2nd visit to Fireflies, both times to celebrate a wedding anniversary. Dog walks on the New River Trail and visited a couple nearby vineyards. This made for a relaxing weekend. Like last year, the deer are entertaining to watch and they nearly come onto the back porch.

Perfect Getaway Weekend!

Our second time at this property was just as good as the first! Everything, including the property was very clean and well kept. The river and the trees were absolutely beautiful in the fall. Once again, we will be back!

Wonderful isn't a strong enough word...

We were traveling north from NC in order to get away from tornado watches/warnings and an already flooded home... our hosts were incredible and so very accommodating. Comfortable, quiet, relaxing and beautiful. We had our 13 yr old daughter and our sweet but big puppy along for the adventure.

Couple Getaway

My girlfriend and I enjoyed a lovely time in the secluded cabin with our little English bulldog, Goose. We spent the nights by the fire, enjoyed the local wineries, and got a chance to go up the river on the kayaks for a relaxing day on the water. Would 100% come back to this property.

Amazing stay

The cabin is very homey! It is definitely a home away from home! Beautiful view and amazing place on the new river! I will definitely be coming back more often for a getaway!

Clean, Beautiful, Restful

After searching through many places to stay, I can't believe we found such a perfect place! This is now our go-to vacation spot. Bill and Kathie really pay attention to detail and include so many helpful perks. We made good use of the kayaks with our pup, caught fireflies, grilled, went star-gazing, and relaxed in the jacuzzi. We'll definitely be back!

We had the most relaxing stay! Everything from the house to the river were exceptional. Super nice house and plenty of room for our dogs to run. Only regret was not booking a longer stay. Thank you guys so much!! Look forward to coming back

Great Romantic getaway!

My partner and I loved it. The hosts were great, and it was a beautiful experience. There were many Wildlife: deer, Falcons, and even a Bear running across the field. I am already booking another longer stay. Three or more nights are perfect. The well-stocked kitchen has everything you need to cook a meal after spending a day on the river, Kayaking or just laying out on their dock.

Home away from home

I can't say enough about our stay. They literally though of everything possible that one could need plus some. As soon as you walk in, it just feels like home. Kathie left fresh Pumpkin muffins on the table for us upon arrival. The property in itself is breathtaking. We spent hours on the porch off of the living room. We were lucky enough to get a little storm during our stay so we got to enjoy the storm on the porch and watch as the lightening and fireflies lit up the night. It was a magical experience. The fish were jumping and ready to eat, unfortunately, they didn't like our dinner lol I am so glad that we were able to find this gem, and so close to home at that. It is only a 25 minute drive from home so we will definitely be making this a regular getaway. Thank you Bill and Kathie for sharing your amazing place with us!

Honeymoon bliss!

My husband and I spent a week at the cabin for our honeymoon, and it was amazing! It's such a peaceful and tranquil area. We spent most of our time sitting out on the patio area or down by the river, just listening to nature. The cabin itself is lovely, too. Very comfy bed, nice bathroom, updated and well-stocked kitchen. We highly recommend staying, even if just for a weekend!

We retired to the New River Valley in 2008 having lived in the southern portion of New Jersey. Kathie was an elementary school principal and Bill ran a small contracting business.

Bill and his father built the cabin in 2009. The cabin was designed and furnished with our future guests in mind. Our aim has always been to make our guests' stay relaxing. We make every effort to make Fireflies Cabin your home away from home.

The cabin has been designed and located on the property in such a way that you feel like you are far 'away from it all' while being only 5 miles from Interstate 81 and 800 feet off of route 100 (Wysor Highway).Our very own floating dock sits on the river in front of the cabin. It is great for fishing and swimming.
