About Tim or Julie Ryan

My husband and I grew up in Illinois, but we LOVE being near the water! We escape to a beach whenever we can. We were thrilled to discover Holland Michigan several years ago when we were looking for a great way to celebrate our Anniversary. We spent the weekend in Holland and just loved the area and Lake Michigan. We came back several times and always felt like we had found a wonderful Midwestern secret in Holland. When our family recently discussed summer vacation destinations, everyone agreed that a BEACH was just what we wanted. So we introduced our daughters to Holland, Michigan and they loved it as much as we did! We recently made the decision to invest in a second home and Holland was the perfect spot. We look forward to many years of enjoying and sharing the beauty of Holland and our beloved Cottage.

Tim or Julie Ryan purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Tim or Julie Ryan chose Holland

We love the area of Western Michigan, and specifically Holland! The beauty of Lake Michigan and the surrounding area has made it a place we've returned to again and again. The friendliness of the people of Holland makes it an even more enjoyable place to visit.

Charming but very dated

  • 3 of 5

Our stay at waukazoo cottage was bearable and a different experience for us. The impression we had of the house was that there were good intentions made. Lots of lake decor and chairs and pillows. The house was lacking a good end table or coffee table of any kind. We also got the feeling that the owners don't spend a lot of time there. It needed some tlc. A plus was that the kitchen is fully equipped for cooking, however I couldn't get a good cup of coffee to save my life. Nothing beats a kuerig.

The house would greatly benefit from central air or at least ceiling fans in the living room bedrooms and porch area. It was July and the ventilation was pretty poor. The overall feeling was just an old feel. Everything looked worn out or a bit unkept. No one would sit at that back patio table. We also found MANY spiders and bugs inside the house while we were there. It could use an exterminator.

So I give it 3 stars. Good and bad parts... The house just doesn't get much action and has a run down feel because of that. The good part was we weren't at the house much during the day. It was for sleeping. Also location was pretty good. Easy access to bike trails. And if ya don't mind roughing it a little then it was fine. We won't be back.

Comfortable family get away

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for our family of 4. It is located in a quiet wooded neighborhood that is perfect for biking and walking. The front porch is perfect for relaxing. The cottage is a short drive to Holland State Park and Tunnel Park for beach access to Lake Michigan. It's a quick trip into downtown Holland for dining and shopping. Saugatuck is a few minutes away, and Silver Lake Sand Dunes (a must see) are about an hour away. The cottage is a great home base for exploring the beach towns, or just staying "home" and relaxing. We would definitely stay again.

Waukazoo Cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was quaint and in a beautiful, peaceful area. We thoroughly enjoyed our time there. It was well stocked and was everything we would want out of a rental. I ranked it 4 instead of 5 for two reasons. First of all, for a family of four staying four nights, we were short on trash bags (2), laundry soap (none) toilet paper (3 rolls) and paper towels (1/8 to 1/4 of a roll). Secondly, the yard needed to be maintained. It was not taken care of like the rest of the street. Overall, I would recommend this cottage. The front porch was our favorite spot!!!

Owner's Response: Marci, Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Since your stay, we have retained a new lawn service to take care of the lawn. We have also directed our cleaning service to make sure there are ample starter supplies for each guest. As with most vacation homes, we supply enough paper products for the initial days, with guests taking care of the remainder of the stay. Thank you for your recommendation of Waukazoo Cottage to others. We appreciate it!
