I have lived my entire life on the North Olympic Peninsula. I am very fortunate to live here and it is a beautiful place to visit. I have three adult children who still love to spend time and enjoy the waters of Lake Sutherland. I work and live in Port Angeles, but try to spend some weekends escaping life's demands by relaxing at the lake. I have a sign at the cabin that reads, 'If you are lucky enough to live on the water, you are lucky enough'. That says it all!
Tammy Wooldridge purchased this cabin in 2003
Lake Sutherland is a prime piece of property on the North Olympic Peninsula. This cabin was bought in 2003 and fully remodeled in 2004 - 2005. There is a public boat launch on the south shore side of the lake. This location is 10 minutes away from the Olympic National Park, 40 minutes from Forks, WA., home of Twilight books and movies and a ferry ride to British Columbia, Canada.
Fishing, boating, kayaking, tubing, skiing, bird watching, hunting, family time.
I don't hand out high ratings if not deserved, but the cabin was better and larger than expected. The pictures don't do the living room size justice. Yes, the rooms are a little cramped but it's a cabin, not a full sized house. Great location, but note that there is a very short, yet steep, trail hike required to get to the home, and no private parking . Aside from that, it's private and comes with everything you will need. Save some packing, because Tammy provided wood to burn, a kayak, cable TV, wifi internet, plates, utensils, towels, fresh and nice new sheets/pillows, and basically everything but food. We didn't meet but she had one of those realtor locks on the door so you put in a code and the key pops out. She responds to all texts and was very accommodating. I almost feel bad leaving a 5-star review because it means it might be harder for me to reserve the place next time if it gets too much praise, lol.
We were on our 20th anniversary and it was a great place to celebrate! Tammy was great to work with and the cabin had everything we could need! You'll get your exercise with the stairs but we needed it!
Thanks again Tammy!
My husband and I stayed for a long weekend at the Cozy Cabin, and we wished we had stayed longer! The cabin itself is cute, open floor plan with great views of the lake right outside. The decks are great, with all the layers there are options for where you want to sit and have morning coffee right on the lake! Everything you needed was provided and the bed was very comfortable. Everything was clean and cozy, perfect for the rainy weather and having a fire in the wood stove.
I couldn't have been more impressed with the lake and the beautiful view, until we saw 3-4 bald eagles flying around the lake right outside the cabin! It was amazing.
The cabin is close to a lot in the Olympic National Park, and close to Port Angels. It is directly on Hwy101, but the road noise was not even an issue. We went in the fall, late October, and there was hardly anyone else around! It was very peaceful and quiet.
As in other reviews, I will emphasize that the steps to the cabin are quite considerable, and you will get your exercise going up to the car parking area. We didn't mind them but if you have a lot of stuff with a few trips up and down it will be some work!
Over all we would definitely go back, and would love to see the lake in the summer too! Thanks Tammy, for the wonderful opportunity to stay at your Cozy Cabin!
This little cottage is the perfect getaway for a quiet, peaceful stay in the Olympic National Park. Tammy the owner is very responsive to emails and inquiries and the cottage is very clean with fresh linens, plenty of towels, and lots of dishware. The cottage has some "quirks" that may not appeal to everyone: the (small) shower stall that has a rock exterior and tiled interior, but has no door covering so if the shower head is positioned a certain way the spray goes out onto the bathroom floor. The cottage floor also has a definite slope downhill towards the lake. As far as accessibility, there are a number of steps down from the street parking to the cottage - it is not for individuals who may be a little unsteady on their feet or who can't handle steps down and up to the car.
The dock is clean and has a ladder which makes it easy to get into the lake to swim. We spent a lot of time watching the water and relaxing.
We bought groceries in Port Angeles and used the gas grill for some steaks. We also visited Granny's Cafe about a mile down the street and had a delicious burger, chili, and a blackberry shake. Granny's is known for their yummy soft-serve ice cream. After summer they shorten their hours so be sure to check when they're open.
We used the cottage as a base for going to Hurricane Ridge and Lake Crescent. We enjoyed taking a few hikes while we were in the Olympic National Park.
Overall I would recommend this cottage for a couple who are looking to explore the northern end of the ONP and who would like a quiet place to unwind and relax.
Surroundings: Incredible. The cottage is on a clear teal lake with mountains surrounding it and reflecting into the water. Truly gorgeous with a great view from the top deck, table and chairs half-way down, and the dock. We enjoyed the kayak and took it around the whole lake (1.5-2 hours). It was fun to check out the other homes on the lake while kayaking as they are very unique. Very cool spot!
Location: Great for visiting Olympic National Park. Not far from the Hoh Rain forest, Hurricane Ridge, Crescent Lake, and other hot spots that we planned to visit. There's a small general store nearby that was pretty limited and there are normal/large grocery stores in Port Angeles fairly close.
The cottage: Comfortable bed, full kitchen, grill (which we used 3 times while there, nice to have), tv/internet, lots of outdoor seating (as above). Very comfy and couldn't have asked for much more. I think others already mentioned the water pressure in the kitchen sink is weak, also the burn ban was unfortunate as we could not have a fire outside in the summer per the fire department.
We had no problems so did not need to contact Tammy while we were there. Her instructions for finding it and getting in were clear.
Overall: Five stars all the way! Enjoy your stay at Lake Sutherland :)
The is adorable. All the extra touches are there to make it cozy, comfortable and practical. It is small but has everything you might need in the kitchen and living areas. The views of the lake through every window are so relaxing. The dock is so nice and it was so nice to have the use of a kayak, life jackets, fishing poles and lounge chairs.
Lake Sutherland is so warm and clear.
A real gem!
We stayed here for our mini honeymoon and it was perfect! Peaceful, gorgeous, and the cabin supplies anything you need. The location is the perfect jump off point to travel around the ONP or just relax on the lake.
