Loved the hikes and vistas

  • 4 of 5

A cosy, compact house. We were very comfortable and favored the deck area most of all, as weather permitted.

Brian was very helpful about the activities in the area and having use of the kayaks was fun.

The accommodations were clean and roomy. We loved the screened in porch and spent most of our time there.

We found the stairs to the dock a bit steep.

Overall, very pleased with our stay and wouldn't hesitate to rent in the future. Thanks

Owner's Response: Thanks for the review and for leaving the house spotless. Agreed that the stairs to the lake are steep. May be investing in a new set of stairs to be sure all guests can navigate them more comfortably. Brian M.

Great cottage for our family vacation by the lake.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the cottage on Algonquin Lake. It had plenty of room for my husband and myself and our daughters and their husbands. Lots of sitting areas where everyone could spread out, plus a really nice TV with cable. The lake was beautiful, we enjoyed kayaking and canoeing around it. (We even saw a bald eagle!). We especially liked the firepit for making a bonfire and the screened porch. Being high above the lake with all the trees around, it was just like sitting in a treehouse!

Fun on the lake

  • 4 of 5

I can honestly say that the water front was a delight to our three grandsons. There were two kayaks for kids, one canoe, one paddle board, and two adult kayaks - perfect for all 7 of us to go out in. The boys loved jumping off the dock to swim as well. Inside they loved having a TV for their early morning wake up giving the adults a little more time to sleep. We loved the sunporch - a great modern addition to what is an older house.

For improvements on the house, I suggest replacing the steps going into the house. They are dangerous, and very high to step up onto. Also, the railings going down to the water are also very dangerous, and not really a support if you really needed them. Fortunately we are all in good physical shape, but being older, these things do worry me. Maybe I am being picky, but the mattresses were very squeaky. Having said all that, we had a wonderful week, and came away with great memories. Thank you again Brian for your kindness regarding the accident my husband had.

Owner's Response: Hi Pat, Glad you enjoyed your stay Thanks for your suggestions. They are appropriate and will be acted upon shortly. In fact my wife and I just replaced two mattresses and box springs based on our adult children's suggestion. Brian/Joan Murphy

Cute, comfortable lakeside cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed this charming cottage. The location was wonderful. We loved using the kayaks, canoe and floating raft. Tried some fishing but no one was hungry that day! Plenty of room for 2 adults and four teenagers. Brought the bikes and loved biking around the lake. Lots of fun things to do within an hour. Lake George, caving, rock climbing, waterfalls and hiking! Brian was great, made sure everything was perfect for our stay. Hoping to try for a winter visit.

Algonquin Whispers

  • 5 of 5

This home away from home is truly that; a home. The house and yard are comfortable and well maintained. The location is convenient for local hikes and day trips. We used the kayaks, canoe and pedalboat daily. The town beach is within walking distance and although we swam off the dock at the house the kids enjoyed going over to the beach to jump off the diving board. Using the firepit and roasting marshallows was a nightly event. Take time to make a day trip to the Adirondack Museum it is wonderful for all ages. Its about a 1 hour drive. Less than 1 mile north on route 30 is Mountain Memories Cafe. They serve a delicious but inexpensive lunch. In Speculator behind the department store is a cafe that has GREAT coffee and a good breakfast. Brian couldn't have been a nicer host. I would highly recommend staying at this house. Two suggestions: Stop in Perth to grocery shop for the week. There is a Grand Union in Northville(10 minutes south) and Charlie Johns in Speculator(10 minutes north) I used both for picking up odds and ends. Second go to the Chamber of Commerce in Speculator(on route 30 by charlie Johns) it has a wealth of information about exploring the Adirondaks. Take at least one short hike and you'll be hooked. We had a very peaceful vacation and I didn't want to leave.
