Hot tub old doesn't work but they will tell you it does. Had to haul wood upstairs to wood stove and out to fire pit also wood was so green it would not burn.

Owner's Response: The hot tub is an old-style Jacuzzi tub and doesn’t have high speed jets (more of a soaking tub) The tub was ready to go and hot on their arrival, but they didn’t use it the first night or check to see if it was hot. The tub is on a timer that heats it during peak periods of use. The guest said the hot tub wasn’t hot. We immediately sent our handyman to the home to check to see what the problem was. The timer button had to be reset as it was a non--peak heating time. We do have hot tub instructions in the house concerning the timer. We didn’t hear from the guest again during their stay. After their departure, we checked the tub and the temperature was at 104. Even though the tub was working, we have given the guest a credit for the hot tub. Regarding “green” wood. The wood has been seasoned three years. We fill the wood basket next to the wood stove and lay a fire for the guests. If more wood is needed, there is wood outside the home in a covered bin. Since, the wood stove is upstairs, they would have to bring wood into the home if more is needed during their stay. We’re very sorry the guest did not have a happy stay.

Absolutely unique little house!

  • 5 of 5

For 1 or 2 people, there is nothing more fun for a place to stay on the Mendocino Coast! The view is spectacular of the mouth of the Navarro, whenever the fog decides to lift (don't expect to see much when you wake up in the morning though.) But even that was fine. Everything was very comfortable. If you are a person who has to have all their devices functional, this might not be for you though. DISH doesn't work when the fog is in, and there is no cellular reception. But no matter; once you get used to being "off grid" so to speak, the silence is refreshing and restorative. I would certainly stay here again!

Wine Barrel- One of our Favorite Spots!

  • 5 of 5

We love the wine barrel and visit the special place often. For those of you wanting a five star hotel, this is not the place. If you want a cabin, with spectacular views, want to wake up to the ocean, a dip in the hot tub and have your four legged friends by your side, then this is the place! The kitchen is fully equipped, you can have a wood fire in our outside (wood provided), and if you don't want a fire, there are plenty of heaters for those cold nights. The best part is the cabin is centrally located so you can go to many of the wonderful restaurants in Albion or Mendocino, or to the Anderson Valley for some great wine tasting!

Great view and locale but overall lacking

  • 2 of 5

This review applies to the "Wine Barrel" property.

View - 5/5 stars - You have an excellent view of the river and ocean from the back door.

Amenities - 2/5 - There is a fire pit, some lounge chairs, and a nice grassy area just outside the back door. The Jacuzzi did not work properly after we arrived (its temp was lukewarm) and we were refunded the cleaning fee for it after our stay. That was unfortunate because the Jacuzzi was one of the reasons we booked this property.

Interior of property - 3/5 - While the furniture and decor is old and worn, the interior structure itself has very unique character which we enjoyed.

Cleanliness - 1/5 - while it did not ruin our stay, we will not book this property again. There were dead rolly polly bugs on the kitchen counter behind the toaster (yuck!), in the cabinet where the games were, and presumably fleas also in the upstairs. While my wife did not suffer, I left with 20 or so bug bites all over my body and was itching for a few days after.

Location 4/5 - you are just a short drive to the beach. Albion doesn't offer much in the way of restaurants and nightlife which for us adds to its appeal.
