The name of our cottage is Craic'n Crabs. Craic is Gaelic for good times and fun. It is located on a quiet cul de sac within a 15 minute walk (1 mile) from the shopping and restaurants of Duck. The water photos of our property have not been zoomed. You have an almost 360 degree view of water from our decks and incredible views from the master bedroom as well as views from the two other bedrooms. You can view a video from our top deck above. Also, when the winds are blowing strongly from the east you can enjoy the sounds of the waves crashing on the beach.

On the main floor of the house you will find a wide open family room, dining area, kitchen, guest bedroom and kids bedroom as well as a full bath. There is also a screened porch right off of the kitchen. The top floor has the master bedroom, the master bath as well as a balcony running the full width of the house over looking the main floor.

The master bedroom has a king sized bed, the guest bedroom has a queen and the kids room has a full over full bunkbed as well as a single bed.

The best views of the water can be found on our expansive top deck. Our hot tub is located here which provide fantastic views of the ocean and sound during the day and spectacular views of the night sky to enjoy star gazing. We have plenty of seating for hanging out with the family or enjoy tanning on a lounge chair while listening to the outside ipod/stereo system. You can access the top deck from the balcony over the family room, the master bedroom or the outside stairs through the screened porch.

Our cottage is a short walk to the beach as well as the Albermarle Sound, pool and tennis court. Enjoy crabbing at the end of our neighborhood dock, which also has a gazebo. There are only 5 homes on our cul de sac resulting in a safe and quiet area for kids to play. Our backyard is essentially a dune.

Craic'n Crabs will feel like your second home. It is warm and cozy. Everything you need is provided - from a fully stocked kitchen, beach chairs and boogie boards to a pack'n play, baby gate, wagon, beach toys and crab trap.

Enjoy eating in our screened in porch right off our kitchen with beautiful views of the Sound. The master bedroom has a wet bar. We have a convenient and powerful outside shower for when you return from a long day at the beach. Our beds are comfortable for a great nights sleep and our hammock is nice for a quiet, shaded nap during the day. We also have a convenient fish cleaning station.

Please refer to the reviews section to see what past guests have said about our home.

We hope that you enjoy your stay!

About Mark McMahon

Our family of four first went to and fell in love with Duck in 1998. Although we live 6 hours away in Pennsylvania we make the drive down to the outer banks every chance we get.

Mark McMahon purchased this house in 2007

Why Mark McMahon chose Duck

Duck is a quiet and beautiful village. It is a great walking town with plenty of shopping and restaurants. The private beaches are spectacular without all of the crowds of the northeast. Duck is conveniently located so that you can drive to the off road area to see the wild horses in the north or head south to Oregon Inlet to charter a fishing boat.

What makes this house unique

This is one of the highest elevations in Duck and provides unparelleled views of the water from almost all directions. We wanted a quiet street for the kids with an easy walk to town, the beach and the sound. Our neighborhood has private beach access as well as a private pool and a private tennis courts.

Great location and fantastic views!

  • 5 of 5

This was our first time in OBX and it sure was not a disappointment. The home is in a wonderful location, walking distance to the beach, sound, and community pool. You are a quick drive to the store, restaurants, or the 4WD beach. The home is located in a neighborhood which has access to the community tennis courts, pool, and parking for the sound and beach if needed. The beach parking was nice for when we were leaving the beach and my little ones were tired and didn't want to walk. The view from the deck/hot tub is hard to beat and afternoons in the hot tub watching the sunset were wonderful. If you are into bicycles you can ride pretty much anywhere since the home is in such a great location. The home is spacious and well kept and many beach supplies were already there (chairs, beach toys, boogie boards, wagon, etc). The homeowners were very accommodating and easy to reach. We will definitely be booking a stay for next year!

great spot in Duck

  • 5 of 5

The property was very comfortable and had everything we needed to enjoy a great week in OBX. The upper deck with its views were incredible and we enjoyed the hot tub just about every night. The location was excellent with easy access to the sound and the beach and an easy bike ride to town as well. I would recommend this to any family looking for a relaxing beach vacation.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Craic'n Crabs. Everything we needed for our stay was available to us at the house and we especially loved the hot tub! We will definitely stay here again in the future.

Our family of 4 had a wonderful time at this property. It was the perfect place to unwind after a hectic work week! Beautiful views from upper deck of the sound and ocean. Short walk ( 0.5) to ocean. Quiet neighborhood community. House very well equipped ( kitchen, games, etc). Mark and Stefanie extremely conscientious about checking in after first day to make sure all was well. Very nice and available to deal with through entire rental process. Highly recommended!

Our vacation in Duck was nothing less than excellent, and our stay was complimented by this wonderful home. The home was incredibly comfortable and spacious to accommodate our family of four...just as described. We could have easily had another couple there and still been very comfortable. The well-stocked kitchen was fantastic for preparing the "catch of the day" from the various local fish and seafood markets. The upper deck had panoramic views of the ocean and the sound, and was a great place to have the morning coffee or unwind in the hot tub at night. It was just a short walk to either the beach to hang out with family, or the sound to enjoy the kayaks we rented or to watch the incredible Outer Banks sunsets. The town of Duck was also a short distance away where we enjoyed walking the boardwalk and visiting the shops, or eating at the local restaurants. The owners were great. They went above and beyond to make sure we enjoyed their home as much as they do. I wouldn't hesitate to rent their home again and hope we have the opportunity to do so.

Wonderful experience!!

  • 5 of 5

We had a fabulous stay in Duck. The house is older but warmly decorated with beach themes. Kitchen is large & well supplied but we enjoyed eating out, especially at Blue Point & Red Sky. We loved the deck in the evening with views of both the sound and the ocean at a distance. We didn't use the hot tubs but they were a available on both the deck & in the master bath. The location was fabulous, on the sound side a short drive from the center of town. Beach access was terrific and never too crowded. The house was very homey and delightful. Mark was very attentive & easily accessible. We will definitely return.
