The name of our cottage is Craic'n Crabs. Craic is Gaelic for good times and fun. It is located on a quiet cul de sac within a 15 minute walk (1 mile) from the shopping and restaurants of Duck. The water photos of our property have not been zoomed. You have an almost 360 degree view of water from our decks and incredible views from the master bedroom as well as views from the two other bedrooms. You can view a video from our top deck above. Also, when the winds are blowing strongly from the east you can enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.

On the main floor of the house you will find a wide open family room, dining area, kitchen, guest bedroom and kids bedroom as well as a full bath. There is also a screened porch right off of the kitchen. The top floor has the master bedroom, the master bath as well as a balcony running the full width of the house over looking the main floor.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed, the guest bedroom has a queen and the kids room has a full over full bunkbed as well as a single bed.

The best views of the water can be found on our expansive top deck. Our hot tub is located here which provide fantastic views of the ocean and sound during the day and spectacular views of the night sky to enjoy star gazing. We have plenty of seating for hanging out with the family or enjoy tanning on a lounge chair while listening to the outside ipod/stereo system. You can access the top deck from the balcony over the family room, the master bedroom or the outside stairs through the screened porch.

Our cottage is a short walk to the beach as well as the Albermarle Sound, pool and tennis court. Enjoy crabbing at the end of our neighborhood dock, which also has a gazebo. There are only 5 homes on our cul de sac resulting in a safe and quiet area for kids to play. Our backyard is essentially a dune.

Craic'n Crabs will feel like your second home. It is warm and cozy. Everything you need is provided - from a fully stocked kitchen, beach chairs and boogie boards to a pack'n play, baby gate, wagon, beach toys and crab trap.

Enjoy eating in our screened in porch right off our kitchen with beautiful views of the Sound. The master bedroom has a wet bar. We have a convenient and powerful outside shower for when you return from a long day at the beach. Our beds are comfortable for a great nights sleep and our hammock is nice for a quiet, shaded nap during the day. We also have a convenient fish cleaning station.

Please refer to the reviews section to see what past guests have said about our home.

We hope that you enjoy your stay!

About Mark McMahon

Our family of four first went to and fell in love with Duck in 1998. Although we live 6 hours away in Pennsylvania we make the drive down to the outer banks every chance we get.

Mark McMahon purchased this house in 2007

Why Mark McMahon chose Duck

Duck is a quiet and beautiful village. It is a great walking town with plenty of shopping and restaurants. The private beaches are spectacular without all of the crowds of the northeast. Duck is conveniently located so that you can drive to the off road area to see the wild horses in the north or head south to Oregon Inlet to charter a fishing boat.

What makes this house unique

This is one of the highest elevations in Duck and provides unparelleled views of the water from almost all directions. We wanted a quiet street for the kids with an easy walk to town, the beach and the sound. Our neighborhood has private beach access as well as a private pool and a private tennis courts.

Wonderful experience!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in Duck. The house is older but warmly decorated with beach themes. Kitchen is large & well supplied but we enjoyed eating out, especially at Blue Point & Red Sky. We loved the deck in the evening with views of both the sound and the ocean at a distance. We didn't use the hot tubs but they were a available on both the deck & in the master bath. The location was fabulous, on the sound side a short drive from the center of town. Beach access was terrific and never too crowded. The house was very homey and delightful. Mark was very attentive & easily accessible. We will definitely return.

The property is as described! Easy to find and situated in a beautiful area. Close to Duck. Easy walk or bike ride to the beach! The boys loved the fishing pier on the sound. The most beautiful sunrises and sunsets!!! Would love to come back! The owners were great and very responsive to questions asked!

Wonderful House

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time to the Outer Banks for a family trip with our newest edition to the family, an 8 month old...and for a few days... the in-laws! The house is fantastic. It definitely had enough space for everyone and plenty of places to "get-away," including the screened in porch or the awesome upper deck. All of the furniture (outside and in) was extremely comfortable. This was our first time to the Duck area and it definitely is small and quaint. To describe it best, there is one main road that follows the ocean on one side and the sound on the other. To the right and left you have different communities. Mark's community is split and he is on the sound side, but you can easily access the ocean or sound via walking/biking or driving. He had parking passes available so you could park literally next to the beach...which was great for all of the items we would drag out for the baby. Speaking of the baby, the house was very family friendly. He had a pack-n-play available and even a gate if you needed it. There were plenty of drawers in each room. The kitchen came well stocked and we used it daily. Their kitchen table is huge! It was nice to have family meals around. I love hot tubs, but have always been weary of how clean they are. When we arrived there was a notice that the hot tub had been cleaned and during our stay they had someone come to service it again which really put my mind at ease. We enjoyed nights in the hot tub looking at the starry sky. The pool is right at the end of his side of the neighborhood you can access with a code, it has bathrooms and an outside shower, along with pool chairs and options for shade. The storage unit under the house is stocked with a wagon, bike, beach chairs, umbrellas and Washer/Dryer (which I used) and you can hang stuff out on the line to dry under the house. The only downside to the vacation were the biting flies at the beach. I was told that depending on which was the wind blows, if from sound/land to ocean it brings them to the beach which must have been happening most of the week. Our favorite restaurant in Duck was Roadside Bar & Grill, excellent food, and really cool backside bar with a band and plenty of chairs and cool décor. I definitely recommend staying at this house, you won't regret it!

Comfortable Home

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in the Outer Banks, and Craic n Crabs was a great location for exploring the northern island - out of the fray of Nags Head, yet easy to get to off Hwy 12. Very close to Duck's amenities, and our new favorite restaurant, Cravings! Also just about 20 minutes to Corolla and the Wild Horses - really fun to take a 4x4 drive on the beach to see them. The house is spacious and especially well priced for what you get - if you want "new" or on the beach, you'll have to pay more. But if you like comfortable, convenient, with a well stocked kitchen, and great views from both the deck & the screened porch, this is a nice property. Mark was very nice to deal with over the phone and by email - he included a perfect list of recommended things to do and places to eat. All very much appreciated. We were two couples enjoying our anniversaries together, and we had a great time.

Crackin Crabs

Beautifully appointed house in the perfect location in Duck from which to explore the OBX. The owners were very easy to reach and so easy to work with! The listing was very accurate in every way. If we ever go to the Outer Banks in the future, we would not hesitate to stay again.

OBX is magical.

We had an enjoyable time. The house is beautiful and comfortable. The views of the sound and ocean are breath taking from the top deck. We enjoyed early morning walks to the sound, relaxing at the beach, and exploring in the town of Duck (walkable). I highly recommend this property and location.
