About The Owner

We have kids and love outdoor activities! Placid is the perfect place for us. We started running a few years ago and ran our first half marathon in Lake Placid last year. It was incredible!! The views were beautiful and the climb up the last hill to the Olympic oval for the final lap was well worth it.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose Lake Placid

Lake Placid is a great place to vacation any time of year. Excellent winter sports and a great Olympic spirit, fun summer activities and great hiking all year round. Downtown Lake Placid has great shops, good restaurants, a movie theatre, night time ice skating, or a beach on Mirror Lake for swimming in the summer, fun bars and dancing. There are plenty of activities for kids and adults, you never run out of things to do!

What makes this house unique

Our house is on Mill Pond. You can walk into town or you can canoe or kayak to several nearby restaurant / bars. The kids can walk to the movie theatre in town, or a bowling alley close to the house. The pond is beautiful and peaceful. Lots of waterfowl, feed the ducks from the dock, do a little fishing with the kids or go out on the canoe or kayaks. The town has a beach on Mirror Lake and this is walking distance as well. In the winter go snowshoeing, skiing, sledding all nearby.

We rented this home for a week in late June/early July and really enjoyed our stay. It was our first time in Lake Placid and the Adirondacks in general and the house proved to be a great base for exploring both the town and the area. Our three boys made frequent use of the provided kayaks and canoe out back and caught several fish within a couple of hundred feet of the dock. The house would comfortably fit a family of up to six people. Everything in the house was as described and in good, working order. We would rent here again. The only thing that would have been better is if we could have brought our dog (no pets allowed).

Very enjoyable

Beautiful property. Great owners. In fact, the owners hospitality pushed my experience to 5 stars. Only problem we had was that the downstairs bathroom latch didn't line up so you couldn't lock it and the upstairs tub leaked to the 1st floor. The owner however said he has been trying to get those resolved.

My only criticism would be that they need a bigger tv, but not a deal buster. It was a beautiful property with very friendly owners who are responsive and accommodating.

Owner's Response: So glad you had a great visit. We have indeed had a plumber in a few times about the bathtub overflow drain leaking. We will have another go at it! Appreciate the feedback.

Quick and convenient

  • 5 of 5

My family and I had a great stay at the Mill Pond. It was a nice getaway for us over Thanksgiving. Location was great, close enough to wander around downtown and still get to some exciting hiking in the High Peaks. The house was accurately described and portrayed on the website - so there were no surprises. Appreciated the over-sized living room - there was room for everyone to spread out and relax. Really appreciated having two bathrooms available. The bedrooms were certainly adequate in size for us. It was nice to have the heat on when we arrived - big thumbs up from my wife. The parking area was adequate for our large pickup trucks, too!

Suggestions: we could have used some washclothes - only found one; bathrooms could have used small stands to set our toiletries on; a couple more towel bars or hooks would have been helpful in the bathrooms (especially with young kids).

All in all, it is a very nice house. And the consensus is that we would like to come again next year at the same time! Thank you, Terry and Bridgit!

Wonderful time, everything you could want, very peaceful

  • 5 of 5

Everything you could want in a vacation home with a very good location. Our family had a wonderful time in this home. Everything you need is here. There were plenty of paddle boards, kayaks and boats to keep everyone in our family happy as well as many outdoor games, a fire pit, and beautiful scenery. We have 4 kids and they were all entertained for the entire stay. Walking to town was about a half mile walk and you are in a great location.

The house was very clean and the kitchen was very well stocked with pans, waffle maker, fondue pot, etc... I would highly recommend this property if you are thinking of staying in Lake Placid.

Great place to bring the kids. We used the paddle boards and kayaks everyday and loved being within walking distance to downtown Lake Placid. The house was lovely and had everything we needed. We would definitely come back!

15 minute drive to Whiteface, 10 minute walk to Olympic center in town, outdoor iceskating in Olympic oval, kids can walk to the bowling alley or the movie theatre in town, there's also a great tobaggan shoot onto Mirror Lake, or you can bobsled at Olympic training center, walk to the beach on Mirror Lake in the summer or enjoy hiking, rock or ice climbing. Lake Placid is a great area for outdoor sports and nature lovers!
