About Lori Hendrix

My husband David and I share the love of the Smoky Mountains. We have two homes, a log cabin nearer to Pigeon Forge and this Chalet in Gatlinburg. We both love history, and love watching HGTV as well as 'Who Done It' movies and shows.

Lori Hendrix purchased this chalet in 2009

Why Lori Hendrix chose Gatlinburg

Our chalet is located in Chalet Village, right in Gatlinburg. This area is fantastic and offers skiing, sledding, shopping and everything in between. It was the perfect location to get away and enjoy all that Gatlinburg has to offer and yet escape to a peaceful setting for a quite evening. The breath-taking view and its cozy atmosphere sold us on the chalet. We know you will enjoy our place as much as we do.

What makes this chalet unique

This is better than a home away from home. You can enjoy, hiking, tennis, 3 different pool areas, snow skiing and boarding, as well shopping is just a short drive down the mountain.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We absolutely loved the cabin, it was so cute and clean! It's close to other rentals, but you can't see or hear any noise from the neighboring cabins. The inside of the cabin was so cute, clean, and very updated. The front porch was perfect for our family breakfasts in the morning. The deck on the side of the house had the hot tub and an additional outside sitting area with a charcoal grill. Overall it was so cozy, quiet, and really nice. The house was a 2 bedroom 2 bath, with an additional whirlpool tub that my 2 year old absolutely loved. Each bedroom had king sized beds. There was also a laundry area which we found so helpful, especially with our two year old. We had a great stay, and the location was good. It's very close to Gatlinburg about a 10 minute drive, and about a 15-20 minute drive to pigeon forge. Close to all of the attracting, but at the same time away from all of the noise of both towns.

Nice Amenities and Beautiful View

  • 5 of 5

When I first saw this listing there were no reviews posted since 2014. After contacting the owner, she quickly emailed me a link to her management's website where I found many positive reviews for 2015. I am sure she would do the same for you.

This mountain chalet is exactly as pictured. The initial booking process with Chalet Village Properties was easy with one phone call to the number on this website. They provide driving directions to their office and to the chalet. The drive up the mountain to the chalet takes about 15 minutes. The chalet was very clean, well maintained, and nicely decorated. There is a covered walkway to the covered hot tub, just outside the back door. There are other homes nearby, but they are nestled in the trees and you just don't notice them. It was quiet and peaceful. Downtown Gatlinburg is at the foot of this mountain. We arrived during the busy foliage season. During our stay the main street in Gatlinburg was congested with traffic. We found eating out and parking easier in Pigeon Forge so we took the Gatlinburg By Pass and 441which is a very short, pretty drive to Pigeon Forge. The Log Cabin Pancake House in Pigeon Forge has good breakfast choices and was reasonably priced. To see the mountain foliage we first stopped at the Gatlinburg Welcome Center / National Park Visitor Center on Hwy 441 between Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg and got a map of the Smoky Mountains. We drove on 441 to Clingman's Dome, the highest elevation in the mountains. Then we took Newfound Gap to Cherokee and Soco in South Carolina. Then back tracked on the Blue Ridge Parkway to Hwy 441 and on to Gatlingurg. The heavy, stop and go traffic in the mountains averaged 6-9 miles per hour on this Saturday and the trip took all day. The weather was sunny and provided a clear view of the high mountain colors. We did the foliage tour in New Hampshire last year, but the Smoky Mountain foliage won the prize this year.

I would recommend this chalet for anyone touring Gatinburg, Pigeon Forge, or the Ober Mountain Ski area. Gatlingburg and Pigeon Forge are both full of fun things to do. The area appeals to all ages. We enjoyed our trip to this chalet and the beautiful Smoky Mountains.

Abundance of Happiness at Bare Necessities

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the cabin for 6 nights. We spent most of our time hiking in the National Park but came back each night to cook and relax in the hot tub. This place is perfect for a small family or 2 couples. I feel the pictures of the interior of the house show what to expect well. There have been some minor changes since some of the pictures were posted: added cabinet in bathroom, added PlayStation to desk upstairs, grill is different than pictured but still a char/smoker grill. Two king beds are very difficult to find so it was great to see that offered. There were plenty of pillows and blankets. It is close to the National Park and downtown. You are fairly high up on the mountain so although it is only a few miles to downtown, it takes 15-20min to get there (all part of the mountains). Driveway is steep but it was no problem in the summer at all. The home is call Bare Necessities for a reason...bring anything you need to eat. Fridge and freezer had nothing in it at all. There are no spices, salt/pepper, tin foil, etc. There are some dishes, frying pans, baking sheet, a couple of bowls, cooking & grilling utensils (NO lighter for grill), forks/spoons/knives, and measuring stuff. Basically there is enough cooking and utensils for about 4 people. There is a full size coffee maker and toaster. They had some games and a deck of cards (one deck was missing some cards). The view is really nice, but there is some brush that gets in the way. You are very secluded from the other homes that are there if you are in the hot tub. If I had one suggestion, it would be to move the table and chairs from the front deck to where the hot tub and grill are located and put the other chairs on the front deck. Makes more sense to be able to eat where you are grilling. Also a small fire pit for s'mores would be great. A rental agency services all of the homes on the mountain. They were really nice, they accommodated our late check in and even fixed the fan light that wasn't working ASAP. They provide all of the dish soap, trash bags, and towels but you have to go get more if you run out which was slightly inconvenient since we were gone from early AM to late PM. The owners provide laundry soap is really kind of them (there was like 2 1/2 boxes when we were there so it wasn't like they left a trial size for you). There is a full size washer and dryer. We've rented several vacation homes & overall I would say that staying here was well worth the money and I would rent here again.

Wonderful Getaway Weekend- Beautiful Cabin and Mountain View

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I stayed at this cabin for a long weekend getaway. The cabin was absolutely beautiful. It had great amenities from the hot tub (with a beautiful view) and outside seating with grill to the living room, kitchen and bedrooms. The location is convenient to get to "tourist areas" in Gatlinburg and/or Pigeon Forge within 10-15 minutes, and far enough out where it feels quiet and quaint if that's what you're looking for. We would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it to others!

Great place to vacation

  • 5 of 5

We just got back from our week long stay at this chalet and couldn't have been more pleased it! The views were amazing and the home was clean with all the things you'd need for your stay. Two of my favorite things were the hot tub (and the view that went with it) and the fact that there are 2 king sized beds. That is hard to come by!

Great place for our second anniversary stay...

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay at Bare Necessities. It was very tastefully decorated and very clean. We enjoyed eating outside on the deck and relaxing in the hot tub and patio with the incredible views of the mountains. We even saw a momma bear with her 2 cubs and on another occasion a bear tried to get in the hot tub...thankfully we were not in it! There were other cabins nearby, but this chalet was on a hill and felt secluded and private....especially near the hot tub. This chalet offered many amenities and we enjoyed the special touches like movies, games, and even some complimentary laundry detergent. The location was great...close to the Great Smoky Mountains, Gatlinburg, and Pigeon Forge, but you definitely felt like you were up in the mountains. We definitely hope to stay here again and would not hesitate to recommend it. Thanks for sharing your chalet with us!

Great Time at Bare Necessities Cabin

  • 5 of 5

Very quiet, beautiful views and so many amenities...yet close enough to town to enjoy everything there. Entire cabin was super clean and we loved the cozy fireplace, games, hot tub, and the AMAZING scenery - thought I could almost see CA. Owners were extremely helpful with directions and ensuring all was ok upon our arrival. Awesome time!
