Beautiful view, needs some renovation
We loved the location and view from the home. We had issues with the inoperable thermostat in the lower level and the inability to appropriately heat that level of the home. Thankfully the couple staying on that floor preferred it to be cool. However, a different couple would have likely been freezing! Aside from that big issue, we would recommend the space to friends.
Thanks so much for the review. Of course I am quite concerned about the thermostat and will check in with you separately, since this is the first that I have heard about the problem. (I will also check in with the guest that is there now in case they are also too shy to reach out!) I'm glad you would recommend the space to friends, and am also glad you enjoyed the magnificent views!
Incredible panoramic views but amenities disappointed for $ per night. Nice home, needs fix up.
Lovely home on mountain side. View to die for with ten minute access to town. Drive to and from highway is two lane with about 10 switchbacks. Not for the faint-hearted. Recently paved. The floor plan works well for two couples. Downside was old linens, pillows and towels, hole in ceiling waiting for water leak repair, door to deck would not lock, broken window latches, front door knob loose, little stuff that needs to be fixed to not disappoint. Again, the incredible view made us forgive the lack of attention to updating and small homeowner repairs.
Thanks so much for the feedback! We are working with a new handyman and management group, so will be addressing these problems. We were up this weekend to start on what we can address ourselves, and new linens are on the way. I do hope you enjoyed the kitchen, games, and nearby hikes. We are glad you enjoyed the view!
View is definitely MAGNIFICENT
Rented this home for a long weekend to catch up with some high school friends and were very happy with the home! View was nothing short of breathtaking, one HUGE and one smaller deck. Clean linens, towels, ample parking, ping pong table, cable, grill, excellent kitchen for cooking. The home manager was available for quick communication :).
Would definitely recommend this place, just don't steal our weekend next year!
Beautiful views for larger groups
The views were beautiful, especially in the morning. The house is set up for larger groups with a lot beds. We didn't find the furniture that comfortable.
We had a few problems. The TV was a problem. There are 6 remotes and no instructions for which to use. After several attempts with several remotes we had no TV at all. They do need to provide much more specific instructions. Being without TV for 2 days was irritating. Sent an email after checking in but got no response. Called 2 days later and was told they would deal with it. Repair person didn't show up until mid afternoon. However, once he came, I worked on it until he had it all working.
All-in-all, it wasn't what we expected for the price and there was some frustration, but it worked and we had a good time.
The view is hard to get away from, we often found ourselves watching the view change like it was alive. Our group consisted of my husband and myself, plus our two sons and their wives. There was plenty of space for everyone, including the separate living area on the lower level. This was our 4th trip to Estes Park and by far the best view and home layout we've had.
Our only complaints:
1. The Master didn't have a king sized bed, even though there's plenty of room for one. The others complained about the bed comfort in the lower level but agreed it was a small item considering most everything in the home was fabulous. But getting a good night's sleep for all of us would've been nice.
2. The Master bedroom TV didn't work all week. Someone came to change out the boxes (not sure why) but it didn't work before or after that change. I didn't call back because we weren't going to be around much during the day to wait for someone and we were so exhausted every day, watching TV in bed wasn't a big deal.
3. The upstairs fireplace kept going out and following the instructions in the binder didn't help. The first day someone came and started the pilot but with the winds howling, it blew out later in the trip and wouldn't ignite.
4. The lower level fireplace had no parts, so that was disappointing since we saw the picture and expected it to work for a cozy environment on that level.
5. Last but not least, why is there an office sized waste basket for the kitchen rather than a full sized trash receptacle? Even with only 6 people, it filled daily and became quite a pain to deal with. We also had to ask for trash bags, none were provided.
Fair warning: It's a VERY steep drive with multiple switchbacks and only the first half is paved. This leads to a great view with only one house higher than this on the mountain, but if you're a nervous or inexperienced driver, please beware and be careful. Luckily the snow we had was only 1" and melted quickly or it could've been pretty tricky.
Tips: It's a bit of a drive into town, but definitely get pizza at Antonio's. Small place that does mostly carryout, but so delicious it's worth the wait. We also had a delicious and cozy dinner at the 1929 Tavern at Mary's Lake Lodge. However, they only have one table that accommodates a party greater than 4 people, and even though it was a Sunday night during off-season, a reservation would've avoided a 90-min wait.
We loved this house
A group of eight fifty-somethings came for a hiking/general outdoor vacation and made MV our basecamp for the week. We had a blast in Estes Park. Tons of hiking, day trips to Hot Sulphur Springs and Fort Collins (breweries), ATV'ing, wildlife watching, etc. This house was perfect for us. It is close enough to town and RMNP that you can be in town in 5 minutes and in the park in 15 minutes. One bedroom is upstairs, and three bedrooms are downstairs, and one of the downstairs bedrooms has its own kitchen, so if folks keep different hours, no problem. The main dining table seats 8, and we enjoyed playing hard all day and then coming home and cooking dinner at the house. Kitchen is very well equipped. Good wireless connection if you need to get some work done or just want to post all of your hiking photos. The view from the living room and deck really can't be captured in the photos here. It's fantastic to get up in the morning and see the glow on the mountains. I would highly recommend this house to groups of adults or to big families that need a good home base. Finally, Range Properties (the property manager) was great to deal with. We accidentally left a camera battery behind, and they sent someone out to get it and sent it back to us.
