About Suzi Nakea

Nakea Kauai Vacation rentals offers three properties for rent, a one bedroom ocean bluff condo at Sealodge in Princeville (Kai Nani), a three bedroom beachfront home (Hale Kai) and a one bedroom beachfront cottage (Punana Aloha). The latter two are both located at the secluded end of incredible Anini Beach. All three properties are owned and lovingly cared for by Bob Nakea and his wife, Dotty. Bob is a native Hawaiian whose family's roots on Kauai go back to the 1800's, and Dotty is a mainland transplant who has been in the islands for over 48 years. No attention to detail on the properties is overlooked, and each home is furnished with the comfort of its guests foremost in mind.

**Sadly, Dotty passed on in 2009. Bob and their daughter Suzi, who was also born and raised in the islands, continue to care for these properties and their valued guests.

Why Suzi Nakea chose Kilauea

In the North Shore's idyllic setting you can: swim, surf; sunbathe, scuba dive or snorkel, wind surf (with rental boards and lessons available at Anini Beach Park), go shore fishing, book a deep water charter; beach comb, go horseback riding at Princeville Stables, watch polo games at Anini Beach, hike the island's awesome trails, enjoy gourmet dining, work out at the Princeville Spa (featuring daily and weekly memberships giving access to the latest exercise equipment, large lap pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, and numerous aerobics, yoga, aqua -size and weight training classes), pamper yourself with a facial treatment or full body massage, whale watch, take a Na Pali Coast boat tour or a sunset sailing cruise in Hanalei Bay, book a helicopter tour of fabulous Waimea Canyon, play tennis, enjoy worldclass golfing (with discounts at Princeville's Makai and Prince courses), drive around the island and take in the sights, or just simply lie back and bask in the simple glory of being in one of earth's most naturally beautiful and peaceful places.

What makes this house unique

Hale Kai's location almost at the dead end of Anini Road, where there is only a single row of homes along the beach, means that our guests enjoy quiet and privacy not found along most of the rest of Anini. The protecting reef (one of the largest in Hawaii) assures that the waves break far out and not on the shore, and the calm shoreline and shallow waters make the area in front of the house ideal for swimming and snorkeling most of the year (except during periods of high winter surf). It is a wonderful beach for small children as it has a smooth sandy bottom (no holes to worry about!).

Awesome spot

  • 5 of 5

This spot is exactly as described: clean, unpretentious, quiet, and right on Anini Beach. We loved hearing the lapping of the waves through our open windows at night! The large layout was perfect for two couples and one adult son. Due to the distance from town, we recommend that you plan your shopping in advance and get it done on the way out of the airport. That way, you can settle in to your quiet little piece of paradise without making multiple trips.

It's a medium-easy hike to Princeville, and a 20-minute drive to Tunnels for snorkeling, which we highly recommend. On the days we snorkeled at Anini in front of the house, we saw turtles, eels, and a variety of fish. On excursion days, we had a blast doing the zipline at Princeville Ranch, and the Napali snorkel tour with HoloHolo Charters.

The owners were very responsive to our requests (the housekeeper had forgotten to make the twins into a king bed, but she came right over and fixed that when we called).

If you are looking for a relaxed, quiet place to destress, and you want a safe yard and great swimming/snorkeling beach for all ages, this is the spot. We hope to return some day!

A Slice of Heaven on Earth

  • 5 of 5

We are a small band of 6 Ladies from Nor Cal and have been coming to the North Shore for about 6 years, each time a different home. FLOATING WOMAN 2017 could not have been in a better spot! The Home, The peacefulness,.The ocean and reef, we rented a SUP and saw many fish and turtles snorkeling and floating. Water was so clear you could see fish without even snorkeling! The big problem about our trip was the time went by too fast! I will hold very dear this memory of Anini Beach. MAHALO & ALOHA NIU LOA Till next time!!!!!

Anini Beach House

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Hale Kai!! The house is the perfect beach house with great views.

The second floor deck is great to view the beach right across a dirt road.

You could throw a ball in the water from the deck. House is well stocked both with appliances / dishes beach items. Sunsets were fantastic!!

We had Yumi Teraguchi www.yumisyummies.com in to cook us a healthy dinner.

This was a great experience.

Gavin Gillete gave surfing lessons to our kids that was the highlight of the trip!

Anini Beach House

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this house located right on the beach. We LOVED it! The house is older but very comfortable, and did I say right on the beach? 40 steps!!

There are plenty of water friendly toys for use at the house. The snorkeling was awesome! A turtle rested on the shore two mornings in a row. We named him 'Frankie'. The trail leading up to Princeville is a short but adventurous hike.

The owner is a delight. We enjoyed visiting with her a couple of times and really look forward to staying there again! Moco-Loco's will be the first breakfast!

Bring Your Binoculars

  • 5 of 5

Hale Kai is a treasure of Anini. The second-story deck is the viewing platform to keep track of the neighborhood . From the humpback whales dancing on the reef to the western meadowlarks and shamas, cardinals and feral chickens, and more Kaua’i birds doing their thing in the yard, the show goes on every day. The citrus trees drop their largesse for your breakfast, and the beach is where you can find the same shells that the Niihauans use for their expensive jewelry. Plenty of tourist activity is available on the north shore, too. The Nakeas are readily available and responsive landlords. All the positive statements of other reviewers are true. Enjoy your stay—we did.

Wonderful stay at Hale Kai

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed at Suzi's place for a week in January and had a wonderful time. The house is perfectly situated at the end of a quiet road right on the beach. The large barrier reef keeps the waves calm and perfect for young kids. Ours never wanted to get out of the water. The house is nicely stocked with cookware and we made a number of delicious local seafood dinners. I'd highly recommend this home away from home.
