(If you're looking for the perfect place to spend the off-season, inquire with us for details on long term fall and winter rentals.)
Just steps from the Kennebec River, this location allows you to enjoy a tranquil getaway while remaining close to any attractions you may desire: beaches, fishing, boating, shopping, and more.
The house is situated on four acres and surrounded by the woods of the Kennebec Land Trust. As you drive up the stone driveway to the top of the hill you pass by the front of the house and come around to the back entrance. A deck spans the entire back of the house and has a grill as well as a large outdoor table with umbrella and chairs. You can enjoy quiet mornings out on the deck in the summer sun or meals outdoors in the evenings.
Entering the back door you pass a half bath and small back bedroom on your right to find a large open kitchen and dining room on your left. The kitchen is stocked with all the necessities if you want to cook at home and a large dining room table that seats 10. As you walk through the dining room you enter the family room. A comfy couch, Direct TV, and WiFi are available if weather or other circumstances keep you indoors for part of your stay. Off the family room is the Master Bedroom. With plenty of windows and a Queen size bed, the Master is bright and welcoming. French doors open out onto the back deck so you can step right outside.
Heading downstairs the ground floor has three full bedrooms and a full bath which provide plenty of room for family or friends or both to stay. The full bath is stocked with towels and there’s a laundry room for your use at the bottom of the stairs. Each bedroom has a double bed and ample closet space. All the bedroom windows look out onto the front lawn which stretches down the hill to the road.
The local area offers every kind of activity you could hope for while visiting Maine. The Kennebec River is only 800 feet from the house, with fishing access at the end of Old Ferry Road. Farther down Fiddler’s Reach Road is the public boat access where you can enter the river for a day of boating. You can travel North to Bath or South towards Popham Beach and Boothbay Harbor. If you want to spend a day at the beach you can drive down Route 209 to Popham Beach State Park and walk out on the expansive sand flats at low tide. Visit the Fort Popham Site nearby if you’re interested in a bit of history or grab something to eat a Spinney’s, a long-time local spot right on the beach.
If you’re interested in shopping or lunch or dinner out, Boothbay, Georgetown, and Brunswick are all nearby. Even Freeport isn’t too far if you want to visit L. L. Bean, a Maine institution.
My name is Darren and I’ve been vacationing in the Phippsburg area my whole life. I have a background in construction and I have carefully, gracefully remodeled this home to be a place suitable for large family gatherings. I live in Boston and usually come up to the house only on the weekends. It has been a privilege for me to own this home and has brought me great joy and many memorable experiences, both at the house and out on the water.
Darren Goodwin purchased this house in 2007
I didn't purchase this home with the intention of renting it out, but I ended up doing so in order to allow people to experience the same joy I've had here. It just so happens that after I completed the remodel, it became clear to me that there was a need for a property as unique as this on the vacation rental market. By offering up my home for rent in this beautiful area, I feel I'm able to contribute to bringing wonderful experiences into other people's lives. One of our guests called this home, “the greatest place on earth'. That being said, the main reason I rent out this property is to allow you to experience just a short visit to paradise and create great memories.
This rental offers the perfect mix of a tranquil setting away from it all with closeness to everything so you’re not spending the day driving around if you want to get out. We enjoy proximity to the river, beaches, shopping and dining, and the highway. That includes great dining, antiquing, a boat launch, golf, state parks and beaches, historic sites, and more. It’s the perfect location for any renter since you have any activity you desire at your fingertips while still being able to get away from it all and just enjoy the peach and quiet at home.
Every detail as described by Darren in this listing was accurate. He was extremely easy to work with and he paid attention to the smallest details to ensure a relaxing week's stay in this superb home. 7 family members were in our group along with our 3 dogs who also enjoyed the area. Live lobsters were available a few miles away and we were able to eat a total of 77 during our stay. Thanks again Darren for sharing your home with us. Highly recommended !!
We had a lovely time in Maine. The house was big and the rooms spacious with very comfortable beds. The kitchen was well equipped and we used the bbq a lot. The surrounding is of course very quiet. Melissa were great and helpful and gave us a very good tips on what we should see while we were in the house. We would definitely stay here again
I had a great time last weekend thanks to extremely accommodating landlords who were not only helpful but went above and beyond to make sure my stay was comfortable.
The property is well kept and the house was a pleasure to relax in. Upon arrival, I met with Darren and Melissa who welcomed me with a tour of the property and some background. Super sweet people who are very dog friendly (which is awesome given the size of the property---your dogs will love it!) and helpful. The house was in great shape--all the linens were clean and the kitchen works like new. The bathroom is brand new and is in top shape. The grounds around the home include a porch and fire pit, and the walk to the kennebec is minutes.
I would seriously recommend this rental for anyone looking for a nice, relaxing, quiet weekend away in true Maine fashion. You are minutes from Bath/Bruinswick if you wanted a little more excitement too.
The property was well maintained and everything was as advertised. It was spacious, clean, and well-stocked. Darren was available at all times for any questions or issues. The location allowed for short day trips to several different beaches including popham and reid state park beaches. The fire pit and short walk to Kennebec river were nice unexpected bonuses.
My boyfriend and I rented this house for Labor Day weekend and had a wonderful time! We had great weather and really enjoyed the last long weekend of summer!
Our friends joined us and even with four of us the house was bigger than we needed! My boyfriend and I stayed upstairs in the master bedroom and our friends stayed in one of the downstairs bedrooms. My boyfriend and I were also able to bring our two dogs - a big reason we were excited about this place.
As for the house, we especially loved the back deck - it's where we spent most of our time. It was private and quiet and so relaxing. In the morning we had our coffee there before we headed out for the day. Most of our days we went down to Popham beach - gorgeous! - and just enjoyed the surf and sand. We also made it down to Freeport one afternoon for great outlet shopping. In the evenings we returned to the deck to grill for dinner. There was a great grill and everything we needed to grill out!
We had a wonderful time and would definitely rent here again!
My husband and I stayed here with our son for a long weekend this past summer. We had a great time! We were able to bring our boat and spend some quality time out on the river. There's a convenient boat launch just down the road from the house. We even made it all the way out to Sequin Island off the coast of Popham Beach and walked to the top of the lighthouse there. Beautiful!
The house was wonderful - bigger than we needed. Darren was there to meet us on our first day and show us around. He also had some great suggestions for local places to visit and places to get a bite to eat. He made us feel right at home. Definitely recommend this house!
There is a deep water mooring available and a boat launch less than a mile from the rental home.
