Why Rick chose Isle of Palms
Enjoy island living and the most beautiful historical city in the United States all in one vacation. Delicious seafood, key lime pie, and cooking classes are a few of the choices one can experience while visiting the Charleston area. Wonderful flat beaches that are perfect for walking or riding bicycles as you view our spectacular Low Country sunrises and sunsets are appreciated by many. Consider visiting the historic market area, museums and galleries, and the SC Aquarium after a guided covered carriage ride of the Battery and the many historic homes, churches, and governmental buildings. You will not want to go home. Shelling, observing our many varieties of wildlife, or simply listening to the soothing sound of the waves can become part of your memories.
What makes this House unique
Enjoy your beach walks on this lovely island and bring your fishing gear to fish on the edge of the beach. Ask the owners for bike rental information if you don't want to bring your own bikes. Hopefully you will be present to see the baby sea turtles leave their nests during certain seasons. It is fun to participate in the farewell event as the islanders watch them leave the sandy shores and go out to sea.

Even Better, Second Time Around!
We returned home last evening from our beach vacation on IOP. We lived in Charleston for a few years and our daughter was born there, so we like to go back to visit. Last year (2012) was the first time we stayed in this cottage. We were so impressed we booked it again for this year and will rent it again on future visits to IOP.
The cottage is a short walk to the beach and has all the vacation necessities you will need. The kitchen is not stocked for a "chef" (I concur with a previous review), but it has the basics. Besides, Charleston is known for fabulous restaurants, so take off the chef's hat and enjoy! After all, you are on vacation!
Keep in mind, this is a rental property, so the basic paper products (kleenex, tp, paper towels, napkins, etc.) are not stocked. So either bring them with you or purchase when you arrive. Same goes for trash bags.
Rick and Lisa (property owners) are great to work with and go the extra mile to ensure their "guests" have a great vacation!
Thank you for your very favorable review. There are several families that have rented the cottage more than once, and my husband and I are always pleased that they would consider coming back to the cottage. As mentioned, Charleston has many wonderful restaurants, and I am amazed at how many different ways "Shrimp and Grits" can be prepared, but for those who enjoy cooking, I thought it would be helpful to list a few things about the kitchen, so guests would know what to expect.
First of all, many people like the fact that there is a large island for food preparation. Since we began renting the cottage, the kitchen has been stocked with these and other basic items for cooking: a stainless steel cookware set (sauce pans and skillets with lids), a very large stainless steel pot (with lid) for boiling shrimp etc., a roaster pan with lid (large enough for a turkey), baking pans for cookies, cakes, muffins, blender, electric can opener, coffee pot, casserole dishes, a tea kettle, a set of stainless knives in a wooden block, large microwave oven, hand mixer, stainless steel colander and various utensils. The cottage has Dansk dishes that can be used in the microwave.
Also, our housekeepers normally leave soap, shampoo (small bottle), initial toilet paper, Kleenex, one roll of paper towels, and a few dishwasher detergent packs. If they fail to leave these initial items, we have a rental management company that renters can call upon arrival who can notify the housekeeping company to bring any missing starter products. The housekeepers are usually diligent about leaving the aforementioned items prior to arrival.
My husband and I feel that the cottage is a very special place, and we hope that others have a delightful experience while visiting the Charleston area.
Smooth transaction and cute cottage!
This cottage was very clean and cute. I really liked the layout of the house. Lisa was a delight to work with and all aspects of the rental process were smooth. The location of the home is very close to the beach and not too far from Charleston. Just a couple of caveats: I thought the kitchen could have been a little more stocked since I like to cook. Also, we bought kleenex and hangers which were not included or sparse. And there is a lot of religious decor, which made us uncomfortable. Some we could slip into drawers but not all.
The best beach house ever
My daughter and I were attending a wedding on IOP and wanted to stay in a house rather than sterile hotel. Our two nights in this wonderful house were not enough!!!! The location is wonderful - steps away from the beach, close to restaurants and shops at Wild Dunes, the marina, etc. The screened in porch was delightful. I just wish we had more time to relax and use it the way it was intended.
The house itself was perfectly decorated and maintained with all the highest quality furnishings and beddings. We didn't use the kitchen, but from what I saw, everything was there that you could have wanted for cooking. Seriously, the pictures are lovely, but they don't really do the house justice. There really wasn't anything missing, but if I had to stretch my brain to come up with something, it would be bikes or kayaks, and even that isn't an issue. Period!
I can't say enough good things about Lisa, and the ease of renting her lovely home. Getting the key was a no-brainer with the real estate office that was located right as you enter the island. There was an issue with us not being able to use the house because of an illness, and Lisa bent over backwards to move dates around to accommodate us. Sadly we were unable to take her generosity. I am dying to get back - hopefully one day.
Perfect location to unwind
It all began with a phone call from the owner while on the way - "The cottage is ready early if you'd like to check in early". Who's ever heard of that kind of hospitality in the North? The proximity to the beach is great! The screened porch in the morning and at night was perfect! (We had the advantage of perfect weather throughout the week, so, I may be a little biased). Very enjoyable house.
Great beach access! Very cute beach house and perfect for our family of four, which includes two teens. The owners have a high attention to detail. Cute, cozy, quiet, comfortable vacation digs! Very bike friendly area, close access to Wild Dunes Resort. I would say the quietest part of the beach. Very family friendly island.
Thank you for your description of the beach cottage and the surrounding area. I believe it will help others know if the cottage would meet their vacation needs. It sounds like you and your family enjoyed your stay. Please keep the cottage in mind for future vacations.
Perfect beach cottage
What a wonderful experience! The owner was very helpful and super fast in responding to all questions regarding this lovely beach cottage. It was spotless and could not have been more comfortable, from the wonderful furniture on the screened in porch to the top of the line mattresses and linens. It was very well appointed and the owner clearly takes pride in ensuring the comfort of her guests. The beach is so close and our son loved skimboarding several times a day. The basement is a perfect place to relax, watch the large TV or have a foosball tournament. We loved everything about this cottage.
Thank you for your kind words about the cottage, and I am thankful that you had such a memorable vacation. Isle of Palms is a very special place, and I hope you will have the opportunity to return in the near future!
There are several good restaurants, shops, and a new grocery store on the Isle of Palms. The Isle of Palms beach is very flat which is conducive for beach walks and biking. The island is in close proximity to Mount Pleasant and Charleston which offer so many places to visit such as plantations, historical homes, museums, an aquarium, shopping and restaurants galore!
