The name of our cottage is Craic'n Crabs. Craic is Gaelic for good times and fun. It is located on a quiet cul de sac within a 15 minute walk (1 mile) from the shopping and restaurants of Duck. The water photos of our property have not been zoomed. You have an almost 360 degree view of water from our decks and incredible views from the master bedroom as well as views from the two other bedrooms. You can view a video from our top deck above. Also, when the winds are blowing strongly from the east you can enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.

On the main floor of the house you will find a wide open family room, dining area, kitchen, guest bedroom and kids bedroom as well as a full bath. There is also a screened porch right off of the kitchen. The top floor has the master bedroom, the master bath as well as a balcony running the full width of the house over looking the main floor.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed, the guest bedroom has a queen and the kids room has a full over full bunkbed as well as a single bed.

The best views of the water can be found on our expansive top deck. Our hot tub is located here which provide fantastic views of the ocean and sound during the day and spectacular views of the night sky to enjoy star gazing. We have plenty of seating for hanging out with the family or enjoy tanning on a lounge chair while listening to the outside ipod/stereo system. You can access the top deck from the balcony over the family room, the master bedroom or the outside stairs through the screened porch.

Our cottage is a short walk to the beach as well as the Albermarle Sound, pool and tennis court. Enjoy crabbing at the end of our neighborhood dock, which also has a gazebo. There are only 5 homes on our cul de sac resulting in a safe and quiet area for kids to play. Our backyard is essentially a dune.

Craic'n Crabs will feel like your second home. It is warm and cozy. Everything you need is provided - from a fully stocked kitchen, beach chairs and boogie boards to a pack'n play, baby gate, wagon, beach toys and crab trap.

Enjoy eating in our screened in porch right off our kitchen with beautiful views of the Sound. The master bedroom has a wet bar. We have a convenient and powerful outside shower for when you return from a long day at the beach. Our beds are comfortable for a great nights sleep and our hammock is nice for a quiet, shaded nap during the day. We also have a convenient fish cleaning station.

Please refer to the reviews section to see what past guests have said about our home.

We hope that you enjoy your stay!

About Mark McMahon

Our family of four first went to and fell in love with Duck in 1998. Although we live 6 hours away in Pennsylvania we make the drive down to the outer banks every chance we get.

Mark McMahon purchased this house in 2007

Why Mark McMahon chose Tuckahoe

Duck is a quiet and beautiful village. It is a great walking town with plenty of shopping and restaurants. The private beaches are spectacular without all of the crowds of the northeast. Duck is conveniently located so that you can drive to the off road area to see the wild horses in the north or head south to Oregon Inlet to charter a fishing boat.

What makes this house unique

This is one of the highest elevations in Duck and provides unparelleled views of the water from almost all directions. We wanted a quiet street for the kids with an easy walk to town, the beach and the sound. Our neighborhood has private beach access as well as a private pool and a private tennis courts.

Awesome property!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely loved staying at this property! The kitchen is amazing and had everything we needed to cook our meals. The location was perfect for us and the home itself is very clean, comfortable and well kept . The best we've stayed in! The property owners are very friendly and reached out to us to be sure everything was going well. They responded quickly to the few questions we did have. We'll be booking again next summer for sure.

Perfect Vacation

  • 5 of 5

This home was ideal for a long-planned family vacation for two families. We celebrated birthdays, went to the beach every day, crabbed on the sound side, walked everywhere, cooked daily and finished every evening on the top deck.

The home is well stocked with beach gear, coolers, kitchen basics, beach reading and even laundry baskets. The McMahons have thought of everything and were wonderful hosts - extremely responsive and easy to work with. We traveled with our one-year-old twins and found the home's layout to be well suited for their age, as well as a lot of fun for our older kids. Three patios and multiple entrances provided hours of hide and seek fun for the big kids.

We highly recommend Craic'n Crabs and hope to visit again someday!

Great Location

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay at this home. The location was great and the views were beautiful. The owners just updated the kitchen, which was really nice.

Mark was very responsive every time I emailed him prior to the trip and he checked in on us after we'd been there a couple of days. I always felt like he would help us with anything we needed, which was nice.

Great affordable house close to town, beach and sound.

  • 4 of 5

We had a great experience staying at Craic n Crabs! The owners were very responsive and welcoming. They genuinely care about their property and that things are working and comfortable for your stay. They provide a well stocked newly renovated kitchen to include pantry basics. They have ample beach chairs and beach toys for your use along with a wagon to pull it all to the beach. The house is a bit of a hike to the beach with small kids in tow, but there is great parking right next to the beach access. We loved the top wrap around deck and hot tub, it was great for viewing the sound and star gazing. The neighborhood was pleasant and quiet, great for families. We had lots of fun crab fishing on the community dock and bike riding into town. My only complaint would be that some of the mattresses are in need of replacement and were not very comfortable. The top bunk is really just a box spring, fortunately my 5 year old wasn’t bothered though. Overall we loved our stay and would highly recommend this house to others.

Wonderful Vacation...AGAIN!

  • 5 of 5

This was the second year we have stayed at Craic n Crabs in Duck. Both times have been great! We enjoyed this year even more as we traveled with our son who was able to participate a little more this year...now that he can walk!

Mark is super responsive to all requests via email or phone. He made an additional recommendation this year which included a rocket launch...headed to the space station launching just outside of DC. We were able to see it from the roof top of the house and it was amazing (even at 5 am). We took advantage of the rooftop hot tub, the neighborhood pool and the neighborhood parking for the beach - you get a parking pass. For us it is just easier to fill up the SUV with beach supplies and drive down, but the walk is just over 5 minutes. I did this by myself every morning. There are nice walking paths to the downtown area and you can also rent bikes.

The house comes with most everything you would need for the beach -multiple chairs, sand toys for the kids, umbrellas (although these are probably ready to be updated), kites, and finally a radio flyer wagon to tote everything (clutch).

If you have small children a pack n play is included, child gate and free space to roam. There are some breakable items, but easy to move out of the way. I took advantage of the washer/dryer and the line dry which made for a more enjoyable return home after a week at the beach. You do need to bring linens that includes sheets and towels (hand towels for bathrooms). He can also make recommendations for services that do this in the area.

They renovated the kitchen since last year and it includes updated appliances and granite countertops. The same toaster oven is there...which is the best toaster oven, ever. It heats and toasts super fast (I sound really lame as I type this...I know). The kitchen comes very well stocked with more than you would ever need. We ate at least 80% of our meals at the house.

We are already looking forward to next year! I definitely recommend Duck. Everyone is extremely friendly and it is family oriented.

Jockey's Ridge - we took a cool kite we brought

Mama Kwan's - near Jockey's Ridge (Outstanding Fish Tacos)

Roadside Bar & Grill (We love the back outside bar)

Bad Bean Baja Grill (Beach food with a Mexican Twist - Medium is spicy)

Art's Place (We did breakfast, but would love to try lunch/dinner with music)

Steamer's (Excellent Seafood and a but more upscale)
