Overview

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2.5+ Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Hartnett's Bluff House sits above a private rocky beach, close to the surf of the Atlantic Ocean. The house is a new construction (built in 2010 by the owners), cedar-shingled post and beam home that boasts an open concept layout. The main floor is open space flooded with views of the ocean from every angle. It contains a well-appointed kitchen with granite and butcher-block countertops and stainless steel appliances. There is a beautiful dining area with a large granite table that seats 6, and a living area with a comfy sofa and chairs perfect for lounging with friends and family, and gazing out at the ocean sunset. The main floor is complete with a powder room and a quaint seating area perfect for a game of chess or cards.

The upper floor reveals a gorgeous master suite with a heavenly king-size bed overlooking the water. A peaceful on-suite bathroom is complete with double sinks and a classic antique claw foot tub. There is also a cozy sitting area with comfortable chairs, ottomans, and reading lamps perfect for curling up with a book at the end of the day. A separate space off of the master has a small room with two twin beds that can be joined to create a king-sized bed, and makes a great kids room.

The lower floor contains a third bedroom with a queen-size bed with ocean views. The third bathroom is complete with a large open tiled shower, double sinks, and more windows looking out onto acres of rosa rugosa. Guests will also find a bonus entertainment room with a flat-screen TV and an L-shaped sofa which pulls out into a double bed for additional sleeping accommodations. There is also a laundry room with an energy-efficient washer and dryer for guests' convenience. Doors lead out onto a large deck complete with lounge chairs, a BBQ, a cold-water outdoor shower, and hammock, perfect for cooling off and relaxing after a long day at the beach!

Adjacent to the house is the path down to the private rocky beach, an excellent place to surf-cast and catch striped bass and bluefish, hunting for driftwood, shells and beautiful beach stones. Later in the season, this serves as a popular surf spot on the island, and provides a great spot to watch the surfers brave the waves!

The house runs exclusively on solar-power, with a wind-power back up source, and is most suited for the ecologically-minded. We hope this will attract guests who wish to leave a low carbon footprint, and have respect for the conservation of energy and resources. This will ensure the most comfortable and enjoyable stay in our home!

The property is located on the southwest corner of Block Island at the end of a rather long dirt road. The road is usually kept in good condition, which should allow easy access by any car. Since the house is located about 3 miles from town and the swimming beaches, a car is necessary. Due to the location of the property, the home allows for the privacy and tranquility that is most prized on Block Island.

Why The Owner chose Rhode Island

We built this house on our 10 acre property in 2009/2010. The property itself has been in the family since 1946.

What makes this house unique

Our property is as far as you can get on the island from the crowds in town. It is very peaceful and quiet except for the sound of the surf. Since we are at the end of the road, there is no passing traffic.

A beautiful, peaceful slice of Block Island paradise.

  • 5 of 5

We just spent a week at Bluff House and couldn't have asked for better accommodations. The house is just as pictured and very well-equipped. Having a private beach, sitting on the deck to enjoy breakfast and falling asleep to the crashing waves were just some of the many gifts of staying here. We highly recommend and have definitely found our Block Island "home away from home". We'll be back! Thank you, Erin, for an effortless visit to your very special home.

Wonderful & Mesmerizing Stay

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful and mesmerizing stay at the Hartnett's Bluff House. We spent 9 nights at the Bluff House overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. We experienced sun, clouds, beautiful sunsets, and a bit of rain that gave astonishing water views from inside the house and outside on the deck. There is a walking path from the house that leads right on the beach area where you can sit and enjoy the ocean waves and sounds. We had a great time exploring & hiking the beach area and had a few campfires on the beach while watching the sunset. The house was very clean, well-kept, and fully furnished. The entire house was set up to make you feel right at home with all your necessities met. We had everything needed for a carefree week and was great for hosting our family who came out to visit for a few days. The kitchen was stocked with all of the necessary utensils, pots, pans, dishes, etc. needed to make any meals. The outdoor space was very nice with patio furniture and grill that allowed us the option to cook and eat outside while looking at the views of the water. The property and house made you feel as if you were on your own exclusive island. I would definitely recommend staying at the Bluff House which is located on the prettiest part of Block Island. The owners were great & respond very fast to any calls and/or messages on the app.

A+

  • 5 of 5

The views from this house are wonderful. The kitchen is nicely equipped. The sheets and towels provided are attractive and clean. All of it is newish and not the sort of beat up left over type of things one sometimes finds appointing a rental house. Obvious care has been put to providing games, books, beach toys, and more. Noticeably missing is the musty smell common to many Block Island houses. We traveled to Block Island at the time of tropical storm Hermine. The owner could not have been more proactively helpful in advising and comforting us on our travel plans, having much more knowledge about the matter than we. A wonderful experience and vacation.

A beautiful house situated perfectly on an incredible piece of oceanfront

  • 5 of 5

You go to an island to get away from it all. You go the Bluff House to really get away from it ALL. So secluded and beautiful. The house is smartly designed with its situation to the water in mind. Wherever you are in the house, you are looking out at the rolling waves lapping at the shore. The sunsets are breathtaking. We could have stayed for months!
