We are Coloradoans who know how to appreciate the great mountain outdoors. We feel visitors will get a satisfying experience when visiting, whether you are an active outdoorsman/woman or just up to enjoy the quiet mountain air and sun. We had our first blind date in Grand Lake over 40 years ago and have enjoyed it ever since.
Roger and Kay Bottoms purchased this cabin in 2004
We bought this home because so many activities are readily accessed from this location.
There is access to: Rocky Mountain National Park, Columbine Lake, Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Resevoir, and Lake Granby, all within a short walking or driving distance. Hike, golf, mountain bike, boat, snowmobile, cross country ski, sled, shop.
Also the Village of Grand Lake is 2 miles away and provides strolling through town shopping, or watching the sail boats float and the speed boats fly across Grand Lake, or play in the water at the swim beach. The lot backs up to the golf course, and with a vacant lot next door it feels nicely private. The Golf Course Clubhouse is only 1/2 mi. away. The lower bedroom has its own electric heater/stove. Our favorite space is the east facing outside covered deck large enough to accomodate many and includes a patio table + 6 chairs, additional seating wicker couch, a swinging bench, and BBQ. The cabin is simple but efficient. Rooms are generous with lots of windows. Ceiling fans keep the air moving if needed, and a woodburning stove makes the great room very cozy. Satelite TV is available.
When there are no fire restrictions you can enjoy a fire in the firepit out back. Please be EXTREMELY CAREFUL as fire danger can be great. In winter ski at the Nordic ski area right behind the cabin on the Grand Lake golf course. Free tubing at the Nordic center as well and they provide the tubes!
The cabin was great--very comfortable and well furnished. The kitchen was well stocked and the owners don't mind if you use a few basics as long as you replace anything that gets used up. That's a big help if you want to cook and eat in and are only there for a few days. We had breakfast in and packed lunches, and ate dinner out, although you could easily cook or BBQ for dinner as well. The furnishings are very comfortable and the location is great. Very close to Grand Lake, which is a nice town, but not too big, and just minutes from Rocky Mountain National Park. I hope we'll be able to go back there again soon!
My husband and I stayed at the Dreamcatcher cabin with our two little kids (21 months and almost 4 years) this past week and had a wonderful time! His parents were also with us for part of the time and there was plenty of room for everyone. We loved being so close to RMNP and Grand Lake. The cabin is very thoughtfully appointed, with comfortable beds, plenty of sleeping space, two full bathrooms, and cozy living room. The kitchen had everything we needed to prep and cook, and there was even a decent assortment of spices and condiments. We loved having dining areas both inside and outside, along with a great gas grill. The deck is fantastic and we spent many afternoons there playing and listening to the thunderstorms. Kay and Roger were very responsive as we were booking our reservation and made sure we had all the information we needed. All in all a terrific place to stay.
My family stayed at the cabin for a week in July. We visit Grand Lake often, to hike, canoe, kayak, etc. Normally we find a cabin on the hill in town because we like to walk to coffee in the morning, but Grand Lake's growing popularity made it impossible this trip. So we took a chance on this Columbine Lake cabin. It was a great choice---not only was it peaceful and quiet, we could still walk into town for coffee. The beds were all very comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, the water pressure was strong, the neighbors were nice---perfect. If you are coming into the Grand Lake area from Granby, remember to stock up at City Market before you head to the cabin!
We have 3 couples and 3 toddlers. This house was perfect for us. Loved the front deck that was safe for toddlers to roam without having to worry. Great fire pit and location. Had books and puzzles for the kids. Lots of movies and books for adults. Overall a good place to relax that is close to downtown but far enough away to feel like you have escaped. Columbine lake was very beautiful and a good walk/run around the lake. Had everything we needed and the owners thought of everything. Made us feel very welcome even though we never met. Thanks for the wonderful trip! No wildlife viewings for us but probably because we have some toddlers running around.
Thank you for the wonderful home and setting. Our party of five adults had ample room to relax and enjoy the Rocky Mountains. Wildlife was abundant with a bull moose walking right past our bedroom window. After 50 miles of hiking during our stay the cabin amenities were welcomed.
Property borders the Grand Lake Golf Course in the 'back yard'. It has an open view across the Golf Course to the mountains. Listen to the Elk bugle in the Fall right from the cabin. Enjoy the best golfing in the county or walk the golf course in the evening to enjoy open spaces and the mountainous horizon or the often seen Elk herds and Moose. Walk the road all the way around Columbine Lake about 2 miles. Fish in one of the many area lakes, or fly fish the Colorado River. Many nearby trails for both Mountain Biking or Hiking or just sit by the fire pit and enjoy starry nights.
Entrance to Rocky Mountain National Park is less than 3 miles for a scenic drive over Trail Ridge Road, hiking, or wild animal viewing. Don't forget your camera AND a coat, the highest continuous paved road in the USA. Visit Kawanechee visitor center before you go up. There is also a visitor center/cafe at the top and some breathtaking trails to look-outs along the way. Always bring a jacket. It's ALWAYS cold up top. The other side of Trail Ridge is Estes Park, another quaint tourist mountain town. Usually you will see elk and other large wild life along the way.
Fish at any of the 3 lakes in the area: Grand Lake, Shadow Mountain Reservoir, or Granby Reservoir or visit the town public docks for a view across Grand Lake to the mountains. Fish right from the dock! Boat in any of the 3 lakes. Boat rentals available.
Grand Lake Village is only 3 miles away with many quaint shops, coffee shops, and restaurants. You WON'T find chain businesses here! It's all local and wonderful!
Winter time enjoy Nordic skiing on the same golf course with 30 miles of groomed trails. Ski to the lodge 1/2 mi. away. Moonlight skiing 4 times per season. Fabulous tubing in the winter at the Nordic Center FREE! Tubes supplied! Safe and fun for children of all ages! Downhill ski at Granby Ski Ranch or Winter Park. Thirty to 45 minutes away respectively.
Rent cross country skiis or snowshoes at the Nordic Center or in town at Never Summer Sports.
Rent snowmobiles in town, or at Winding River Resort just up Highway 34. There are hundreds of miles of groomed snowmobile trails.
