About Suzi Nakea

Nakea Kauai Vacation rentals offers three properties for rent, a one bedroom ocean bluff condo at Sealodge in Princeville (Kai Nani), a three bedroom beachfront home (Hale Kai) and a one bedroom beachfront cottage (Punana Aloha). The latter two are both located at the secluded end of incredible Anini Beach. All three properties are owned and lovingly cared for by Bob Nakea and his wife, Dotty. Bob is a native Hawaiian whose family's roots on Kauai go back to the 1800's, and Dotty is a mainland transplant who has been in the islands for over 48 years. No attention to detail on the properties is overlooked, and each home is furnished with the comfort of its guests foremost in mind.

**Sadly, Dotty passed on in 2009. Bob and their daughter Suzi, who was also born and raised in the islands, continue to care for these properties and their valued guests.

Suzi Nakea purchased this house in 1975

Why Suzi Nakea chose North Shore

In the North Shore's idyllic setting you can: swim, surf; sunbathe, scuba dive or snorkel, wind surf (with rental boards and lessons available at Anini Beach Park), go shore fishing, book a deep water charter; beach comb, go horseback riding at Princeville Stables, watch polo games at Anini Beach, hike the island's awesome trails, enjoy gourmet dining, work out at the Princeville Spa (featuring daily and weekly memberships giving access to the latest exercise equipment, large lap pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, and numerous aerobics, yoga, aqua -size and weight training classes), pamper yourself with a facial treatment or full body massage, whale watch, take a Na Pali Coast boat tour or a sunset sailing cruise in Hanalei Bay, book a helicopter tour of fabulous Waimea Canyon, play tennis, enjoy worldclass golfing (with discounts at Princeville's Makai and Prince courses), drive around the island and take in the sights, or just simply lie back and bask in the simple glory of being in one of earth's most naturally beautiful and peaceful places.

What makes this house unique

Hale Kai's location almost at the dead end of Anini Road, where there is only a single row of homes along the beach, means that our guests enjoy quiet and privacy not found along most of the rest of Anini. The protecting reef (one of the largest in Hawaii) assures that the waves break far out and not on the shore, and the calm shoreline and shallow waters make the area in front of the house ideal for swimming and snorkeling most of the year (except during periods of high winter surf). It is a wonderful beach for small children as it has a smooth sandy bottom (no holes to worry about!).

Anini Beach House

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this house located right on the beach. We LOVED it! The house is older but very comfortable, and did I say right on the beach? 40 steps!!

There are plenty of water friendly toys for use at the house. The snorkeling was awesome! A turtle rested on the shore two mornings in a row. We named him 'Frankie'. The trail leading up to Princeville is a short but adventurous hike.

The owner is a delight. We enjoyed visiting with her a couple of times and really look forward to staying there again! Moco-Loco's will be the first breakfast!

Bring Your Binoculars

  • 5 of 5

Hale Kai is a treasure of Anini. The second-story deck is the viewing platform to keep track of the neighborhood . From the humpback whales dancing on the reef to the western meadowlarks and shamas, cardinals and feral chickens, and more Kaua’i birds doing their thing in the yard, the show goes on every day. The citrus trees drop their largesse for your breakfast, and the beach is where you can find the same shells that the Niihauans use for their expensive jewelry. Plenty of tourist activity is available on the north shore, too. The Nakeas are readily available and responsive landlords. All the positive statements of other reviewers are true. Enjoy your stay—we did.

Wonderful stay at Hale Kai

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Suzi's place for a week in January and had a wonderful time. The house is perfectly situated at the end of a quiet road right on the beach. The large barrier reef keeps the waves calm and perfect for young kids. Ours never wanted to get out of the water. The house is nicely stocked with cookware and we made a number of delicious local seafood dinners. I'd highly recommend this home away from home.

Unforgettable Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My family of 6 (adults) stayed at Hale Kai for 7 magical days in October and we were so sad to leave on our last day! As one of the other reviewers wrote, Hale Kai changed the way we’ll plan our Hawaiian vacations forever. No more of the mega cookie-cutter resorts where you have to drive every day to a swimming beach lugging all your beach gear. The beach on this property is pretty much in the front yard! Needless to say we were out in the warm ocean practically every morning and afternoon. We appreciated the beach gear that the house provided: beach chairs, foam noodles, boards, floaters, etc. (we did bring our own snorkeling gear). The view from the balcony is unforgettable, the forest in the back calming. This is the tropics – so we saw lizards and spiders here and there (not a big deal), but the mosquitos can be bothersome. We just made sure that we’ve sprayed ourselves with mosquito repellant when we’re hanging out on the deck in the evenings. Of course, the house is fully screened so no worries when you’re inside. We were pleased with the layout of the living areas i.e. living, kitchen and dining rooms. We were able to spread out yet still be in conversation with everyone. The furnishings are what I would call “lived-in” – simple, comfortable and clean. The kitchen is roomy and has everything you need to cook, bake or clean. We found pots and pans, silverware, dining ware, serving platters, bowls, baking pans, cloth dish towels, plastic garbage bags, dishwashing liquid, cleaning spray, basic spices, etc. The weather was in the 80’s, a little warm than we expected, but the house is equipped with ceiling and floor fans in all areas so we were comfortable 24/7. The location of the house is on a quiet stretch of Anini Beach, hardly any tourists if at all. A minor inconvenience, which is not the owner’s fault, is the lack of cell phone service (there must not be any cell towers in the area). However the house provides for free Wi-Fi so we were never without internet, and had unlimited (domestic) use of the landline telephone. All in all, this was one of the best vacations my family has ever had and we definitely hope to come back soon!

A Home Away from Home

  • 5 of 5

The home was a perfect base camp for a family or group exploring the North Shore and for days when you just want to hang out at the Beach and practice your Paddle Boarding. The Nakea's thought of all the details a family would need - down to the BBQ and Hair dryer. Looking forward to coming back to this "Home Away from Home".

Very clean and well-cared for

  • 5 of 5

A very clean, well-cared for and peaceful home. Perfect for families who want easy access to the north shore of Kauai, which is generally placid in the summer. Good snorkeling up the road in the shallow waters off Anini Beach Park. We used the home as a base for our travels around the island--though we were always happy to come "home" to Hale Kai.
