Nakea Kauai Vacation rentals offers three properties for rent, a one bedroom ocean bluff condo at Sealodge in Princeville (Kai Nani), a three bedroom beachfront home (Hale Kai) and a one bedroom beachfront cottage (Punana Aloha). The latter two are both located at the secluded end of incredible Anini Beach. All three properties are owned and lovingly cared for by Bob Nakea and his wife, Dotty. Bob is a native Hawaiian whose family's roots on Kauai go back to the 1800's, and Dotty is a mainland transplant who has been in the islands for over 48 years. No attention to detail on the properties is overlooked, and each home is furnished with the comfort of its guests foremost in mind.
**Sadly, Dotty passed on in 2009. Bob and their daughter Suzi, who was also born and raised in the islands, continue to care for these properties and their valued guests.
Suzi Nakea purchased this house in 1975
In the North Shore's idyllic setting you can: swim, surf; sunbathe, scuba dive or snorkel, wind surf (with rental boards and lessons available at Anini Beach Park), go shore fishing, book a deep water charter; beach comb, go horseback riding at Princeville Stables, watch polo games at Anini Beach, hike the island's awesome trails, enjoy gourmet dining, work out at the Princeville Spa (featuring daily and weekly memberships giving access to the latest exercise equipment, large lap pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, and numerous aerobics, yoga, aqua -size and weight training classes), pamper yourself with a facial treatment or full body massage, whale watch, take a Na Pali Coast boat tour or a sunset sailing cruise in Hanalei Bay, book a helicopter tour of fabulous Waimea Canyon, play tennis, enjoy worldclass golfing (with discounts at Princeville's Makai and Prince courses), drive around the island and take in the sights, or just simply lie back and bask in the simple glory of being in one of earth's most naturally beautiful and peaceful places.
Hale Kai's location almost at the dead end of Anini Road, where there is only a single row of homes along the beach, means that our guests enjoy quiet and privacy not found along most of the rest of Anini. The protecting reef (one of the largest in Hawaii) assures that the waves break far out and not on the shore, and the calm shoreline and shallow waters make the area in front of the house ideal for swimming and snorkeling most of the year (except during periods of high winter surf). It is a wonderful beach for small children as it has a smooth sandy bottom (no holes to worry about!).

My family of 6 (adults) stayed at Hale Kai for 7 magical days in October and we were so sad to leave on our last day! As one of the other reviewers wrote, Hale Kai changed the way we’ll plan our Hawaiian vacations forever. No more of the mega cookie-cutter resorts where you have to drive every day to a swimming beach lugging all your beach gear. The beach on this property is pretty much in the front yard! Needless to say we were out in the warm ocean practically every morning and afternoon. We appreciated the beach gear that the house provided: beach chairs, foam noodles, boards, floaters, etc. (we did bring our own snorkeling gear). The view from the balcony is unforgettable, the forest in the back calming. This is the tropics – so we saw lizards and spiders here and there (not a big deal), but the mosquitos can be bothersome. We just made sure that we’ve sprayed ourselves with mosquito repellant when we’re hanging out on the deck in the evenings. Of course, the house is fully screened so no worries when you’re inside. We were pleased with the layout of the living areas i.e. living, kitchen and dining rooms. We were able to spread out yet still be in conversation with everyone. The furnishings are what I would call “lived-in” – simple, comfortable and clean. The kitchen is roomy and has everything you need to cook, bake or clean. We found pots and pans, silverware, dining ware, serving platters, bowls, baking pans, cloth dish towels, plastic garbage bags, dishwashing liquid, cleaning spray, basic spices, etc. The weather was in the 80’s, a little warm than we expected, but the house is equipped with ceiling and floor fans in all areas so we were comfortable 24/7. The location of the house is on a quiet stretch of Anini Beach, hardly any tourists if at all. A minor inconvenience, which is not the owner’s fault, is the lack of cell phone service (there must not be any cell towers in the area). However the house provides for free Wi-Fi so we were never without internet, and had unlimited (domestic) use of the landline telephone. All in all, this was one of the best vacations my family has ever had and we definitely hope to come back soon!
The home was a perfect base camp for a family or group exploring the North Shore and for days when you just want to hang out at the Beach and practice your Paddle Boarding. The Nakea's thought of all the details a family would need - down to the BBQ and Hair dryer. Looking forward to coming back to this "Home Away from Home".
A very clean, well-cared for and peaceful home. Perfect for families who want easy access to the north shore of Kauai, which is generally placid in the summer. Good snorkeling up the road in the shallow waters off Anini Beach Park. We used the home as a base for our travels around the island--though we were always happy to come "home" to Hale Kai.
If you're looking for a nice quite place for a vacation, this is it..! Situated at the end of Anni rd. results in very little traffic or people in the area. The yard and views around the house are beautiful, and with the beach just across the yard it makes this place perfect....!! The house is very comfortable, and we had all our meals out on the table on the deck overlooking the beautiful beach. Being able to walk across the yard and go snorkeling anytime I wanted was a huge plus. We were very sad to leave, was a fantastic vacation spot, we hope to return soon..
With two little kids, we often find ourselves searching for a vacation that makes us happy and that keeps our kids happy as well. Hale Kai was it. We absolutely loved our stay. We spent a good deal of time at the beach across the street, which was perfect for swimming, fishing, SUP, and lounging. We'd simply head back to the house for meals, etc. The surroundings are really serene. It was a paradise we were sad to leave. And, the owners are very responsive and helpful - made our stay even more enjoyable.
The Nakea house is perfect for you if you want a quiet getaway on a secluded beach. There are little tourists here and most of the ones that are here are your neighbors. The house is on a 1 mile stretch of Anini Beach with probably only a few dozen homes. There is no one between you and the beach (there is a road that separates the beach from the house but it is only about 10 feet wide and is more like a private drive that you and your neighbors share). The water in front of the house is super calm as the reef breaks up any waves—this is great for children. The house itself is well taken care of, clean and well-appointed.
