The 'Library' apartment is light, clean and filled with books. It opens onto a patio and garden area and overlooks an acre filled with large oak trees. It is adjacent to the Artist's 'Treehouse' Apartment #290731 and lends itself as the place for the kids or another couple vacationing together BUT– in their own place!
WHAT'S NEW IN THE LIBRARY: new love seat sofa and duette blind in living room and 2 new duette privacy/blackout blinds in the bedroom along with the sunshades that give shaded but full view onto the garden.
Keywords: Clean, sunny, garden view, covered parking.
I am a full time artist making illuminated shell sculpture and lampshades from natural seashells. Since 1974! I still find them absolutely beautiful. Then there's the gardens– when I need a 15 minute work break I snip and pluck, rake and squirt. As much as I love to squirt water– I shouldn't be living in California!!
Desiree purchased this apartment in 1982
It suits me completely! When I first saw this house, as a private sale 35 yrs ago, I couldn't speak. It had just the kind of 'bones' I wanted in a house plus a killer view. Stunned disbelief. And bought it immediately.
–MONTEREY BAY AQUARIUM is the #1 attraction in Monterey County.
–WINE TASTING is big here because we have such an excellent wine growing appellation– ask me about the 20+ Tasting Rooms within a mile.
–WILD TURKEYS and deer heavily populate the area and are wonderful to observe.
–FIND AN INTERESTING BOOK and read it while you're here. Ask me for recommendations and tell me where your interests lie. But leave the books where you found them when you depart.
Hope this finds you well. I stayed in your Library apartment last October with my husband Fred. We were only with you about 3 nites, but we had a great stay and I know we told you so before we left. However, since back in NJ, I have often thought about what a beautiful, magical place you live in and would be remiss not to tell you how the experience of meeting you and seeing how you live impacted me in a very positive way. NJ--if you've never been, is quite different.
Not sure when we'll get the chance to get back to Carmel Valley, as you well know there's a lot of world to see (we leave for Spain next week). In any event, I just wanted to tell you how fantastic it was to meet you and learn a little bit about your life--as well as poke thru a few of your books!

I had a wonderful stay at the Artist's Library while visiting friends in Carmel Valley. The setting was lovely and peaceful, and the grounds, with live oaks and a spaciousness that came with being a little gated compound on a quiet street. Desiree was so affable and charming, and it is so easy to fall into conversation with her. She really wants her guests to have a great experience, yet affords privacy as well as hospitality. My Carmel Valley friends were happy that she treated us to some homemade rosemary shortbread, too. I'd happily come back for another stay!
Our visit was short but sweet. Desiree was always available by phone and very responsive. The Library was clean and well-stocked with books and teas. I wish we could have stayed longer!
The Library was everything my wife and I needed for our stay in Carmel. Desiree was very accommodating and helpful and the apartment was cozy and quiet and had everything we needed. The tickets to the aquarium were a wonderful bonus. Highly recommend - Thanks Desiree!
Our stay in the artist"s library was wonderful experience. The living space in the library/garden apartment was great, cute place with a great atmosphere. The host, Desiree, was very sweet and extremely helpful. The grounds were the apartment is located were well kept and nicely decorated. The location was easily to find during the day but difficult at night when it was dark. Would love to stay at this location again, thank you Desiree!
$360 for two nights in a rural studio with no bathroom door, no kitchen sink, and a noisy heater? Never in all my years of travel. This was the only vacancy within 30 miles. Nice hilltop location and a thorough welcome binder but the stay left much to be desired for the price tag.
A wonderful place, cozy and comfortable, and all these interesting tidbits to discover inside the place. Desiree was so welcoming and had great suggestions on restaurants and other local venues.
20+ Wine Tasting Rooms within 2 miles. Neighborhood open space/park 8 minutes walk. Multiple restaurants 5 minutes drive.
