Punana Aloha, which means 'Love Nest' in Hawaiian, is a one-bedroom, one-bath hideaway on incomparable Anini Beach. Constructed of natural cedar throughout and boasting a wood-burning fireplace, the cottage is the perfect choice for a vacation to simply 'get away from it all.' Restricted to a maximum of two guests, the cottage is ideal for honeymoons or anniversaries.

Located on Kauai's verdant North Shore, Anini Beach is a haven for the traveler who wants to experience the unspoiled natural beauty of Hawaii. Protected by a large outer reef, the quiet waters of Anini are perfect for swimming, snorkeling, fishing, kayaking, windsurfing, and sunning. Follow Anini Road almost to the spot where it dead ends at Anini Stream and you will find Punana Aloha on a beautifully landscaped half acre of land fronting the ocean. The ocean view is unobstructed, and your toes will touch the sand of the beach less than 75 yards from the front door.

Features include 896 square feet of living area with two covered lanais, two reclining chairs in living room, built-in desk/office area, daybed, comfortable king-sized bed in bedroom, full bathroom with tub/shower, ceiling fans, washer and dryer, telephones, large charcoal barbeque/smoker, chaise lounges, and beach chairs.

The fully-equipped kitchen contains solid oak cabinets with a large pantry, a four-burner gas range with oven, 20' refrigerator with ice maker, dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, six-foot bar/serving counter/cooking island, coffee maker, rice cooker/steamer, toaster, blender, mixer, etc.

There is a cordless phone in the kitchen area, and one more in the bedroom. The kitchen phone also has an answering machine.

About Suzi Nakea

Nakea Kauai Vacation rentals offers three properties for rent, a one bedroom ocean bluff condo at Sealodge in Princeville (Kai Nani), a three bedroom beachfront home (Hale Kai) and a one bedroom beachfront cottage (Punana Aloha). The latter two are both located at the secluded end of incredible Anini Beach. All three properties are owned and lovingly cared for by Bob Nakea and his wife, Dotty. Bob is a native Hawaiian whose family's roots on Kauai go back to the 1800's, and Dotty is a mainland transplant who has been in the islands for over 48 years. No attention to detail on the properties is overlooked, and each home is furnished with the comfort of its guests foremost in mind.

** In 2009, Dotty passed on, but Bob and their daughter Suzi, who was also born and raised in the islands, continue to care for these properties and their valued guests.

Suzi Nakea purchased this house in 1980

Why Suzi Nakea chose Kilauea

In the North Shore's idyllic setting you can: swim, surf; sunbathe, scuba dive or snorkel, wind surf (with rental boards and lessons available at Anini Beach Park), go shore fishing, book a deep water charter; beach comb, go horseback riding at nearby stables, hike the island's awesome trails, enjoy gourmet dining, work out at the Princeville Spa (featuring daily and weekly memberships giving access to the latest exercise equipment, large lap pool, Jacuzzi, wet and dry saunas, and numerous aerobics, yoga, aqua -size and weight training classes), pamper yourself with a facial treatment or full body massage, whale watch, take a Na Pali Coast boat tour or a sunset sailing cruise in Hanalei Bay, book a helicopter tour of fabulous Waimea Canyon, play tennis, enjoy worldclass golfing, drive around the island and take in the sights, or just simply lie back and bask in the simple glory of being in one of earth's most naturally beautiful and peaceful places. We will be happy to assist you in your activity planning. Just let us know what you would like to do!

What makes this house unique

Punana Aloha's location almost at the dead end of Anini Road, where there is only a single row of homes along the beach, means that our guests enjoy quiet and privacy not found along most of the rest of Anini . The protecting reef (one of the largest in Hawaii) assures that the waves break far out and not on the shore, and the calm shoreline and shallow waters make the area in front of the house ideal for swimming and snorkeling most of the year (except during periods of high winter surf).

A Little Hidden Gem

  • 5 of 5

I almost don't want to do this review and let others know of this hidden gem on the north side of Kauai. Looking for a beautiful, quiet beachfront property where the loudest noises are the many types of birds that live here? This is a beautiful quiet beach, with a large reef resulting in a calm waterfront, which you can see constantly from the large front window of the cottage. This is a place to go and not feel the urge that you must do something-just being here is enough!

Exceptional

We visit the island of Kauai annually...... and this was one of the best areas/cottages to stay. If you are looking for tranquilly, gorgeousness, no-need-to-go-elsewhere type of property - then this is it. It had everything we needed and was stocked with all the kitchen essentials. We so appreciated the snorkel gear, beach chairs and cooler. Spent time on the beach reading/relaxing and swimming right out front the house. Yet at the same time, so very close to all of the things we loved to do near the North Shores (hiking especially). Also close for us to put the kayaks on the car and go off to a few rivers for other great adventures. A quiet and safe location -even though over the holiday weekend for Labor Day lots of local families came to camp and fish at Anini.... the house was quiet. We rented kayaks for the week and kayaked daily along Anini - especially at sunrise/sunset - with unbelievable visibility to watch the fish and turtles. About 1/2 mile around the bend towards Princeville by kayak we found an ideal secluded little stretch of beach, with a lovely shade tree --- the snorkeling was tremendous there and was great for reading and having a picnic lunch. Had one day of seeing over a half dozen turtles of which one large one let us follow him for about 15 minutes. The cottage allowed us to prepare our own spectacular meals daily - fresh fish at Dolphin is close by and Kauai grass-fed beef at the grocery store in Hanalei. Not to mention all of the fresh veges/fruit from the Farmers' Markets. Also close by for us to put the kayaks on the car and go off to a couple of rivers for other great adventures. This cottage was ideal for us and I recommend highly. We will return! THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH Nakeas

Just a nice, quiet cottage with a private yard and a mere few steps from the beautiful beach. This was our second stay and we hope to make it a third.

Bill and Michelle in the Spirit of Aloha

  • 5 of 5

We love the North Shore of Kauai, especially Punana Aloha Cottage at the North-end of Anini Beach. We have stayed several weeks in this cottage on the beach for the past three years (and plan to do so in the future); it is an ideal spot to find the true Spirit of Aloha that Kauai offers: (1) base for exploring the island (especially Na Pali coast, Ha'ena, Hanalei, Princeville, Kilauea, Moloa'a and associated beaches), (2) superior place - out front - for SUP (stand up paddling and surfing), swimming and snorkeling (we spent time in the water and saw green sea turtles every day - out near reef and close in-shore), (3) peace and quiet for personal reflection (and writing), (4) visiting with nearby locals (especially Uncle Bob Nakea) and emersing in Hawaiian culture, (5) great kitchen for cooking-in (plus BBQ), and (6) wonderful setting and lush garden. The Nakeas are consummate and responsive hosts, sharing their historic property with island guests. The wifi and land-line phone with free service to the Mainland is a plus (actually a total blessing), as cell service is very spotty. In the end, we could not be more satisfied and recommend Punana Aloha Cottage whole-heartedly!
