weekend in Grand Lake. They told us about the area and it sounded very awesome even though we were already living in a great mountain area. We checked it out and fell in love. I already loved the Colorado mountains, but being from Minnesota originally - when I saw the chain of three lakes, I knew I had found the ultimate. We started staying at various places around Grand Lake. We were attracted to Soda Springs Ranch where our condo is located because it is across the street from Lake Grandby and only 5 minutes to the town of Grand Lake, yet it offers a reprieve from the bustle of town. We also loved the idea of a pool, hot tub, tennis/sport court, fitness center and on-site restaurant and bar. It has everything you could want in a mountain area!
My family planned on snowmobiling in Grand Lake, so we were looking for a place near to the Snowmobile Capital of Colorado, and we came across Tom's condo. Soda Springs Ranch is easy to find, and is located between Grand Lake and Granby.
The kids said the sofa bed was the most comfortable sofa bed they had ever slept on, and since it has a memory foam mattress, I wasn't surprised. This is a small unit, but it was just right for our family of four. At no time did it seem cramped.
Tom set our expectations properly before arrival. We were told that there is a stove top but no oven, and we were told that Internet service, while available, is "sketchy" at best. We would have been extremely frustrated at the number of times the Internet service would simply disconnect us with no notice or warning, but since Tom had set the correct expectation beforehand, we simply accepted it. (Please note: Verizon seems to be the only carrier to cover this part of Colorado. If you have another carrier, you may be roaming at Soda Springs Ranch!)
The information provided by Tom was thorough. We went through the appropriate provided checklist upon arrival and upon departure respectively, and it was easy to make ourselves at home in this unit.
This was a great value for the price, considering it was one of the most popular weeks of the year. Next time we return to the area for snowmobiling, I hope to find Tom's unit available again.
My wife and I stayed here for a long weekend in late September/early October. The space was perfect to accommodate us and our son. We enjoyed soaking in the hot tub, and our son loved the little playground. The playground was also convenient in that there is a grill (I'm referring to the gas grill, but there are charcoal grills too) right by the playground, so our son had somewhere to run around while the food was cooking. There was plenty of room in the storage lot to park the jet ski trailer, and the office staff and other tenants couldn't have been nicer.
We drove to the East Inlet Trailhead at the far east end of Grand Lake, and took a short hike up to Adams Falls. Conveniently, the trailhead shares a parking lot with the Grand Lake public boat ramp, so we launched the jet ski and set out exploring Grand Lake, and took the canal to Shadow Mountain Lake. We found an island on the south end of the lake, and had a perfectly picturesque picnic lunch. The next day, we drove a short distance (1.5 miles) down 34 and launched the jet ski at the Stillwater access point on Lake Granby. This park had a $5 access fee, but it was well worth it given how enormous Lake Granby is. We went all the way to the south end of the lake and had a picnic at the Roaring Fork Campground.
It was just a lovely weekend, and we can't wait to come enjoy more time at the lakes!
On a separate note, I wanted to share our experience dining at the Grand Lake Lodge. The Lodge has a spectacular panoramic view of Grand Lake and Shadow Mountain Lake with a beautiful porch to sit and enjoy a drink. However, we were thoroughly disappointed with the service at the restaurant. For a restaurant to command a ~$30 per meal price point, the level of service must match said price point. We had an inattentive server who forgot more than a few things, and our entrees took more than 40 minutes to arrive after we ordered them. Furthermore, the staff did not bus the table as we ate, so we had this pile of dishes from the appetizer, salads, entrees, and empty glasses by the end of the meal. A $100 meal is not a luxury we spring for very often, and while the food was pretty good, the dining experience was ruined by the service. I would come back here to enjoy another drink on the porch, but wouldn't eat at the restaurant again.
A nice little condo with a deck that was nice and shaded. We went to Grand Lake for Constitution week. They do a marvelous job of providing speakers and information at no cost. It was a week long event that reinforced our constitution and our love for America. I encourage everyone to take advantage of this event find a nice little condo like this one. But don't wait too long, places book up fast during that week plus the colors of the mountains were wonderful. 3 for the price of one-a nice condo, beautiful fall colors and great events in Grand Lake for constitution week.
My wife and I had the opportunity to stay here for a 3 day weekend. This condo was very clean, close to all the lakes and town, and comfortable for the two of us. Our family camped at Shadow Mountain Lake, and it was a quick 5 min drive for us to and from the lake. We would definitely stay here again.
The Grand Lake area is absolutely packed with every imaginable outdoor activity. It is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park, boasts 3 lakes, a historic downtown and so much more! You can't beat this area for the ultimate Rocky Mountain experience.
