Fanore Lodge is nestled between the sea and Slieve Elva, set amid the wonders of Burren flora and its unique geology, offering views of the sea and the long sandy beach, three minutes from Fanore Lodge. There is a local surf school operating from the beach. The Caher River runs by the door, and the soothing sounds of water on rock can be heard from the house. Fanore Lodge is at the foot of the Caher Valley Nature Reserve. The Caher Valley and Caher River probably take their names from the fact that there are so many ring forts or cahers in the immediate vicinity. The house is ideally situated at the starting point of many hiking routes.
The house is protected as a historical structure and has been sympathetically and attractively furnished and decorated according to the period in which it was built. The owner is fond of art and there are paintings and prints of well known artists throughout the house and many images of the Burren.

Comfortable, homey, and well equipped
Such a comfy home, with everything we needed as international travelers. Geraldine is a lovely helpful landlady as well. Highly recommend.
Very cozy and lovely country house, we love it!
We stayed this house for 10 nights. We had a fantastic relaxing holiday. There are plenty activities in this area.
Beautifully furnished house overlooking fields and beside a gentle stream. Lovely!
The house is very comfortable and Geraldine made sure we had everything we needed. We really appreciated the welcome package in the kitchen, and enjoyed the collection of books and music. It is a perfect location for walking in the Burren and listenig to music in Doolin. We walked Fanore Beach every day. A wonderful house to stay in!
Many thanks Heather!
A wonderful house in a dramatic landscape: a real Irish experience
We have just returned from 7 cozy, comfortable nights at Fanore Lodge. The owner, Geraldine, has created an exceptionally welcoming and comfortable place, located in a historic building in the stunning Burren landscape. The house overlooks the Caher river, with views across fields to the Aran Islands and Atlantic ocean. The house is very comfortable and bright, with a charming, well appointed living room with fireplace. It's a perfect place to lounge after dinner, and read or talk and listen to music in front of a warming peat fire. The kitchen is also a comfortable place to spend time, with a big table in the center and a wood stove for warmth. The kitchen is really well equipped, with good knives, pans and even a rolling pin for pretty much anything you’d want to cook or bake. The bedrooms are comfortable and bright with good beds, and a king size in the master. There were just two of us, but I could imagine it being very comfortable for more, with both places to be together and places to have private time. The house really feels like a deluxe hotel, or that you’re staying in a good friend’s home, where everything has been thought of to make you comfortable. We were there in November, so didn’t spend time lounging outside, but there are many places to eat or relax, and a there is a gas barbeque. Just beyond the front door, the road leads up into the Burren, and there are numerous trails for hiking. Geraldine provides a large number of guides and maps to study before setting out, and we could have simply spent our whole week there exploring the Burren on foot. If you've never been, you can't understand the feeling of the Burren, it is absolutely breathtaking, more than photos can convey.
For food, we found good options in the charming town of Ennistymon: the Super Value supermarket has everything, and it's good. Across the street there is a gourmet shop with meats and prepared items. There is also a small plaza with a vendor selling really great fresh fruit and veggies, including yummy Irish potatoes! The best place is a cheese shop farther along the street, selling excellent Irish cheeses, house made breads, pesto and tapinades. Great lunch or dinner options are available in Ballyvaughn, a very scenic 20 minutes away by car. It was nice to return to the house after a day of exploring, make a good dinner and relax in front of the fire.
We plan on returning, and highly recommend Fanore Lodge.
It was a pleasure to meet both of you!
Wonderful little getaway
Geraldine, our host, was so thoughtful! She had everything ready for us prior to arrival even after I made a last minute change to our arrival time. There was a warm and inviting fire going and she had many delicious goodies from Ireland for us to try. I loved this the most! There were so many lovely little details that made our trip to Ireland so wonderful. We loved tasting all the samples from your country. We especially enjoyed the heated sheets to keep us warm and cozy all night long. Another of my favorites was tea and scones in Doolin. We explored almost every nook and cranny of this beautiful country and found the people to be great. My husband even made a romantic fire a few nights! We enjoyed a beautiful little picnic by the ocean! We will miss this land and hope to return again soon!

Fanore Lodge - a Perfect Paradise
This home is perfect for whatever you're looking for. It's a riverfront, ocean-view home in a charming little town. It's beautifully restored and very charming. Geraldine provides everything you will need, and things you weren't even expecting! There are local goodies in the fridge to tide you over until you can make it to a store. The location is right along the Burren Way, and has easy access to all sites in western Ireland. I'm so relaxed right now, having spent a peaceful 5 days in this lovely home. Just a word of advice, plan to arrive before dark -- the area is rural and you may miss your turn-off!
Glad you enjoyed the house and area!
Stunning location in the heart of the Burren, a karst landscape of great natural beauty, richly endowed with rare botanical specimens including several varieties of wild orchids. Situated adjacent to the Caher Nature Reserve and the Burren National Park.
Fanore Lodge is nestled between Slieve Elva and the golden sandy beach of Fanore, (500 yards), which is safe for bathing and has a local surf school and Life Guards during summer months. There is a wide range of activities on the door step including sea angling at Blackhead, coastal and hill walking on marked green roads, loop walks, horseriding, golfing and cycling. This region is also full of opportunities for potholers as the area has a extensive network of underground caves.
Home to poets and artists, this inspirational landscape is rich in antiquities including prehistoric settlement and burial sites such as dolmens, cairns and ring forts as well as ruins of medieval monastic sites.
'The Caher Valley and Caher River probably take their names from the fact that there are so many ring forts or cahers in the immediate vicinity. Further up the valley, past the bridge, is a fulacht fiadh or cooking place to the south of the road.
Close to award winning sea food restaurants. North Clare is famous for its traditional music and many of the local pubs feature live music. Only a 15 minute drive to Doolin, renowned for Irish music. The Cliffs of Moher, one of the most popular Irish tourist attractions is also only 20 minutes away. The Aran Islands are a short cruise from Doolin and ferries run several times a day.
Fanore Lodge is a one hour drive to Galway; and during the summer months a fast speed ferry operates from Ballyvaughan to Galway.
Coole Park, to which WB Yeats was a frequent visitor, is 45 minutes drive and Doolin and Ailwee caves are just 20 minutes away.
Lahinch 18 Hole Championship Links Golf course is 30 minutes drive. Doonbeg, a Greg Norman Golf Course, European Golf Course of the year 2010, is only an hours drive away.
