About The Owner

We are a young couple with two small children who love to get up to the mountains to relax, kayak, hike and enjoy the views of the woods from the back porch and the views of the water and the mountains from the front porch!

The Owner purchased this cabin in 2009

Why The Owner chose Northwest

We bought this cabin in 2009 after falling in love with Grand Lake and the west side of Rocky Mountain National Park. It needed some work - actually, a bunch of work. We gutted the entire inside down to the studs and put in new floors; new kitchen; new bathroom; a brand new wood-burning stove; new carpet; and sound insulation between the bedrooms. We bought it before we had kids, and spent a lot of time up there. When the little ones came along, it became a little harder to travel up there as often, and so we decided to make it a rental property in 2012. Our guests seem to love the quiet, and all the wildlife in the back yard. Our next major project is to redo the siding and the front and back porches. However, the inside is brand new, and 'it's what's on the inside that counts!!'

What makes this cabin unique

It is way less crowded - with way more wildlife and more peace and quiet - than the east side of RMNP. We love the many lakes, the woods in the back yard, the trails, and the stars at night!

We loved the cabin and the feeling of being in nature and not right next to neighbors!

  • 4 of 5

Everything was great! The only negative was that we didn't realize beforehand that we wouldn't have access to the lake across from the cabin. We enjoyed our stay, regardless!

We had one night at this adorable property. It has clearly been modernized and provided everything we needed. Our kids loved it, and we would stay here again!

Wonderful stay in Grand Lake

  • 5 of 5

This cabin was perfect for our needs. It was clean and you can see that the owners have put a lot of love into this place. It feels a little more remote than being right in town, with the option of being at the center of everything in less than 10 minutes. Best of both worlds.

I'm surprised the owners don't mention the fire pit out back - it was a perfect end to our day. We had our own camp chairs to use. I'm not sure if there were any available at the property as we didn't really bother looking. Plenty of wood to use as well. The back deck is spacious and can be gated off which was perfect to keep our two dogs contained.

I didn't sleep on the pull out couch but the couple that did mentioned that it really wasn't very comfortable (not that pull out couches usually are). There is a twin sized mattress topper available to put on the pull out, but I would recommend bringing some additional padding if you're planning to use the pull out.

Otherwise, everything was perfect and we had a wonderful time - we would definitely stay here again. It was exactly what we were looking for.

Wonderful memories of the Columbine Lake cabin

  • 5 of 5

This is our 3rd stay at the cabin and once again it was wonderful. Everything went smoothly upon arrival. The cabin was very clean and neat! My daughter and i so enjoyed sitting on the front porch and listening/viewing wildlife. During our stay, we saw fox, mule deer, and moose!!! The new roof extends all the way over the porch so even in the rain it's cozy and inviting. This cabin is in a great location for taking advantage of the awesome hiking trails on the west side of the park. It's proximity to Grand Lake is also a bonus. All in all a great place to relax and recharge. We will certainly return to this little piece of mountain paradise.
