About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

The Cabin at Green Mountain is located three miles south of Nemo, a tiny mountain town set in the picturesque valley of Boxelder Creek. Central to Deadwood, Sturgis, Rapid City and Hill City, our convenient location let’s you visit top attractions while providing a special haven of rest and relaxation.

The cabin is nestled under tall pines on the edge of a strikingly beautiful and secluded Black Hills meadow. The view from the front porch across a sweep of pasture, ringed by steep rock ridges and dense pine and spruce, is punctuated be a sheer white limestone cliff rising in the distance. This private little valley is graced by Jim Creek. The diverse flora and quietly tumbling creek attract a wide variety of Black Hills animals and birds.

Enjoy relaxing on the front porch, hiking in the woods, trout fishing in the creeks, cross-country skiing, birding, golf courses, restaurants and all major Black Hills attractions.

The brilliantly redesigned 1910 building features a lofted cathedral ceiling and a large field-stone, gas fireplace. Three sleeping areas accommodate up to six people. The main level has a full bath, a well-equipped kitchen and dining area, a comfortable living room, and a bedroom with bunk beds and a queen bed. Upstairs, the open loft holds a double fold out futon. This area also can be used as a second living room and has a special parquet card table perfect for games, puzzles or projects. An upstairs master bedroom has a queen bed and a private full bath.

About The Owner

Your hosts, Mark and Mary Zimmerman are both professional artists, avid students of the history, geology, flora and fauna of the Black Hills. Their house, barn, and their Green Ink Gallery and Studios are located nearby on this same 30 acre original homestead which is surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest.

The Owner purchased this cabin in 1988

What makes this cabin unique

Undeniably one of the most beautiful properties in the Black Hills, this serene little valley is a special haven, a place of solace, where it is possible to truly rest, relax, and deeply recharge. This is a place where it is entirely natural to make special memories that will last a lifetime.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is without a doubt the coziest cabin we've ever stayed in! Mary and her lovely dog Donner came to check in on us upon arrival, and both she and her husband were extremely warm and accommodating to us. The views were stunning, and they always left the lights on for us when we got back in the evenings. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend in the hills!

The definition of tranquility.

Great hosts. Beautiful cabin. Amazing porch with an amazing view. One of the best VRBOs we have ever stayed in. When we build our cabin in Colorado...it'll be a carbon copy of this place.

Great time, however, be aware that no cell or wifi at cabin. Worked for us but may not work for folks that need to stay connected.

Owner's Response: We really enjoyed meeting you Ron and Joanne; thanks for staying here! For those wondering about internet, we are working on getting the wifi extender back in service in the cabin soon. For now, it is only available in the yard - glad the fall weather has been so amazingly beautiful! Cell service is available about 1 mile up the road --too many mountains blocking the signal, but of course, that's why we're here :)

Black Hills get-away

  • 5 of 5

We had a very pleasant stay at the cabin and it was very convenient to explore the area from it's location. The view was great and we really appreciated Mark showing us their art studio. What a great collection! My only regret is that we did not take a day off from sight seeing and just enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Thanks Mary and Mark.

Idyllic location, beautiful cabin, great hosts

  • 5 of 5

This cabin ticked all the boxes! It's secluded, very homely and has everything you would need to be self sufficient while staying here. The owners are very friendly, are nearby if anything is needed and were really helpful and accommodating during our stay. The views from the cabin were breathtaking and wildlife wandering past was a real bonus for us. The owners photos of the cabin truly represent what you get and we can't rate this cabin high enough. Several times during our stay I found myself wishing I lived here!

We had a wonderful stay at the Cabin at Green Mountain. Mary and Mark are exemplary hosts. Thank you for introducing us to Dasher and Echo and for answering all of our questions about the area and it's critter species. We loved our time here!
