Experience the beauty and charm of the Southwest nestled into Boulder Ridge Mountain Range, Sunset Mountain Casitas are overlooking the lights of the Valley of the Sun. Relax above the hustle and bustle of city life, with all of its conveniences just minutes away. We are dedicated to making your stay memorable, comfortable and fun, insuring your Arizona vacation is one that you will repeat. Take a safe, short journey upward through the mountainous terrain into the natural setting. These vacation homes are fully furnished and located near shopping centers, golf courses, and the quaint town of Cave Creek & Carefree. This area the homes were built in the mid 70's, we have updated them with themes and they are now unique and offer tremendous views and awesome sunsets within the Metro area. We are featuring one house The Ranchero, that also has a guest house, available for a separate charge. Sit around a fire or in the spa overlooking the city lights at any Casita. If you need additional space the Parlor, a 1890's western decor house could be available, can be rented alone or together with Ranchero. It is connected by a outdoor stairway. Repeat customers are many, so I know you won't disappointed. Private trails too!

Sunset Mountain Casitas: These dwelling are nestled into a lush desert mountain environment and offers fantastic views of the valley below. ****Casita Ranchero**** Sleeps 4 or 6 (pull out couch) with approximately 1200 sq. ft. of furnished living space. Guest house, The Parlor approx. 600 sq ft, sleeps two with additional fee for that house. This two bedroom provides a king size bed in the 2 bedrooms, a pull out couch in the livingroom. The Ranchero is handicap accessible with handicap bathroom. Both bedrooms have a private bath. An additional 1/2 is off the hallway. The Parlor is a wonderful, unique, western 1890's parlor with a king size bed. This is a studio unit. Additional features on all Casitas are BBQ Grills, firepit or Chimenea and patio with panoramic views. Enjoy the decks with private, secluded spa overlooking the valley below! Private trails around and throughout our mountain for a little exercise. A full kitchen with every convenience. This house can provide a perfect setting for 3 couples or a large family, or bring along your in-laws! Enjoy a private setting and convenient to freeways & activities! For more Information just ask!

Activities: Several public golf courses close by. Shopping at malls indoor and outdoor or the quaint town of Cave Creek just minutes away. Swimming in public pool during the summer about 15 minutes from Casita. Sking in the summer and boating at the several lakes is about 20 minutes. Winter sking in Flagstaff. Visit the wonderful towns of Prescott (1 1/4 hour), Jerome (2 hrs), Sedona (11/2 hrs), Flagstaff (2 hrs). Any of those a great day trip. Even the Grand Canyon, you are on the right side of Phoenix for all visits to great places in Arizona. Bring your hiking shoes for our own private trails entering from each casita and all through the mountain.

Wedding Getaway

We were in town for a wedding and stayed at Fran's place. Check in was smooth and views were amazing. We had everything we needed when checking in and communicating was a breeze. I would stay here again!

We had the most amazingly relaxing time at The Ranchero! What a cool place…such attention to detail with the unique decor - we loved it! And the views from the hot tub at night (and during the day!) - spectacular!!! Close to lots of great hiking and spring trading stadiums…we had everything we needed for a lovely long weekend! Had a blast and would love to stay again.

UNIQUE - PRIVATE - SPECTACULAR VIEW

The Margarita was perfect for us. Loved the privacy, view and especially our own private sundown hot tub. The spacious deck was perfect for meals and the 100 Scrabble matches we played during our 2 month visit. Thank you to Fran, Kent and Aaron our spa guy. A pleasure

This place was perfect for my business trip to Phoenix. Much more comfortable and scenic than a hotel. The drive downtown is fast and only about 15 minutes. The view is awesome and the porch gives the place a panoramic view. Fran was very easy to deal with and accommodating. Thanks!

Wonderful, quirky place!

If you want a cookie cutter place to stay this isn’t it. If you want something unique and unusual this is for you. For example, there is a huge rock in the corner of the bedroom. The hosts were wonderful, the view is fabulous, and the place is comfortable and cozy. It was quiet and secluded and just what we needed for our stay. Be advised, the driveway is very steep and if that freaks you out a bit you have been forewarned.

Stunning Views/Very peaceful

The pictures of the view do not do them justice. Windows on three sides of the living/kitchen take in breath-taking views at all times of the day and night. The sunsets are more than you can imagine. This home is located on the top of a hill and so private and peaceful. You will not find a nicer warmer landlord than Fran. We will definitely make this our home away from home any time we are in the Phoenix areas

Great weekend get away!

The house is soooo cute! It was clean but could use a good deep clean for cobwebs, esp the bathroom with the round shower. Loved the house, so cute! A few things that could be worked on, light bulbs brighter, upgrade the pillows and the bathroom with the round shower, the toilet is SUPER loud, since there's no bathroom door, it might be a good idea to replace the toilet. It is a little confusing when you're trying to get there, so maybe a sign clearly identifying the house would help. Overall, we had a great time!!!!!

Thank you Cheryl for your suggestions. It has been very busy, so the deep cleaning is scheduled for April, when we don't have people in and out in the same day. The round shower is made that way so a wheelchair can get in. It is actually a handicap bathroom, we created when a friend of ours with MS wanted to come and stay from Nebraska but needtg a handicap bathroom. So we made that bathroom for him and others who need it.

Very disappointed, Poor cleaning, 65% of the light bulbs did not work.

Furniture & carpet were filthy dirty. Three different ceiling leaks. Several uncovered electric plates(had toddlers) ended up with bug bit's during our stay. We ended up buying cleaning supplies & bug spray just so we can continue our stay. Due to Christmas there were not alot of options. Beautiful view. I get the Southwest look however needs a lot of cleaning & TLC. Not recommended!

I am quite shocked by this review. We were in contact with this guest the day they checked in and the following day as the guest requested a wifi and my husband brought one over to him, said everything was fine and he never mentioned anything. We always ask before anyone checks in to let us know if there are any concerns. The furniture and carpet is not filthy, I can't imagine anyone else would not mention this as our houses are rented continuingly. However, it is true, we had a huge rain and there was a water leak, above a window, actually just had the whole roof replaced and the roofing company was waiting for it to rain again,to see if the leaks were fixed. It doesn't rain very often in Phoenix. I am sorry this guest did not talk to us about his concerns, we do everything we can to maintain our 5 star rating. It appears they enjoyed themselves, as there was over 100 bottles of empty beer bottles left. Which is fine, we stive for our guest to be happy and work to always improve and to maintain our high rating.

Super fun

We were there with a group of girlfriends for a 40th birthday celebration. The photos of the house don’t do it justice. It seems much bigger and brighter in person. It’s a very unique property with tons of outdoor space and seating areas. We had a ton of fun and loved it here. The hot tub was an added bonus! A couple things to note - the road up to the house is very, very steep, and the turn-around is tricky and takes some getting used to. We were all surprised it wasn’t mentioned in the summary. Uber would not come to the house bc of the steepness so we had to walk down and up the hill every time. Also, both bedrooms have bathrooms with no doors but there is a separate half bath in the hallway with a closing door for privacy. Overall we had a perfect time here and loved it.

Thank you for choosing us for your get away, I am so glad you enjoyed yourselves! It is mentioned that our houses are on a mountain which entails driving up, to get to them. Here is what is advertised in our property descriptions. "Take a safe, short journey upward through the mountainous terrain into the natural setting. These dwelling are nestled into a lush desert mountain environment and offers fantastic views of the valley below." But I can be more descriptive. Also just to note to readers, there are doors on the two bedrooms, but no doors from the bedroom to the bathroom. In the Phoenix area it is quite common for open bedrooms to the bathroom without doors, especially in the newer homes. Coming from Nebraska and being a realtor I was use to master bedrooms that have bathroom doors too. In this house in one bedroom we especially wanted that way so it was handicap accessible. Being a realtor here I remember years ago finding that different then back home. About Uber, I am surprised about, because people fly in and Uber drops them off at the house and food is delivered often at our houses. Mountain properties do have some limitations. Thanks again for your input and staying with us. Please come back!

We are puzzled by the very good to excellent reviews as we have much to say to the contrary. May be we were not lucky and the house was not cleaned before our arrival, because we found it frankly dirty. Besides the linen was really below standard.The house had not two bathrooms as advertised but one, opening up to the master bedroom. The other was jus a small toilet, so the only real bathroom was to be shared for washing and having no door to the master bedroom left indeed no privacy. The kitchen was very poorly equipped... The one redeeming factor were the sunsets...

I am truely sorry with your disappointment in the Ranchero. Yours is the first negitive comment we have ever received with over 300 visitors since we joined HomeAway a few years ago. In response to the amount of bathrooms, It states that the Ranchero has 1 1/2 baths. Most people are aware of what a 1/2 bath consist of, a toilet and a sink. The Master bedroom does have a door on it, however the master bathroom is somewhat open to the master bedroom. In regards to the kitchen - The kitchen is supplied with a full size refrigerator, dishwasher, garbage disposal, stove/oven/ microwave, full serving dishes and silverware for more then 6. Around 10 glasses, 10 coffee cups. Probably 15 wine, Margarita glasses. Full set of pots and pans. 2 coffee pots, toaster, blender, iron, vaccum, washer and dryer.Tubberware like food storage, teapot, Broiler pan, mixing bowls, measuring cups, crock pot, I think a pop corn popper, cooking utensils, and I would imagine several other items I have forgotten. We supply no food or drinks, but there are few seasonings. Oh also a BBQ. We live on the same mountain and I always tell my people if they need anything to please let us know. I believe we do everything we can to make you comfortable and to enjoy your stay at Sunset Mountain Casitas. I actually spoke to one of your guest staying there and ask how everything was and he said" just fine". As far as the linens, I have actually had compliments on our linens. We did have in the 2nd bedroom flannel sheets with horse design, to try and complenment the decor, maybe you do not like the flannel we use in the cooler weather. , Lastly about the cleaning. I strongely disagreeI I know you had several people staying at the two bedroom Ranchero, (up to 6 allowed) I believe around 8 adults and several children, coming in and out the only possible thing is the fact that we are in Arizona, on a mountain, a rock quarry is very close. If you were hiking on our dirt trails or with a little wind and being on the mountain you can dust and a few hours later it is dusty again. This can be verified by most Arizonans. I once again apologize and hope that you will give us another chance if you are in the area. Sincerely, Fran and Kent Titze

Over priced and under whelmed!

Needed to leave early for a sick loved one and the Covid-19 virus outbreak and Manager would not give back any money back for 3 unused nights, but did offer 1 free night stay next time we booked with them. We had to take care of several leaks and all they could say about them was " I hope this doesn't inconvenience you too much. " The house smelt like wet dog and piss so we bought air fresheners that didn't work too well. Only half the Jets worked in the hot tub. We asked where the garbage cans were and while we were gone got a notification that they went into the house and took care it. No curtains so the sun would just shine into the bedrooms. We have used VRBO several times and all the places we have stayed in had shampoo, conditioner and body wash. The house would also have a little laundry soap to wash towels. This property had nothing. We would never stay here again and would recommend this property.

It is true, I did ask Frosty that if it rained to place a pot under the spot that was leaking on an end table, if it rained. This was detected right before he moved in. I didn’t realize it would be such a large imposition. As I think most people would agree, repairing the roof we felt would be better after no one was scheduled in the house. All though we do have a strict refund policy, I thought it would be nice to offer a free night to them since they left early, they were there for over a week, it appears they didn’t appreciate the gesture. It is funny about the window covering because there are wood blinds on the window in one bedroom and there is no window in the other bedroom. It was removed when we added a large bathroom. There was a pod for laundry left in the laundry area they didn't use., maybe they were looking for liquid? Also we always provide bar soap, not body wash. To change the pressure or open the jets in the hot tub you do have to manually turn the jets. The people who checked in right after them, left a 5 star rating they liked it so much they stayed longer. We are very attentive owners and we are 2 minutes away and someone is always available for our guests. Below is our conversation with him. Fun Southwestern getaway!

I was looking for a home with a southwestern feel for my family's first visit to Arizona and came across this gem. Resting on a mountain side, the views offered here are wonderful for being surrounded by city scape. We arrived after a 20 min drive from Sky Harbour and were able to take in the sunset and then view the stars from the hot tub. Two king size beds offered enough space for the four of us and the two couches allowed us to enjoy each others company comfortably. The kitchen was stocked with almost everything that we needed to prepare meals. One of the two showers worked perfectly, but the other wouldn't provide warm water. The subdivision below was a great area to go for a jog as traffic was light. There are some walking paths on the mountainside that you can explore as well. Parking in the driveway can be a bit tricky. We found that pulling up the hill and past the driveway and then backing in worked best. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay but would loved to see a couple of improvements. First, there is no internet provided. This amenity has become a standard to most of us and would have made using our laptops much easier. Second, the TVs are outdated. Having a couple smart TVs would allow visitors to stream their favorite movies and shows. Finally, Having an updated guidebook of things to do, places to visit, locations of nearby restaurants and stores, tips on how best to utilize the home and trouble shoot problems, etc. There was a book that was kind of hidden under a side table but it was a bit outdated and not very thorough. My family and I enjoyed our stay and look forward to visiting again!

Thank you for choosing us to stay for your visit to Phoenix! We do provide a Verizon hot spot, that I believe is mentioned in this website, I will check that. No one has mentioned no hot water in one of the showers but we will check that out right away. We would have come over right away to take a look at that, maybe and adjustment, or maybe a faucet issue? As far as a smart tv. We have pondered that question. To upgrade to smart tv's and take out dish network and just let people stream what they want to watch. But I question rather the majority would want to do that. But I need to educate myself more on that option, my age is showing through. Thank you for your thoughts!

Just what we needed

Every aspect of our stay was wonderful. On work trips we always look for a retreat, somewhere unique that we can come "home" to. This was perfect. Not to mention the sunset was beautiful from the porch. Fran was more than accommodating and worked with us to make it happen. THANKS FRAN!!

Awesome time!

We were in Phoenix for Arizona bike week. Not only was the rental awesome, it was central to where we wanted to go. We had a small issue with parking our motorcycles but it was quickly resolved with communication with Fran. We will stay again in the future and recommend y’all do too!

Amazing views!

The view from the Ranchero is AMAZING! We really enjoyed our stay and the great views. The road up to the house is very narrow and steep, but worth it for the house. We found the house to be clean and mostly well stocked (only a few things that we would have liked to have available, like a knife that wasn’t a steak knife). But we felt very comfortable and otherwise had everything we needed. Fran was very communicative and responsive. We would definitely stay here again!

Cowboy kitsch is fine, but it needs updating. Would it kill the budget to put in curtains? Where do you even find toilet paper that thin and stiff? Overall: cheap, as in chintzy.

Kent and I are from Nebraska and are Husker Fans. Kent is a Horticulturalist and I am a Realtor with Realty One Group. We own Horticultural Frontiers Landscape and Design in Phoenix. Kent has been in Phoenix since 1984 and I have since 2002. We knew each other in High School and reconnect at a class reunion and got married in 2003!

We bought our 4 properties one at a time starting in 2004, with the one bedroom Mirage, the view made the decision easy and as the other houses became available we purchased them. It is convenient with each house above the other. We also live on the mountain so we are just minutes away if our guest need us. Kent's mom and son and his family also are on the mountain, so we are very protective and proud of our little place in the world.

O que faz essa propriedade ser única?

Besides "The Ranchero" we have "The Mirage" which we purchased first. We thought we could fix it up and sell or rent it but after doing so we fell in love with the house and the view and decided to do short term vacation rental. We loved the theme idea so as we acquired each house and we decided to not only have the decor match the theme but even the permanent fixtures! "The Margarita" the top house is a one bedroom, it is the 3rd highest house in Phoenix, so fantastic views. Everyone loves the houses, views and the themes. One of the benefits for us is when friends and family come to visit they have a nice place to stay. Also a benefit is we have made friends with a few of the people who come to visit every year. We have one person who will be coming for their 5th anniversary at Sunset Mountain. I love all our houses and can't decide which I like best. The last house we completed is "The Parlor", it is very unique! Located just below the Ranchero and has the option of use as additional space if needed for the Ranchero, although completely separate and private for its own quests and rents separately. The Parlors, décor is an 1890's western look!! You won't be disappointed with it!
