3 Bedroom/2 Bathroom With Lower Studio Flat(Next Door To Our Property #114779)
Summer 2018 will be our 15th year hosting travelers. Our Pedler's Paradise Cottage is very cozy and less than a 5 minute walk to award winning, uncrowded Pere Marquette Beach on Lake Michigan to watch some of our fabulous sunsets. The sunrises each morning over Muskegon Lake are also less than a 5 minute walk with your coffee in hand. The large, well kept yard is perfect for families with small kids needing room to play close-by safely and within view. Your visit will be peaceful and relaxed in this very clean cottage dressed up with lots of antique furniture and tastefully decorated. We take a lot of pride in how well we can do our part to make sure all our guests have a wonderful vacation with lots of good memories.
Our two side-by-side cottages are located on a beautiful sand-duned peninsula and are also surrounded by decades old beech, oak, and maple trees in the historically famous Bluffton neighborhood. The yard is one of the largest in the historic Bluffton Neighborhood. Perfect for kids to run around in view away from traffic. A partially covered patio in the back allows outdoor seating during the warm, summer rains. Sit outside in the morning and watch the sun peeking through the trees. Coming home from the beach in the later afternoon is perfect with more shade & cool summer breezes off the lakes. Dinner inside, out, or at a nearby restaurant and seeing another awesome sunset ends a perfect day. Hi-Speed Wireless Internet. LED HDTV's in the Upper & Lower Levels. Central Air Conditioning keeps the cottage as comfortable as you want, no matter how hot it is outside. We're sorry for our guests that want to bring their family dog. We have a very strict policy of ABSOLUTELY NO PETS on our properties. NO EXCEPTIONS. Hopefully, you can find someone to keep an eye on them at your home. We can only accommodate our SUMMER SEASON guests from SATURDAY TO SATURDAY. It's very important that any guests or visitors SMOKE OUTSIDE ONLY.
Upper Level Living Area: Harvest Oak simulated wood flooring is in the living area & master bedroom of the Upper Level. Two antique, matching swag stained glass hanging lamps are at each end of the living room. An HDTV is mounted out of the way on the wall next to the couch & easy chair. The Flat Screen TV can be seen from any angle with it's 4 Way Mount. A Blu Ray DVD Player can provide your own personal movies. A stereo below the TV is also a docking station for you to charge your unit while playing your very own tunes. The desk with easy access plugs as your Charging Station is convenient in the Living Room. An antique quarter-cut oak pedestal table/4 chairs faces the yard & wildlife feeding stations. The is a queen bed in the master bedroom and a wood 1920's antique dresser/mirror & bedside table. A student folding desk seat is nice for getting dressed or ready for bed. The 2nd upper level bedroom has a large closet and dresser along-side adult sized bunk beds. The bath has a shower/tub, along with the sink/cabinet & toilet. A list is on the fridge of all the items in the kitchen & where they are located. Everything needed in a kitchen is there or handy to get from the kitchenette in the lower level. Also, a nice table with 3 cushioned chairs in the kitchen looks over the back covered part of the patio. The 4 burner stove/oven is gas. It is not a large refrigerator, but ample enough to hold plenty of needed supplies. The small refrigerator on the lower level gives enough space for the overflow.
Lower Studio Amenities: This Area could almost be known as a 'Home within a Home' . Technically, it is considered what's known as a "Daylight Basement". The east side facing the yard is about 1/2 below grade & 1/2 above grade. The entry to the front apartment area is four steps, as is the entry in the back to the laundry room. The back entry also can access the kitchen on the upper level. The lower level is a small, but nice secluded getaway for adults or kids. It is carpeted in the sitting/sleeping area. For those taller than 5'7", there are a couple lower archways that require bending over. There is also a slight step-up from the sitting area to the Kitchenette. A beautifully finished antique chifferobe(chest of drawers with clothes hanging area & mirror) is our nicest antique furnishing. There are many more, top quality, antique furnishings throughout the cottage. The TV/Stereo cabinet with it's side to side swivel is easily viewed in the sleeping/sitting areas. A portable stereo/CD player is also provided. The privacy this space can provide for another guest or two to retreat to is handy. The queen bed is also a comfortable place to watch your favorite, late night TV programs. It's also a nice area for the older kids to watch their own tv shows. It's not advisable to leave young kids in this area that need to be watched more closely. It has it's own private entrance from outside or can be accessed inside through the laundry room. Along with the sink in the kitcehette, there is a double laundry sink, a sitting only toilet/stool under the stairwell, and a large shower, and the clothes washer & dryer.
Landscaping/Yard: We do some things to make the yard area better each year. We would like to add more annuals & perennials, but the voracious deer make it a real challenge. A wooden fence along the back border is great for helping provide privacy. The bamboo plants that fill in along the back border also give a natural privacy feel. The yard is one of the largest in the neighborhood. There is another area with a 2nd picnic table. We call this 'Boston's Nature Preserve'. Tiger Lillies surround this setting. Two bird feeding stations, corn holders for squirrels provide a close-up view of the abundant wildlife for some outstanding outdoor entertainment. The yard has sunny areas throughout the day, but is mostly shaded with the surrounding beech, oak, maple, & pine trees. Our yard maintenance service does stop by around mid-day to water and refill the wildlife feeding stations if needed. Wood stove ashes are properly disposed of for your convenience. This is all done with minimal intrusion. You might not see anyone unless you spend all your time at the cottage. An awning covers a large area of the patio off the back of the cottage. Off street parking for 2 cars. Street parking is legal and safe.

About Stan Denman
Growing up in Speedway, IN and attending Ball State University was Stan's background before coming to Muskegon in 1968. After teaching, coaching, part time administrative duties at the High School & Middle School for about 30 years, retirement came along. Annie grew up in nearby Whitehall and graduated from Western Michigan University. She travelled all over the world spending most of her time in the Caribbean and ski areas out west in Colorado & Utah. She and Stan have been together for almost 30 years. They live only 1/2 mile from both cottages.
Stan Denman purchased this Cottage in 1986
Why Stan Denman chose Beachwood-Bluffton
After 14 years of living all around the Muskegon Area Stan got his chance to buy a home in an area that felt the most like home than anywhere else. Stan saw this property for sale & wanted to buy it, but it was already sold to someone else. Fortunately, Plum Hollow(next door) was put up for sale a few months later. That was in 1982. This cottage(Pedler's Paradise) was again put on the market and Stan didn't miss out this time in 1986. We spent several fun filled years living in Plum Hollow while having a son & his wife, as well as many other wonderful guests, stay in Pedler's Paradise Cottage.
What makes this Cottage unique
The one characteristic that is most redeeming for this cottage, especially in the warm part of the year, is the large, side yard. Lots of room for kids to play and not feel your neighbors are on top of you. Other wonderful benefits would be it's close proximity to Lake Michigan and/or Muskegon Lake. It's very convenient to have both houses as an option for large or multiple families to stay at the same time and have lots of extra room inside & out. Having so many large trees(mostly Beech) around both properties provides lots of shade with lake breezes on hot summer days & nights.

Great Beach Get-away!!
My family and my brother's family rented both houses. The 4 cousins loved having the yard to run around in during the evening while we grilled some food and relaxed. Dan is such a great host and keeps the property immaculate. He's also a great resource for things to do, and extra stuff like beach chairs and beach toys. I would highly recommend the property to anyone planning to visit Muskegon.
A clean, quiet cottage near Lake MI with beaches and playgrounds.
The cottage was clean and comfortable with many little extra amenities like fresh flowers, mini muffins and a bowl of cherries to welcome us! The queen size beds were very comfortable and cable TV was available upstairs and downstairs but it was a surprise finding the downstairs commode in a closet! The owners fill the birdfeeders every day and we enjoyed watching the squirrels, birds and even two deer in the back yard. A very nice beach is in walking distance on Lake MI and there are lots of places to sit and watch the boats on Lake Muskegon. We enjoyed taking the ferry over to Wisconsin one day which is also located close to the cottage. A very friendly restaurant called the Cherokee is close by and offers a great breakfast menu and there are lots of good ice cream places. It's also a great area for walking and biking. The cottage has a nice back yard with a BBQ and fire pit and nice furniture to sit and enjoy a nighttime fire. The owners keep a close eye on the place and live nearby if you have any concerns while you're there. Thanks Stan and Annie for all the little extras you provided.
We we're welcomed with a delicious bowl of Michigan Cherries and mini muffins. Very nice touch. The home was probably the cleanest we've ever rented! We enjoyed watching the squirrels and birds and even saw some deer nearby. The proximity to the beach was OK., but we were really wishing we had something a little closer. The home had some really "unique" touches such as the "throne room".... not exactly perfect for anyone as senior as my husband and I. But, the privacy of having separation from the rest of our family and our own entrance (which wasn't quite as treacherous as all the rest of the steps and entrances of the house) was worth it. The host, Stan, was ALWAYS available (maybe overly present), but helpful.
Dear Mrs. Larry D.
We're sorry that your experience at our Pedler's Paradise Cottage was less than absolutely fantastic. We take great pride in our little home away from home for travelers. We also do all we can to ensure that everyone who stays here loves it as much as we do. Our belief has been for 14 years that our guests deserve nothing but the very best experience when they stay with us. We will continue to do everything we can to deliver that.
The lower level toilet is noted in our website to be "sitting only". Under "Suitability" we have always made it clear that the cottage is "unsuitable for elderly or infirm". I always tell guests I will be stopping by mid-day to check on lawn & exterior maintenance. We will try to make all this clear to our future guests.

A WESTERN MICHIGAN VACATION
OUR 4 WEEK STAY AT DEMMAN'S BEACH GROVE COTTAGE WAS ABOVE OUR EXPECTATIONS. BOTH ANNIE AND STAN WERE GRATIOUS
AND ACCOMODATING. THE COTTAGE WAS VERY CLEAN AND WELL KEPT. WITHOUT QUESTION A PLACE WE WILL BE BACK TO STAY.
Great location and friendly owners
We stayed there for a long weekend. The owner is very friendly and available as he lives just a few blocks away. We got locked out after a day at the beach and he was there to let us in quickly. Short walk to the beach. Great yard. Everything was clean. Freshly laundered towels and linens. House is a bit cramped, especially the kitchen, but it is a cottage. Overall it was a great value and we would stay here again.
Thank you for all the wonderful compliments regarding our cleanliness, friendly service, and extra amenities. The large yard & close proximity to Lake Michigan is a wonderful asset. As I said before your stay, our cottage would not be a good fit for 3 Adults and 4 Children. You insisted that this would not be a problem for all of you. Your cleanliness, good communication, and remodeling suggestions were appreciated. It is very satisfying to know you felt your money was well spent and you would consider us for another stay.
Cozy home near amazing beach
The house was clean and my kids and I felt very comfortable there. The hosts were very accommodating. I packed way more than I needed; the house had all the extras from beach toys and chairs and towels to a blender, Keurig and spices. We especially loved how close it was to the beach, we spent hours there, it was never crowded. The sunsets were amazing.
A few steps out the door are nature trails through the dunes. The paved bicycle/walking trails are for easier going. The paved trails also link to the extensive Shoreline Trail System. A neighborhood walk or a little further stroll to Lake Michigan/Muskegon Channel can also prove relaxing. The most scenic is always a sunset walk on the Pere Marquette Beach or the boardwalk that borders it. Also, within walking distance are two beach & water front restaurants. The nicest is Dockers Fish House & Lounge that overlooks the Harbour Towne Yacht Basin. There's seating inside or out and an outdoor tiki bar. Beach volleyball leagues & open play most every weeknight along the beach. Events are held most weekends on or near the beach. Sailing races during the week and on many weekends are held on both lakes. Kite Flying or the more exhilarating Kite Boarding are done regularly. Other Activities: Beach Volleyball, Miniature & Frisbee Golf, Batting Cages, Rollerblading & Skateboard Park, LST Ship night movies & Drive-in Theater, & Kite Boarding Golf: Muskegon's 'Water's Edge' Visitor's Guide provides the most extensive list of area golf courses. We can familiarize you with the most popular or widely used links.
