This cabin is probably not for everyone as it is truly a cabin, and all that that implies is true - it's not fully modernized and luxurious. But for those who appreciate that old-world charm, this is a lovely, comfortable place, set on a beautiful piece of property, with a kind and attentive owner. It is very clean with charming accents and decor, it has a great fireplace with firewood included for those chilly nights. A kitchen with nice pans and good sharp knives, and an outdoor gas grill is available so you can make your meals there (grocery store is 5 mins away) and you will want to, because you don't want to leave. Watch the herons fishing and the lobster boats lobstering and sailboats sailing from the porch. I didn't want to leave.
Privacy, Beauty, touch of the past
The cabin was what we expected. Great location, 5 minutes to Boothbay, 25 minutes to Damariscotta, 10 minutes to Southport, hour 15 minutes from Portland. On the water. Started each morning with our coffee and breakfast on the deck or stone patio. And when there in early evening, we were back out there again. Cabin is charming. Lots of detail. Fun. definitely a place to unwind. There is a tv, but don't plan on watching much. I think we had 1 channel. We did have WIFI. Everything you need in the kitchen. This was our first time to Maine and we loved it. Cabin added to the experience. I don't want to end with a negative, and might not be a negative for some, but the cabin does need a good detail dusting and cleaning. A lot of cob webs, saw dust in corners, dust heavy on log sides of cabin inside, shelves dusty, toothpaste splatters on wall in bathroom. Also, a list or instruction sheet for the inside would be helpful. This is more of a note for owner. The overall cabin was (surface) clean, and it was a wonderful experience and a great place and would recommend for a couple.......romantic, fun, a little quirky............would love to go back. Have stayed in seven VBRO places now and have always relied on the reviews and they have been spot on. Also, Peter was great to work with. We booked on very short notice and he got back to us immediately. Would be good for small family too.
Serenity and Peace Abound!
My daughter, granddaughter and I had a wonderful stay at this log cabin. It was absolutely immaculate and had every item one could think of to make our stay enjoyable. Although the pictures are accurate, they do not fully show the charm of this artistically decorated vacation home. Although we did some activities in the area our favorite was sitting on the front porch soaking in the peace while watching two families of ducks, seagulls, swiftly diving terns. a kingfisher and a variety of boats on the Damariscotta.
Peter was a gracious host, letting us know about the history of the cabin and answering any questions that we had.
As we drove away to come home we asked ourselves if there were any possible negative things about our stay and the only one we could think of was that it was so hard to leave!
Loved everything about this gem!
I won't be able to say it enough, but this place is just the best! It's five minutes away from everything fun about Boothbay Harbor, but every bit as private and quiet, a pristine property, actually, as you could ever hope for. And gorgeous property and adorable cabin aside, the owner is one of the nicest people we have met in a long time. He is warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the area and its strengths and weaknesses! We saw deer, seals, an eagle, an osprey, heron and two dolphins or porpoises... we don't know which. We felt relaxed and at home there. I truly cannot wait to visit again.
Having spent all of my childhood summers in Boothbay Harbor, Maine in a rustic log cabin also built in the 1920s, my idea of the PERFECT Maine visit was absolutely exceeded and changed forever! My wife and I fell head over heels for this romantically situated rustic and charming oasis. The owner, Peter, is a new wonderful friend and we're already planning our return next year. If you are a wood burning fireplace aficionado like me, you are in for a treat! Every amenity is provided, individual heat radiators in the bedrooms and bathroom, FIRE WOOD, a fully stocked large kitchen and the outside front porch view that will mesmerize you to complete serenity. There's even a gorgeous sitting area a few yards from the cabin with Adirondack style seating and a fire pit to enjoy beautiful sunsets over the bay. There is so much to explore in the area, but we found ourselves more and more wanting to just stay in and savor every moment of this beautiful property. I've revisited the Boothbay region dozens of times over the last 20 years, and even rented near my old cabin from my childhood. This experience was, hands down, my absolute favorite Maine vacation in my life thus far. Put this beautiful cabin visit on your bucket list!
We can't wait to return.
My husband and I spent our honeymoon here last September. It was amazing. The house was beautiful and just like the pictures. We had access right by the cabin to go kayaking. Pete, the owner, was the best. He gave us the full history of the home and was a wealth of information. He is also an excellent musician. We plan on coming back soon to stay in this lovely cabin again....
