About the property

Cabin, 2 Bedrooms + Loft, 2 Baths, (Sleeps up to 6)

The Cabin at Green Mountain is located three miles south of Nemo, a tiny mountain town set in the picturesque valley of Boxelder Creek. Central to Deadwood, Sturgis, Rapid City and Hill City, our convenient location let’s you visit top attractions while providing a special haven of rest and relaxation.

The cabin is nestled under tall pines on the edge of a strikingly beautiful and secluded Black Hills meadow. The view from the front porch across a sweep of pasture, ringed by steep rock ridges and dense pine and spruce, is punctuated be a sheer white limestone cliff rising in the distance. This private little valley is graced by Jim Creek. The diverse flora and quietly tumbling creek attract a wide variety of Black Hills animals and birds.

Enjoy relaxing on the front porch, hiking in the woods, trout fishing in the creeks, cross-country skiing, birding, golf courses, restaurants and all major Black Hills attractions.

The brilliantly redesigned 1910 building features a lofted cathedral ceiling and a large field-stone, gas fireplace. Three sleeping areas accommodate up to six people. The main level has a full bath, a well-equipped kitchen and dining area, a comfortable living room, and a bedroom with bunk beds and a queen bed. Upstairs, the open loft holds a double fold out futon. This area also can be used as a second living room and has a special parquet card table perfect for games, puzzles or projects. An upstairs master bedroom has a queen bed and a private full bath.

About The Owner

Your hosts, Mark and Mary Zimmerman are both professional artists, avid students of the history, geology, flora and fauna of the Black Hills. Their house, barn, and their Green Ink Gallery and Studios are located nearby on this same 30 acre original homestead which is surrounded by the Black Hills National Forest.

What makes this cabin unique

Undeniably one of the most beautiful properties in the Black Hills, this serene little valley is a special haven, a place of solace, where it is possible to truly rest, relax, and deeply recharge. This is a place where it is entirely natural to make special memories that will last a lifetime.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is without a doubt the coziest cabin we've ever stayed in! Mary and her lovely dog Donner came to check in on us upon arrival, and both she and her husband were extremely warm and accommodating to us. The views were stunning, and they always left the lights on for us when we got back in the evenings. I would recommend this cabin to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend in the hills!

Add Cabin at Green Mountain to your bucket list

  • 5 of 5

I can't begin to describe how great it was. Between the beautiful view on all sides, the almost lush accommodations and the warm welcome this stay will be in our favorite memories forever. Everything about the cabin was perfect. It is stocked with enough dishes and utensils so you can prepare and enjoy your own meals while enjoying the view. It is tucked away far enough off the road so there is no noise except the sound of Jim Creek flowing by and the breeze blowing through the pines yet it is close enough to all of the Black Hills tourist destinations and to Rapid City to get supplies that you don't spend your whole trip driving. Mark and Mary have created a little slice of heaven that we truly enjoyed. I think my favorite memory will be getting up early and catching a few brook trout in Jim Creek before breakfast. Between that and the smell of the pine trees it really brought me back to my childhood in Oregon decades ago. And, shortly after you arrive, expect to be welcomed by Dasher the resident mouser. He is very friendly and will stretch out at your feet and purr as soon as you scratch his ears. The hosts were very easy to reach and responded quickly to any questions we had prior to arrival. We plan to return some day but this next time we will bring our grandchildren so they can enjoy it as much as we did.

Absolutely Charming

  • 5 of 5

Peace & quiet just as promised. My husband said his favorite view of the whole Black Hills area was from the front porch of this cabin. Neat & clean, exactly as shown. Owners were friendly and very accomodating. We even enjoyed a hike up the hill out back on BHNF land. Would love to stay again, and won't hesitate to recommend to friends and family.

Mark & Mary have a beautiful property, with a really nice, quaint, and enjoyable cabin. We loved our time there picking wildflowers and enjoying the nature right around the place. We would really like to stay there again!

The Cabin at Green Mountain was AMAZING!

  • 5 of 5

Our family loved our stay at the Cabin at Green Mountain! The scenery was beautiful and Mark and Mary were excellent hosts. Our three boys loved learning about all the critters from Mark and meeting the horses, the cat, Dasher, and the dog, Echo. We were removed from hustle and bustle and enjoyed returning to the cabin each evening. We hope to visit again! Thank you for a wonderful getaway!
