Kate and Baker Henson are both excited to share their new rental home with you. Baker grew up right around the corner; Kate grew up in the mountains of Virginia. They are both physicians in PA, but hope to return to the area in the next few years.
Baker and Kate Henson purchased this cottage in 2014
On the Watauga River, the cabin is situated near a rural farming neighborhood. Fishing, canoeing or swimming in the Watauga River is very convenient. Bring your mountain bike and enjoy the gentle grade of the Watauga River Road ... or for a little more adventure, let us recommend a nearby trail that fits your abilities ... And if road biking is your passion, find out why Lance Armstrong said of our area '...I'd say it's the best area for training in the whole of the United States.' (Cycle Sport June 1998).
Shopping at the historic Mast General Store is only 2 miles away.
Restaurants of all types are in nearby Banner Elk, Boone and Blowing Rock as well as a few in the village of Valle Crucis itself. Hiking trails are available onsite or within a short drive.
And during the winter months ... Three ski resorts are within a 30 min. drive. Cross country skiing onsite is available if snow conditions are right. Snow tubing is an option for the non-skier at some ski resorts nearby.
Wonderful atmosphere &views.... just a fantastic cottage. Looking forward to the next visit!
This place far exceeded our expectations coming into it. My wife and I got to the property at night after traveling from Florida. I wish we would have arrived during the day time for a couple reasons: 1) We missed out on the amazing mountain views as we drove to the cabin. 2) The drive through the mountains wasn't that bad, but because we are from Florida, mountain driving seems more intense. When we arrived to the cabin we were so impressed as soon as we walked in the door. My wife is a clean freak and she was in love with how it smelled, how everything was organized, and the house book that explained alot of the things about the house. The full kitchen was one of our favorite parts. We cooked everyday and loved that the kitchen has most of what we needed to cook with. Pots, pans, blender, coffee maker, dishwasher, kitchen utensils, you name it. Then we woke up the next morning and blown away with the views. Since we arrived at night, we didn't really know what it looked like around the cabin. There were deer right outside our back door!
We hiked and walked around the property and it was beautiful. The hot tub being outside was amazing! We sat on the porch and enjoyed the amazing weather. We watched some netflix movies. Drove to Boone (which is only about 20 min away) to get groceries, check out some local coffee shops and shop around a little bit.
MAKE SURE TO TRY OUT OVER YONDER!! It is only 8 minutes away from the cabin and it is amazing! My wife and I went twice during the week that we were there.
All in all, I would recommend this property to anyone who asks me. You will not regret it! It was more than incredible (hence the title of this review).
This little cabin was the perfect spot for us as we visited family in the area. Beautifully decorated and immaculately clean, we felt welcome, warm and cozy in this lovely, private cabin. If you have an eye for detail, this is the place for you. The owners invested in high quality finishes and a fully stocked kitchen for this newly renovated cabin. I highly recommend this perfect little place and hope to return one day.
We loved our time at the restored farm cottage. It was very comfortable and serene. We truly relaxed on our vacation. Although we did lots of hiking and sight seeing, our favorite day was when we stayed all day at the cottage, walked the river road, sat on the porch, looking at the river and the cows, reading and relaxing. We truly appreciated how beautiful the house is, how well appointed the kitchen is and the remote, rural setting.
Words can't describe how much we enjoyed our stay. We will definitely be back!
Baker and Kate have created such a welcoming cabin. From the second you walk in you feel right at home. The decorations are modern and stylish. The house is outfitted with everything you need to have a comfortable stay. The kitchen is fully equipped with quality kitchen ware. The views are breathtaking from every window in the house. There is hiking right on the property. We enjoyed every second and did not want to go home!
