Beautiful, Spacious, Ocean View Home - Walk to Town and Beach

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 3 Baths, (Sleeps 7-8)

Located in historic Rockport, on Cape Anne, Massachusetts, this charming 4 bedroom ocean-view cottage is just an hour's drive north of Boston. Enjoy beautiful beaches, rocky coastline, lighthouses, museums, art galleries, antique and gift shops, not to mention numerous ocean attractions including whale watching, kayaking, sailing, and much, much more.

Ideally situated, the home is just a 10-15 minute seaside walk to the quaint shops, restaurants and art galleries in downtown Rockport, and even less to the neighborhood beach. In addition to dining, gallery-hopping or shopping in town, you may opt to rent kayaks on Bearskin Neck, climb on the rocks that form the break-water in the harbor, pick up lobster or fresh fish for dinner, or simply pause to dangle your feet off the wharf as you take in the spectacular harbor views including that of the famous Motif #1 fish shack. Rockport is also home to a summer Chamber Music Festival, and the new Shalin Liu Performance Center, which opened in June 2010.

Within a short drive, day trips abound to other local beaches and attractions nearby. Go whale watching or deep sea fishing from the seaport and fishing community of Gloucester. Hike at Halibut State Park around an old rock quarry and along the ocean. Enjoy antiquing in Essex or Newburyport, or swimming and sunbathing at the beautiful Crane Beach in Ipswich. The train to Boston is only a five minute drive away. Or if R&R is what the day calls for, imagine curling up with a book in the sunroom or on the Adirondack chairs on the front porch.

This spacious home sleeps 7-8, and is ideal for one or two families vacationing together, or two couples. The first floor includes a fully-stocked kitchen and adjacent family room, a large living room, dining room, bathroom (with shower) and cozy sun porch with ocean views. The 3 bedrooms on the second floor comfortably sleep a total of 6. The third floor is perfect for children; one bedroom has two single beds. An additional single bed is located in a separate third-floor playroom. Both the second and third floors have full baths.

The home is comfortable, tastefully decorated and spacious, the perfect spot for a fun-filled, yet relaxing vacation!

About The Owner

We're a family of five, based in Kentucky, but with hearts in New England. We've spent the better part of our last 25 summers in Rockport enjoying the best of what a Massachusetts seaside town has to offer. We love sharing our Rockport experience with others.

The Owner purchased this house in 1997

Why The Owner chose Rockport

My husband and I have enjoyed vacationing in New England since we married in the early 80s and fell in love with Rockport the first time we visited. We instantly appreciated why so many artists chose this locale -- it's beauty is truly breath-taking. The town offers absolutely everything we love in a vacation spot, plenty of options for outdoor activities, like biking, hiking, swimming and kayaking, opportunities to enjoy music and art, as well as great food and R&R. Although we love our Kentucky home, we look forward to cool temps and sea breezes that typify summers in Rockport. Soon after our children were born, we wanted to continue to share this beautiful area with them and decided to purchase a home in Rockport where we could spend many summer weeks.

What makes this house unique

Our home offers ocean views and breezes, proximity to a neighborhood beach as well as art, music and food in the downtown area, and opportunities to enjoy all the outdoor activities we love, including hiking, biking and relaxing at the beach.

Outstanding Classic New England Ocean-View Home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this lovely property for a week in August, 2015, and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The house is architecturally beautiful, with a huge front porch for ocean viewing. The enclosed sun porch also looks out at the wonderful view, and both settings are ideal for relaxing and dining. Having grown up on the Massachusetts north shore, we felt at home in this upscale, quiet neighborhood, and it is an easy trip to several nearby beaches. The charming town of Rockport, with its many art galleries and shops, is walking distance as well. The entrance to the Atlantic foot path is right across the street from the house, and the walk along the cliff side trail is inspiring. With all there is to see and do on Cape Ann, you will never be bored, but this home is in such a terrific setting, that we found it hard to tear ourselves away.

The house itself is exceptionally comfortable, with a large, well-stocked kitchen. There are numerous areas of the home in which to gather and/or find a cozy spot to curl up with a book. The bedrooms are all air conditioned, and in August this was appreciated.

We plan to return next summer as well. This welcoming home is a wonderful find, and we plan to enjoy it yearly!

A Gem for a Family Vacation in Rockport

  • 5 of 5

We have been visiting Cape Ann each summer for the past 12 years and have stayed in over 20 houses. This is probably the very best home we have rented. It is a large, well maintained, well-equipped, and beautifully decorated home. It was very comfortable for our family to be together as well as to spread out to be alone. The front porch and screened porch with views of the ocean were a highlight for all of us. The yard provided a pleasant surrounding and setting plus privacy from neighbors. The window air conditioning units were great to have on those few hot nights. The outdoor shower helped after a sandy day at the beach. Some of the other niceties the house had that are not always available in rental houses in Rockport included a hose at the back door, a maintenance man near-by (who we did not need but we knew he was available), beach chairs and beach gear, a full sized washing machine and dryer, a garbage disposal, the window air conditioning units, plenty of dining space both indoors and outdoors, and ample street parking. Walking in the area was enjoyable and safe because there is little traffic. The walk into Rockport was about 15 minutes---part of the walk can be on the ocean footpath. Our family goes to Good Harbor Beach which was only about a 10 minute drive. This is a great home for family vacation in Rockport!

Something for everyone

There were so many wonderful things.....the varying weather, old garden beach, the neighborhood gardens, reading on the porch, being able to walk to town, and the outdoor shower! This place provided us with everything we needed to simply enjoy our time.

Perfect vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a week here and we had family visit during our stay. The house is lovely and comfortable and the neighborhood is peaceful. The kids loved the the short walk to Old Garden beach and the adults loved the porch and the comfy beds. We had a family trip out to Thacher's Island, visited several beaches, kayaked and explored Rockport, Essex and Manchester. The area is incredibly beautiful and the house is everything we hoped for in terms of comfort, location and amenities. We hope to return next year.

Best porch in the world

  • 5 of 5

We rented the house for the week of my daughter's wedding in Rockport. While I had driven past the house and seen it from the outside, I was just stunned by the beauty of the house from the inside. The tall ceilings, the abundance of windows and light, the tasteful decorations, and the comfortable furniture all combined to make it feel like the best home possible. The bridesmaids along with the hair stylist all came to the house on the morning of the wedding to get ready at the house. It was such a fun place to see the young women transform themselves! I don't think I properly appreciated how beautiful the front garden is until I saw the photos of the bride and bridesmaids standing in it! Having the choice of sitting either on the veranda or in the glassed in section of the veranda was perfect because it didn't matter when there was a cool morning. We still felt like we were taking advantage of being in a vacation house. The only disadvantage was I never wanted to go out to dinner because I didn't want to leave the veranda! I compromised on getting takeoff from an excellent Gloucester restaurant. The consideration of the owners in the furnishings and accoutrements was touching. There were maps, guide books, personal recommendations of the owners, towels, beach chairs and everything you could think of to add to the comfort of our stay. The kitchen supplies were great. Being able to walk down the garden path whenever you felt like looking at the ocean was very special. Sometimes we would walk down to see the sunset over the harbor twice in an evening! Walking in the neighborhood was enjoyable because there are some stunning gardens nearby. I do hope to stay in this house again. Rockport is a beautiful place to be and this home in particular combined to make a perfect vacation week.

Ideal family beach house

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two young boys, and I were fortunate enough to spend two weeks at this home last summer. We were visited by other family members over the course of our stay and everyone was very happy to stay here. Cozy yet spacious, it provided plenty of private spots for alone time while also offering common spaces that could comfortably accommodate a crowd. The location can't be beat and the owners are a delight to deal with. We felt right at home and at the same time transported to someplace far away and wonderful. We're heading back this summer, too, because we all agree this house is great.
