I recommend a 4x4 or similar b/c we have seen more than once where people have gotten stuck. When we are up we carry with us chains in case we need to winch someone out and have used them many time. Better safe than sorry. I’m glad you enjoyed your time at the lake house.

Dana, I will make a thorough response to your review. Please refer to the Rental Agreement and Rules and Regs for my property that you signed and initialed. On page 2 of Rules see the paragraph Garbage: This is what is says: Any garbage must be stowed in the proper garbage or recycling receptacle, located at the side of the house. Garbage is picked up on Monday, so make sure your garbage is in the garbage container outside. There is a $20 charge for this service. Then I go on to let you know the addresses, phone numbers, open times of all the transfer stations nearby if you choose not to spend the $20 and take your garbage yourself. I am not sure where your confusion came from. If there is another paper that has something different, as you know, what you sign is all that matters. The comment you make about the house getting old and needing a bit of TLC, well I just don't have a thing to say about that. I write in my VRBO add when we bought and built so I am not sure why you would have thought it was a new house. Basement carpet is glued to concrete and does not have a soft plush pad under it and that is standard for basement floors in this region where there is so much humidity. This leads to the premature packing of the carpet pile. If you have any understanding of the mountains at all, our house is in a hollow. A hollow is where ALL the rainwater runs to during a rainstorm and there are a lot of rainstorms in the region. It collects all the rain and moves it from its ridge at 3,500 feet and ends up heading to the lake. We replace the pea gravel as much as is reasonable, but not between each rental. My property is rented from May to August without breaks so I am sure that you wouldn't have wanted my gravel guy out there for three days during someone else’s vacation doing gravel work so that you were happy when you arrived. I do not know you so maybe you wouldn’t have a problem with that scenario. If you are referring to the vegetation and growth that occurs in the summer as opposed to the winter months where not much foliage remains on the trees, then you are correct. The picture does not reflect heavy growth during the summer months. We are not the Ritz with our own landscape manicurist who drops by every day to prune. We are in the dirt and woods. I refer to this in most of the documents you receive for your review prior to your stay. But you must read to find the information. The stream is functional. It is called a dry riverbed to help the water to get to the lake through a path of our choice, and not underneath our slab, it is not meant to be a landscape water feature. Again, there is not a maintenance crew coming to the property between renters or after a storm to do a lake edge clean out and I have no control over what ends up on my beach from this 26 miles of shoreline body of water. It is unfortunate that you did not attempt to call me and let me know of these things over the phone, but the damage it done. All I can do it try to explain what I have already written in most of the papers you receive from me to review. This is the mountains with its dirt and water, and trees that inevitably fall into the edge of the water all year long, and lost floatation devices that drift in from across the lake, and some end up on my beach, and some end up of everyone else's beach. Rustic and outdoorsy may not be your thing. At least you have your family memories. For those of you who are have already left me great reviews and I have a 5-star rating with VRBO I appreciate your efforts to call if there is an issue when you arrive or upon leaving that you think I should be made aware of.
