Overview

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

The views from this custom designed cottage are some of the nicest you will find. We are situated just high enough to provide protection from the ocean, but close enough to hear the waves and surf at all times of the day. Being so close to the water, the feeling in the cottage is a lot like being on a large boat. THERE IS NO ROAD and NO POWER LINES between OUR COTTAGE AND THE OPEN OCEAN. You have an unrestricted and very private view of the open Atlantic and surrounding islands and harbors from our deck. This is hard to find, even in Maine. Nobody walking or driving on a road between you and the sea? Priceless! Complete privacy and isolation from neighbors too. Our cottage was redesigned and fully remodeled in 2011, including all new bathrooms, bedrooms and kitchen. There is also a new deck that is perfect for relaxing and taking in the sights and sounds of the ocean. The cottage features two queen sized beds, one on each floor, with access to a bathroom on each floor as well. There is also a queen sized sleeper couch on the main level. Boothbay Harbor, with all it's charm, galleries, shopping and restuarants, is less than 10 minutes away, and Ocean point is right down the road. Our cottage is situated on a little known oceanfront drive in between. This area is one of the best kept secrets around and offers views and ocean walks as nice as you will find, but with far fewer people. (see our map for location) Imagine yourself on our deck with a sliver of moonlight coming across the Atlantic and right to you!

Why Scott and Loraine chose East Boothbay

We moved to the Northeast from Minnesota a few years ago. After many trips to the coast searching for the perfect location, we settled on the Boothbay area because of its rugged beauty, great amenities, and superb central location along the coast. The town of Boothbay Harbor is just five minutes away with many fine restaurants and great shopping. Whale watches, harbor cruises and a great botanical garden are availble all summer long. Ocean point with it's wonderful views is just up the road. The best part of our location is that it is a bit of a local secret. We have dramatic views, lots of great walks, great places to kayak, and all off the beaten tourist path, yet with everything you need to make a complete Maine vacation close at hand.

What makes this cottage unique

One of the best parts of staying at our cottage are the great opportunities for wildlife viewing. Although we can't promise what you will see from our deck, we have observed all of the following in the last year alone; Minke whales, Finn whales, seals, eagles, ospreys, porpise, and every type of sea bird and duck imaginable! Perhaps the very best part of staying at our cottage is what it doesn't have, and that is a road between you and the sea, and lots of people. No roads or powerlines come between you and the ocean, and that means no cars, no people walking past, and no noise. Just you and the wide open Atlantic!

If Only 6 Stars Were an Option

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed in Scott and Loraine’s fabulous cottage, and there are simply not enough superlative words to describe our week. The views from the house, whether from the porch or windows are amazing … the ocean swirls unobstructed below, loons dive underwater, gulls and raptors swoop by, even Mallard ducks come to visit the yard. Lobster boats check their traps in the mornings, and you never know – one of those could be your dinner that night! Though there were many sunny days, we had the genuine fun of a Nor’easter while we were there, with requisite wind and choppy surf. It was pure fun to watch from behind the sliding glass doors, fireplace glowing, and glasses of wine in hand.

The bedrooms were comfortable, offering plenty of privacy for three adults, and like the rest of the cottage, the décor was beachy, bright, and tasteful. Scott’s artwork is amazing! The kitchen was well appointed, everything we needed to cook excellent meals. There are spices, oils, etc. so you only need to buy main ingredients for your shopping needs, which is easy to do with the Hannaford a few miles down the road. There is plenty to do in the nearby towns for shopping, touring, hiking, or dining – or not to do if you prefer to curl up with one of the many books, movies, or puzzles available to you in the cottage.

We are already planning for a return trip in the future at this perfect gem of a cottage!

Serene in winter

  • 5 of 5

The cottage is absolutely lovely in winter. You can get a general feel from the other reviews, so I thought I would add here what it is like to stay there in March. During a blizzard.

When we arrived, it was windy and the temperature was in the single digits. The Rinnai kept the cottage warm and cozy that day and through the next ten. We stocked up at the grocery 15 minutes away and settled in. The storm arrived a couple of days later - our phones suggested that the wind gusts were in excess of 40 mph and the snow fell everywhere from a light dusting to a horizontal whiteout. It was stunningly beautiful to watch and a perfect day to curl up with a good book. The driveway was plowed by the time we woke the next morning and we shoveled the small porch and steps.

We poked around the nearby towns which were pleasantly occupied (not the ghost towns you find in some resort areas in winter), yet certainly not crowded either. The most enticing attraction though was the view out the window.

Our goal for the vacation was to slow down and relax in our own little retreat. The cottage was perfect. The furniture invites sitting, the kitchen was fairly well stocked, and we watched a movie or two. Delightful!

Winter Wonderland

  • 5 of 5

Just got back from an amazing time in Boothbay. We stay at this cottage each winter for a week or two; it's our favorite time of year to come. There are plenty of shops and restaurants open but far fewer people than the summer. The other reviews will attest to this beautiful cottage and magnificent views but there is so.uch to do here even in winter. We visited the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens festival of lights for the first time..it was beautiful! If you are looking for the perfect Maine vacation this is it..book a week here if you can find an opening!

Charming BoothBay Harbor cottage right on the water

  • 5 of 5

We spent the final 2 weeks of October at this charming Boothbay Harbor cottage. The leaves were still gorgeous and the ocean views from the cottage were breathtaking. The cottage decor is perfect and has all the comforts of home. There is so much to see & do in the area. Although some restaurants close around Columbus Day there are still many wonderful ones to choose from.

A Beauty!

  • 5 of 5

We spent two weeks in this lovely house on the water, watching the lobster boats and the local wildlife...we even saw an otter on the rocks below.....and enjoyed every bit of it. The house is immaculate and has everything you would need to prepare meals, cook up the lobsters, and relax in front of the fireplace. We did tear ourselves away to look at some of the sites in this region but the majority of our time was spent in the house and on the deck. Drive down Rt 96 and look at the spectacular views down at Ocean Point....not to be missed! The local brewery, The Watershed restaurant, was a wonderful experience....great food...and six craft beer flights to boot! If you are wondering where to get a fish tile like the one in the mantle, you can find that and other gorgeous tiles at the Tile Connection, about 15 mins away. We bought quite a few art tiles there. The whole area is lovely to look at ...we took drives around both peninsulas while we were there and enjoyed the distinct beauty of this part of Maine. Loved it! The leaves were already turning brilliant colors so we were treated to that on our way out last week. All in all, a perfect vacation ! Look no further, you've found the place for next year! (if you can beat the competition for reservations)

One in a Million!!

  • 5 of 5

Our family stayed here in July of 2016. This cottage must have one of the finest views I have seen on the coast of Maine. Period. We had a list of tons of things to do and see in the area but I must confess that with the splendid weather we had we never ventured far from this amazing spot. Highlights were Harbor Cruise in Boothbay..kayaking out to White Island to see the seal pups..and great meals at the Thistle Inn not to mention local lobsters from the docks that we cooked at the cottage! I hesitate to even review this cottage as it is already so hard to get a week but the owners have really created a p effect vacation spot here!
