About the property

Mobile Home, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps -5)

Pirate Lover is a very comfortable, affordable place for a family of two-four to spend a nice vacation. It has two bedrooms: one has a queen size bed and the other has a twin bed. In the living room you will find a sofa bed that can sleep two more family members. We rent to couples and families only and we do not allow any pets. From Pirate Lover to the ocean is a four minute drive. Between the house and the beach you will pass a small mall, restaurants, grocery stores and ice cream parlors. Pirate Lover has a yard that is perfect for small children. There is a swing, a picnic table and also a nice street for bike riding. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, full size stove and all the pots, bowls and dishes to make your stay a perfect one. Pizza can be delivered to your front door from two different locations. At the end of the street you can see boats go by on the waterway. The house is neat and well kept. We have just put a new mattress topper on the queen bed and new pillow and mattress protectors. Pirate Lover is perfect for small families who enjoy the beach but also love having some quiet time away from it all. Pirate Lover has central air to keep you cool after a hot day out in the sun.

Pirate Lover is close to the beach and the waterway. You are also only a few minutes from Calabash, a planetarium, the USS NC Battleship, shops of Wilmington, and so much more.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thanks for allowing us to use your mobile home for our trip to the beach. We enjoyed Pirate Lover very much and hope to be back real soon. The street was very quiet, just what we needed. We live in town and loved the peace and quiet. Thanks for the use of your home. We hope to bring the kids next time. The house is perfect for a couple or a small family. Enjoyed Calabash and the USS Battleship. We also went to the Planetarian. So much to do in the area. Again, thanks.

Notes:
Pirate Lover has been renting now for years, it is very comfortable and away from the main drag. There's a yard for small children to enjoy, and a quiet street for riding bikes. You can hear the ocean at night and see the waterway just down the street. There's a swing in the yard for your relaxation. You will also enjoy the small porch for sitting late in the evening. The street is a paved cul-de-sac with very little traffic. The yard offers a quiet, comfortable place to sit evenings.

Great vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for an nice, yet affordable, place to say after the place we had been using for years was sold. We found it with this property.

We arrived on Sunday afternoon, and found the place to be all it was advertised as being. It is an older trailer, but has been well kept. The condition of inside, and outside show that the owners truly care about the place. My wife's parents had a similar place that we used to use, and stepping into this place gave us the same sense of home we always got when staying there, which is nice.

The beds, couch, and the futon, are all comfortable for sitting, or sleeping....I took full advantage of them all...LOL Entertainment wise, there were books, video games for the kids, a stack of DVD's (and a player). The TV only has a handful of channels, but if you enjoy watching older movies and TV shows, crime shows, westerns, etc, like I do, you won't need any of the other stuff.

There are plenty of towels and wash cloths supplied, along with sheets for the larger bed. There is also a washer and dryer you can use to do laundry if needed. All you'll need is a little washing powder.

There are also plenty of cups, plates, etc in the kitchen along with the necessary utensils. The only things you really need are a little dish detergent to clean up.

There was a charcoal grill sitting outside the house that looked to be relatively new for anyone wanting to grill out. There is also a front porch with chairs to relax in the evening and a swing around to one side should you want to use it.

The street was extremely quite. I don't think I saw a handful of people outside all week. Even so, the property is only short distance from a Dollar General, and about a mile to a Food Lion. There are also several pizza places, and restaurants within just a couple of miles.

I could go on, but in the end it all comes back to what I said earlier.....it felt like home to us, and we'd have no problem staying again in the future.

Quiet place to be

  • 3 of 5

Location was good. Very quiet area but close enough to things to do and see. Had black mold around the tub - bleached it out. Good place for a couple with a young child or just the couple. Not too many tv channels; good ability to get on internet. Very comfortable bed. Left two weeks early because we found long term rental in South Carolina. Hope we get reimbursed for those two weeks.

Owner's Response: Yes, Pirate Lover is in a good location and sits on a very quiet street. As for the black around the tub- that is not mold; it is an adhesive the repairman put around the tub last year to protect the caulking that was used. We keep the house clean ourselves, and hire out renovations- we take great pride in keeping a neat and welcoming home. As for the tv, it is as listed on our site. It has 7-9 local channels, and also there is a streamer device there that allows you to watch movies and regular shows and documentaries. We also have 40 DVDS in the living room as well as another dozen in the two bedrooms. This information is expressed on our site as a means of saving the guests money on the rental. The internet is very good and bedding is very comfortable for a family of four to five as stated on our site. The contract also states that we rent to adults- in other words, there should be a responsible adult party there at all times. I think this renter might have been upset because we objected to there leaving a minor- a teenager- there for over a week on his own, which violated the contract. Of course, we welcome children, but we expect an adult to be on the premises to help keep everything safe and orderly- it is a quiet neighborhood, and we want to ensure there aren't any parties, or accidents. It is stated plainly in the contract that we do not allow minors there without adult supervision. As for checking out early- the guests contacted us, pretty desperate to find a long term rental. We gave them an excellent, long term rate. We are glad the guests found something closer to where they are building their new home. They made the choice to leave- they obviously needed a place for a long term, and I'm glad they found one that was close to the house they were building. When they left, we attempted to re-rent but found no last minute renters. The house was left very dirty-took a better part of a day to clean it. We did reimburse the total security deposit and believe we went way beyond what would be expected of any landlord. Leaving an underage person there without an agreement between the two parties for over a week and checking out two weeks early are really stepping out of the contract. I think they had some hard feelings about us not agreeing to leave their under-age child in charge of the house- but as their review states, there wasn't anything about the house that was disagreeable. Hope it works out well for them in their new location.

A Much Needed Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My Husband has had alot of health problems in the last 2 years. We are raising our 8 year old Grandson and we all needed a change in what had been going on for the last 2 years. We have been to Holden a few times in the past but it was never as peaceful as Pirate Lovers. It was a true home away from home for us. It was so quiet even with all the homes so close to one another. The only noise we heard was the trash truck on Monday. The home was furnished with all we needed and we were blessed to find it. Looking forward to our next vacation at Pirate Lovers.

This is a good place to stay for a weekend at the beach. My wife and I enjoyed our time there.

  • 4 of 5

This is a cozy, couple friendly location within minutes of a family oriented beach. It is close to Myrtle Beach and Wilmington which enhances choosing this location to stay. We enjoyed being away from the crowds but close enough to get to whatever entertainment we choose. I would recommend this location to anyone wanting to get away for a few days. The owners checked in with us after we arrived and again on the day we left. They wanted to ensure that we had a great stay.

Decent for the price

  • 4 of 5

I was a little nervous because this was my first time using VRBO and also my first time renting a trailer. I took a chance because of the lower price and because there were quite a few positive reviews. I was most nervous about the review that mentioned roaches. I did not see any. What I did see was palmetto bugs. These are not the same thing at all and although they are large and unpleasant to look at, you won't take them home with you. They live in the south and are very common, but that's about it. As for the trailer, it is older, but seemed well kept. Everything worked including air, internet worked fine which was another concern because I work online at times. Neighborhood was quiet and safe. Very close to the beach, which is actually very nice for a less touristy place. We took a day to Myrtle and a day to Wrightsville beach. Both are geared towards tourists and both were within reasonable driving distances (about an hour to Myrtle). I like the tourism, but want some down time too. This was perfect. Note that you will need to take your own sheets, but everything else was provided. All in all, it was decent. If you want the Ritz, pay top dollar and go to a condo. If you want an affordable, but comfortable vacation, this is the way to go. For the price, I would definitely stay again rather than pay top dollar. And my security refund was processed in a timely manner without me having to ask for it.

Owner's Response: Hello: I must say that we strive for better than "decent for the price." We aim to meet and exceed everyone's expectations, and we have a number of repeat renters every year, who see our cottage near the beach as a second home. It's pretty customary to not include linens with beach rentals these days- you can rent them from different companies at the beach, but only for a pretty high cost. As you noted, just about anything you could ask for is right there at Pirate Lover- fast, reliable internet service, three tvs, Netflix, dvds, video games and books; there's a full kitchen with all you need to cook, plus a dishwasher. The central a/c works well, and is serviced regularly. There are over 800 square feet inside for your family, plus a nice front deck, and completely fenced in yard. We have a pest control service, and while it is possible to see a palmetto bug in the summer, keeping the doors closed will usually keep the critters outside. We are ready to answer questions and stay in contact with guests while they're at the house. Yes, you can spend thousands per week and stay on the beach, but I think any family of four or smaller who wants an affordable vacation at Holden Beach will be very happy with everything Pirate Lover has to offer.

Map

Pirate Lover is located in a very nice, quiet neighborhood. It is a great place for your evening walks. Within minutes you can go pick up take out foods or pick up groceries from one of your local grocery stores. Calabash Seafood Restaurants are only a short drive away. Waterslides are located between you and the beach. Wilmington would be a great day trip. They have a moon light cruise with or without a meal. And of course Myrtle Beach which is to the south of you would be a good place to spend a day and then come back to some peace and quiet.
