This house was okay, and that’s it. We have stayed at much nicer homes on Dauphin Island and paid significantly less.
Cons: The backyard was an overgrown mess. I spent about 30 minutes sweeping pine needles off the deck when we first arrived so we weren’t slipping on them. The landscaping was just not good. I know this isn’t exactly something that can be helped, but the mosquitoes ATE US ALIVE, even with a fire, tiki torches and bug spray. The blankets provided were very thin, stained and ripped. The sheets were constantly sliding off the beds. The bed frames were cheap and squeaky. The propane tank was empty and we didn’t feel like going through the hassle of getting it refilled like we have in the past, so we did without. The fire alarms flashed an obnoxious light, we covered them with tape. Kitchen stove was greasy, not well cleaned. The refrigerator in the kitchen did not get very cold at all, we had to put a lot of our groceries in the outside fridge. The dishes and other kitchen supplies were gross. Carpets felt kind of sticky. Found decaying bugs in the corners of the bathroom. There is one TV in the whole house, that is in the living room and it is quite small for how far away it is from the couch.
Pros: Good size driveway for parking several cars. The neighbors directly across the street were very nice. Lots of towels were provided. There’s lots of space in the living room. Love that there were not cameras, like some other properties that make you feel watched all the time. The kids loved the basketball hoop, and that there was a basketball provided.
Overall, we weren’t impressed with this house. The condition of everything needs attention. Also, not sure why it’s not pet friendly, given its condition. We regret staying here, not only because of the high cost, but because it just wasn’t comfortable. I don’t like giving bad reviews, but I would have liked to have known some of this before I booked it.
