About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Den, 1.5 Baths (Sleeps 8 in beds, space for 4 sleeping bags)

Enjoy over 1250 feet of private access on the famous East branch of the AuSable River while you stay in this newly-renovated Adirondack home. This river is world-renowned for its fly fishing enjoyment. The wide expanse with pools, rocks and deep open areas provides exciting trout action. A secluded private beach is a special feature of our property.

Originally constructed in 1840, this home has pine walls, hardwood floors and rustic decor that compliment the natural surroundings. This non-smoking home, has a large eat-in kitchen, three br, living room and den with plenty of room for large families. Roam over five acres that include open meadow, pine forest or sit on the covered porch to enjoy the sound and sight of rushing water.

On this site is a 24' x 26' barn. A quiet road lends easy access to property. New York State land directly across from the property protects the privacy of fishermen, swimmers and sunbathers. The shoreline has sandy beach areas and is large enough for setting up a tent, blankets for a picnic and reclining in lounge chairs. The property is along Ironman Bike course. We are located on the Keene/Upper Jay border.

Set in the high peaks, many recreational activities are nearby and can be enjoyed year round. For fishing, hiking, canoeing, tubing, rock climbing, biking, hunting, golfing, horseback riding etc., this is a great spot.

Mount Von Hovenberg and Whiteface Mountain Olympic venues are just 15 minutes away. Convenient to the quaint village of Lake Placid and the Olympic Center Complex, just 20 minutes away. International airports at Montreal, Canada, Albany, New York and Burlington Vt, are less than 2 hours away by car. Lake Champlain and the ferries to Vermont less than 40 minutes to the East.

Owner's Response: River House is a special place on earth. Rushing water over glacial rocks, cool, shady pine forests, night sky filled with stars..... So happy you experienced it, and I'm glad you're coming back!

Perfect every time!

This has been our 8th year and 12th stay at River House. The home and surroundings never disappoint. Ideally located on the East Branch Ausable River, close to Keene, the Hungry Trout restaurant in Wilmington, and only a 20 minute drive to Lake Placid. We always enjoy looking at the band of the Milky Way, and shooting stars over the river were a bonus this year. It is the perfect place to recharge. Already cannot wait until next-year's stay.

We loved every minute of our visit to the Rover House. We have been coming every year for 14 years.

For us, it is perfect. We hike, swim and relax together. It is always a fond memory and a special place we want to return to.

It's a wonderful cottage. Fantastic location. Spotlessly clean. Lots of space for our group of girls who come to hike every year.

So much to offer.

The house is in a great location and having the river so close by was amazing. My family of 9 fit with one sleeping on the couch...6 actual beds...sleeps 8. The home was spotless and had every single item you could want for while staying away from your own home: sheets, towels, washer, dryer, dishwasher, oven/stove and all the kitchen and barbequing utensils you could ever need. It is so close to so many activities there was no time for boredom. I would suggest you download every route into your phone before leaving their residence (there is wifi) as there is basically no service until you reach the top of a mountain hike or the center of each town. My husband downloaded an app "All trails" for $30/yr and it gives you so much information about any trail out there. Enjoy the waterfalls and the views. Just a beautiful area of our state. After every adventure, we looked forward to going back to this house as we would our own. It's that cozy. LOVE!

A Little Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

Perfect for all ages. We have 3 small children (4, 2, and 9mos) and our friends also have a 9 year old. The kids had a ball singing songs around the campfire and playing on the sandy beach. House was tidy & had everything we needed for cooking, etc. Overall, very thoughtfully appointed.

Great location if you're looking to do any high peak hiking, and if you've got little ones I highly recommend Owls Head Peak (my 4 year old hiked it, while we carried the other two. It has a very rewarding view at the top, and a couple lovely stops along the way!).
